Draw to be done on Thursday alongside the league fixtures being released. We’re in the north section. Obvious preference for us would be to draw out number 32 (away especially) but no doubt we’ll end up with Bradford as us and them have to play each other every fucking year without exception.

Any preferences for anyone on who you get or rather be out as soon as possible?

Crewe would be ok I suppose, that said Stoke wouldn't be as unwinnable now there's only a league between us!

We will get Sunderland... we seem to be magnetically attached to them in cup draws (used to be Sheff U!)

Someone we can beat, in the hope of a big team in the second round is all I ask for...

Our game against Brentford, even though we lost it (having been ahead for ages), was in many ways one of the highlights of the first half of our season last year. It's also a good opportunity to let bigger teams see our capabilities and hopefully present ourselves as a good place for loanees to come to.

Agree totally, although I enjoyed the home victory against Bristol City the game at Brentford was brilliant...would probably have been my first choice draw as it was a new ground to tick off, and easy one to get to...although I still can't fathom why they close the nearest tube station for an hour after the final whistle, made the trip back to Paddington a bit more challenging than it needed to be.

I would be happy for us to get someone like Wolves away if we make it to the second round, seeing as our club won't let us see the friendly game between the two teams.

Norwich away would be good. Would prefer it in the FA cup but would settle for it in the league cup if need be.

If it’s not seeded (can’t remember whether it usually is or isn’t), I wouldn’t mind a cup derby home or away. Be interested if we drew them in the cup whether the police would let us have 4,000 tickets like most teams get there in the cup.

According to our forum, it isn't seeded.

Rotherham at home, winnable but dull.

Pretty mundane fixture but then is there really anything for us other than Stoke that would be particularly exciting at this stage? Home draw I guess at least.

Cobblers (A) - highly meh draw (for both clubs, I'm sure), I don't think there's even the novelty value of either club having any of the others' old boys any more (now Akinfenwa's left us, and Harriman's left them).

I expect us to play a second string side though, so it's a good chance for NTFC if they are taking this seriously.

I wouldn't have minded an away trip to Sutton which is easy for me to get to, but oh well.

Ours vs Swansea at home is decent enough. We have a chance but should be a decent game to watch anyway. About as good as it could get with getting a Championship side. Certainly, it is a bonus we didn't get somebody from our own division or who we've played regularly in recent seasons.

Away at Doncaster for us, at least it's a local midweek trip.

I'd watch that match rather than ours due to the snake being in charge there and I'd be cheering for Oxford :gr:

We moved our game forward to tonight and beat Millwall 1-0.

We both agreed to move the game forward a week as it was a short pre-season so both teams could get more minutes into players. We made 9 changes and they made 6. It also gives us a free week towards the end of the month where others will be playing midweek.

Wigan at home in a competition where we have seriously underperformed over the years. Its a more than useful for smaller clubs like ourselves and if you manage to win a game or two the money is not to be sniffed at . Bigger clubs will turn their noses up at it, all we have to do it to try a win which will be a big ask. I know there are upsets in the early stages but unfortunately cant see this and another early exit from this comp
Now that should ensure a passage through to the next round lol

I should give a shit about this competition, seen as we got to the semis only a few years ago - but truth be told it’s shit unless you draw a prem team at home or progress to the business end.
Not bothered if we lose to Rochdale away.
Can see why it might get scrapped as an entity.

We always seem to go out in the first round and Cheltenham away is a poor draw for us (no disrespect...)

But we currently have a thin squad so might be playing close to a first XI, which might give us half a chance.

We're so underwhelmed by the draw the tickets are £12 for adults and £1 for kids - I'm still not going...

I think ours are £14 for Rotherham. Not a bad price but to be honest I’d rather we did what Cambridge have done and bring it forward so as we could have built up match fitness in the likes of Massey. Seems a smart thing to do.

Seeing the replies to this thread pretty much concludes to me that nobody gives a shit about this competition so let’s just can it. Stick with the papa johns and that leaves the fa cup and your regional cups as the make up.

The group stage would be fine without the u23s.
It’s still too many games. Just make it knock out. Even regional if needed like it used to be till the final.
Perhaps a more classy sponsor too would be great rather than a take away.

I am not too fussed about the Carabao Cup, if we beat Rotherham and get a plumb tie it will have interest of course but Vale usually go out first round.

We've only had a couple of decent runs since I have been following Vale in 2000, Spurs A in 2006, beating both Sheffield clubs (Champ V L2 at the time) in 2009 and West Brom around 2014ish

Otherwise its meh. We have often made big changes for it even if against a second tier club.

The Pizza Cup I dont mind, I can watch them on ifollow relatively chilled about the result and it gives us a competitive chance to blood some squad players, we've tended to build a relatively even squad capability wise so good to get minutes in. The U23 part of that though is pointless, we usually turn up Men v Boys against them and its like a training game, we've played Liverpool in the past two seasons and hit 9 past them over the two ties. Pointless.

Personally I never really cared about it anyway so I don’t mind the U23 Prem teams being in it - have they also removed the dumb rule about having a high minimum number of “recognised first teamers” in the games?

As long as you don’t have to risk too many First XI players, I think it’s fine - we don’t have a dedicated reserve team anyway so if anything it’s great for our dev squad players to get a run out in a (sort of) competitive fixture.

Plus I think it’s the Prem teams who coughed up a bunch of ££ to make the prize money a lot more attractive, I think prior to this clubs would lose money every time opening the ground up because the gates are so poor. Well, I suppose the hosting club will still lose money if they lose the game, but hey.

Pizza cup should be 48 teams - league 1 and 2.
If we need more teams include the top half of the conference.
Regional rounds, north and south.
Semis - 2 legs,
final at Wembley.

I agree, just sub the 16 U23's for the top 16 of the national league, its a fairly competitive level now in the fifth tier so would give some decent games.

When we won it I recall we played a non league side en route.
