It's about getting the balance right. All season we've been saying how we're too attacking, far too vulnerable to the counter attack, and how we need to be less naive, more streetwise, more defensive, and look to grind games out.

But today we went way too far the other way. Second half we were sitting so deep, just inviting pressure on. After a crazy minute or two just after HT where we kept pissing about with it in our own box we just looked paralysed by nerves, and no one could pass the ball 5 yards. It was truly bizarre.

After a first half performance where we were so comfortable, dominating physically, winning every 50/50. Winning it in midfield and tearing through on the break; it was like how playing ourselves must've been for Birmingham, Burnley, Reading. Should have been 2 or 3 up, Freeman missed an absolute sitter.

But it's very worrying just how low in confidence we looked in defending the lead. And that will be even worse now with 2 weeks to reflect on what feels like a loss. Frustrating, if we'd just held out a minute longer, whilst it would still have been poor, it would have given us a much needed boost. As it is: no clean sheet, no home win - it's hard to see us breaking those ducks any time soon.

Finally, have to agree both sides look to have regressed big time. Was thinking at half time how MK were a shadow of the side we faced in League 1, and though they improved after the break, they were really lacking that quality in the final third that would've seen most teams beat us comfortably today.

Thought we would have learnt our lesson when we sacked Johnson.

Absolutely no way do we sack the bloke who gave us our most successful season ever ten games later.

Tbf Johnson had to go after the full on punch up in the dressing room after the Plymouth game, but totally agree with the sentiment.

At the very very least he's earned the right to have plenty of time to get a reaction and turn things round

No offence TTOCS but didn't Cotts get rid of your love child, JET and keep your 'devil incarnate' Freeman in the team?
Personally, I am coming to the conclusion that, maybe, Cotts might be out of his depth at this standard? He deffo deserves a chance to sort it but how long does he deserve?

The bigger picture is obviously more important than JET v Freeman.

Cotterill would be my manager until he has failed a League One promotion attempt. Change did us no good in this League before.

Why are we even talking about this after 10 games?

I think Cotts is a victim of his own success. If we had finished in the playoffs last season and ultimately failed, it would have been perceived as a decent season and we would have pushed for promotion again. As Cotts brought us up last season he has to be judged as a Championship manager. At the moment he appears to be failing but deserves time. Just because he appears to be out of his depth at the moment doesn't mean we should get rid but it is very concerning.

Anyone know what Cotterill said to the ref at half time?

Robbo went out of his way to praise him after what he said to the ref re>Lewington. About 1:30 in:

Only a guess, but probably either the high boot which caught a player in the face or the elbow which did the same. More likely the boot I reckon, seeing as how Freeman did near enough the same in our first game but got sent off, no intention to hurt the other player but when you see other referees setting standards it does show sometimes how it's pot luck on which referee you get on the day.

Did you see Garners red card last week? Went to control a high ball with his foot, never once took his eye off the ball and caught the Wolves player around the face. Kettle had the red card out before they even hit the ground, the c***.

I would agree with Hodge and was expecting to see a red card if I'm being honest.

I've seen the highlights now and am guessing the incident over Lewington was the one he got booked for. Little (who has some previous with us for diving- Posh playoff) did his trick of knocking the ball past and carrying on into Lewie, Many refs get mugged by it and bring out the card, even though the defender has no chance of getting out the way and an increasing number of players are doing it deliberately.

Lewington knew full well what he was doing there. Cynical block.

Thank you. A pet hate of mine, but I'll admit we've have a couple who've done it too over the years. The post above shows that many fans can't tell the difference, as it's often too subtle, but when you put the ball one way and carry on the opposite way, then refs should recognise it for what it is.

Was it just me or was there a lot of the cynical stuff going on yesterday? There seemed to be a lot of blocking players runs from both sides and I can't say I noticed it previously.

Yeah a lot goes on because players know more often than not they'll get away with it.

I would suggest with both sides not getting results and in need of points, with the managers getting more and more vociferous (read desperate) about getting a win, the players will start trying every trick they can to get an advantage.

Neither team needed to resort to that last season as we both were doing well but this season? :dk:
