Do you love lists? Do you hate Hull? Then this is the place for you.

The chat in the Scotland v England thread got me thinking that we need a list thread so we all have our say on which British cities we love and which we hate and define the ultimate British city.

Shall we say send me a list of your top 5 from the 69* (snigger) British cities and also a nomination for the worst?

Scoring would be as follows:

Best:
1. 10
2. 7
3. 4
4. 2
5. 1

Worst:
1. -5

I shall give you two weeks to get the lists in (27th March) and then the countdown will begin. Deadline now midnight on 11th March. Please add some comments (wit optional) with your nominations on why you love or hate that city.

Over to you.

Edit: Britain in this instance is Great Britain and Northern Ireland i.e. the UK but BBC sound better than UBC.

Edit Edit: Although there are 69 registered Cities, we'll narrow it down to 68 by combining the City of London and Westminster as one city, London.

Bristol City
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...d-britain-s-best-city-to-live-in-9210931.html

Bristol voted the best City to live for two years consecutively.

'Bristol has been named as the best city in the UK to live in, thanks to its “great shopping, great scenery and great social scene”.'

I think that's a load of shit personally mind. It's a good city no doubt about it but it's far from the best place to live. Transport is a nightmare, we have an awful level of homelessness and rents are getting out of control which will only see that problem increase. I dispute that we have great shopping as well compared to other cities in the UK and abroad.

The llama raises a good point, for the purposes of this, London will be defined as London and Westminster and not two separate cities.

Taking London out of the equation as it is easily the best place, I like Harrogate, good bars, clubs and restaurants, the ladies are mighty fine as well ;)

For great access to spectacular wildlife, countryside, decent beer and acceptable proper local football - with some obvious compromises. I guess other generations/backgrounds would give most folk a different requirement from a city than ease of getting out of it. The welsh weather.....and the welsh..... are what ruled St Davids and St Asaph out.
  1. Ely
  2. Lancaster
  3. Durham
  4. Norwich
  5. Inverness

The pits is Peterborough

You've lived a sheltered life if the clubs in Harrogate are where you want to be!

I'll submit a list but to be fair I haven't been to loads and loads (especially down South) so it's not going to be conclusive...

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
Bristols a nice place TBH. My sister lives there and it's great, IMHO.

You should be honoured to be near such a free thinking, forward city such as Peterborough.

I've had a fantastic response to this already and have around 20 lists. I may bring the deadline forward a bit and strike whilst the iron's hot. You'll have until Friday at least but get those lists in.

Thanks all so far.

The Welsh side of my family come from St. David's. Real city slickers they are. Went to school there back in the 80's for a few months. They were still teaching pre-decimalised currency and the whole playground would stop when a plane would fly overhead. Beautiful place though. Loved my times there. Hashtag nostalgia.

You don't happen to work for Free Thinking Design "...... a small team of passionate designers and developers who strive to offer a personal and responsive service for all your clients," in a city at the cutting edge of design?

I know i'm biased but Wells is a lovely City and is the smallest City in England plus Hot Fuzz was made here  My only gripe is beer prices as pubs in the centre rip off unsuspecting tourists.

The only good thing about Wells is the by-pass around it!

Seriously though, picturesque maybe but that's all it's got going for it. Gone downhill ever since they closed the swimming pool and built a Tescos on top of it. Even worse now they've opened a 'Spoons.
