In the pub. Everyone is stunned at that lineup.

Brough, McQueen, Balanta, and Thompson all start. Don't like the look of the team, but hopefully they prove me wrong. Jabo starts on the bench.
trust in Curle, there are a lot of players back in there who have been injured or out of favour but that's a strong looking bench, I'm sure he has something in mind. I can only assume Hope and Kennedy have picked up a knock though. Mysterious Curle indeed

bear in mind Thompson is maybe playing in his natural position for maybe the first time this season.

We thinking

Miller____Atkinson_____Ellis_____McQueen
_______Balanta____Dicker____Sweeney_____
Thompson______Asamoah_________Brough

(or at least that's one way you could use those players, there are many alternatives)

my problem with the side is that if they play well Balanta, Mcqueen, Brough, Thompson can be ok replacements and you won't notice the weaker side.

but if they have bad games......Boy do they play sh*t.

got to have 3 of them 4 playing good today, these ain't players who if playing poorly can still drag something out of their game to contribute, if those play poorly we've only 7 men on pitch.

but with the way Curle swaps his team he should tell them play well and back in they may go.

0-0 at halftime, I'll take that. Rovers sound the better team, though not created many chances since the opening 10 minutes.

We've got some great attacking options on the bench, wouldn't be surprised if Jabo and Hery are brought on soon.

we sound awful.

only hope is as this game goes on pressure may force Rovers into a mistake.

i think listening to this first half if Rovers do take lead this side will not get back into game like our usual team can.

but we do have jabo to bring on which is massive boost.

FFS, Curle's got some explaining to do here unless there's been an illness going around half the squad, starting lineup isn't good enough at all compared to what it could've been. Need some Jabo magic now but not sure we've given him enough time to rescue us.

no real complaints we've been completely outplayed.

just a terrible terrible team selection which hasn't at all worked.

to be fair it would be injustice if Rovers didn't win game and we do not deserve a goal today at all.

at least this game has told us afew of our back up players need got rid of.

Brough, Thompson, Rigg, Dicker.

Need to be gotten rid of, spend some cash please Curle because getting these sort of players in for free clearly is not going to get us anywhere.

I fucking knew we'd get beat today, we always have a shit scrappy game at Bristol Rovers.

I'm in complete shock - we're winning at home! This was going to go 1 of 2 ways for me, get hammered or win comfortably with the team and managers performance almost 'apologizing' for the recent crap, especially Chesham.

Still though, sounds like a deserved, comfortable win - hopefully this can push us on to improve our home form.

What a difference a game makes though, lose to Chesham and Southend, beat Carlisle and suddenly we're joint in the play offs with a game in hand, 5 points from 3rd with a game in hand. Funny game, football.

I really am pissed off that we still play the likes of Brough and Thompson.

Disappointed. Some of these fringe players aren't good enough - Thompson and Brough especially. Bit of a shame as he looked bright last season, missed Grainger today.
Kennedy, Gilliead, Raynes, Joyce were all big misses too, though they should all return next week.
Need to beat Pompey next week, will be a big game.

Well.... Worst performance I've seen this season. Reminded me of last season, lacklustre, clueless and never looked like scoring. In pissing windy rain!

First half was mediocre, we defended ok but sat far too deep.
Bristol Rovers looked a team whose confidence was shot, they were clueless in attack and looked terrified to fuck up, they were there for the taking.

Second half.... Absolutely atrocious. The worst half of the season, for once we never looked like scoring, the final ball was always terrible, couldn't string 3 passes together and defended terribly.

We've given a team clearly lacking confidence a real gift wrapped morale boosting win. It should set them up to go on a good run as once they were ahead they looked like a different team, but why do we always have to be the team that gives teams the break they need?

Yes it was a severely weakened team, but that performance level was still unacceptable.

Rovers simply had to finally win a home match so if I were a Carlisle fan I wouldn't read too much into the result. Their cup exit to Chesham made it harder for Carlisle to get something imo.

I'll be furious if Curle comes out and defends some of our players after that shite.

It's more the performance than result that was concerning.

If we'd performed like that and got a 0-0 I'd be saying the same.

Today wasn't a game for pretty football it was all about playing the ugly side of the game and we didn't do that with the players who started.

Grainger injured
Hope injured
Kennedy ill
Raynes suspended
Joyce suspended
Gilliead international duty

So Raynes Gilliead and Kennedy will probably be back next week along with Jabo in the starting 11. Grainger and Hope...hopefully not too serious.

Sounds like an excuse but I think we've got to sort of let Curle off on this one. Not to say that the fringe players aren't good enough but he wouldn't have had to play them today had we not had 5 or 6 players unable to play for one reason or another. If we'd had said players available then we could have left the fringe players on the bench and then players like Thompson and Balanta could have just been released in January without any more poor performances. We should be back to it against Portsmouth, we'll have Kennedy, Gilliead, Grainger, Joyce, Raynes, Hope and a fully ready Ibehre back in contention so we can leave the crap fringe players out from now on until the transfer window.

Given that we were without Danny Leadbitter and Tom Lockyer I thought we may be weaker at the back, but just like on Wednesday at Southend we were largely very solid. It was great that Montano was finally given a start after his impressive cameo at Roots Hall and I thought he played well, as did Lines who needed a good game to justify being selected ahead of Mansell for a second game in succession.

We probably should have taken the lead in the first 10 minutes as we created numerous opportunities but, as has so often been the case at home, failed to take them. I thought we may end up rueing it as the game wore on, so it was great to see that despite having played less than 72 hours earlier, we got better against a Carlisle side who didn't have a midweek game. The opening goal was a wonderful counter attack that fully deserved Matty Taylor arriving at the back post to smash home, and the second was all Taylor too. I don't know if Gillespie wasn't expecting the shot as he seemed to let what wasn't exactly a ferocious shot sneak in at his near post. We certainly aren't complaining because it calmed us down massively and sealed the 3 points, but I wasn't expecting that particular effort to end up in the back of the net.

Delighted overall, as it was a thoroughly deserved victory. It feels good to leave a home game with a win and to see us just outside the play-offs on goal difference with a game in hand is hugely encouraging. Hopefully we have now turned the corner at The Mem and can keep shooting up the league. Fair play to the Carlisle fans who made the trip - the weather was miserable but there was still a very respectable number of you here.

Does the widely talked about consortium even have any creditable source? Genuinley curious. I'd be surprised if it was true.
