It's about getting the balance right. All season we've been saying how we're too attacking, far too vulnerable to the counter attack, and how we need to be less naive, more streetwise, more defensive, and look to grind games out.
But today we went way too far the other way. Second half we were sitting so deep, just inviting pressure on. After a crazy minute or two just after HT where we kept pissing about with it in our own box we just looked paralysed by nerves, and no one could pass the ball 5 yards. It was truly bizarre.
After a first half performance where we were so comfortable, dominating physically, winning every 50/50. Winning it in midfield and tearing through on the break; it was like how playing ourselves must've been for Birmingham, Burnley, Reading. Should have been 2 or 3 up, Freeman missed an absolute sitter.
But it's very worrying just how low in confidence we looked in defending the lead. And that will be even worse now with 2 weeks to reflect on what feels like a loss. Frustrating, if we'd just held out a minute longer, whilst it would still have been poor, it would have given us a much needed boost. As it is: no clean sheet, no home win - it's hard to see us breaking those ducks any time soon.
Finally, have to agree both sides look to have regressed big time. Was thinking at half time how MK were a shadow of the side we faced in League 1, and though they improved after the break, they were really lacking that quality in the final third that would've seen most teams beat us comfortably today.
