Lost to Southampton, they were far too good for us. No complaints.

Good show by Fleetwood, just not enough in up front. Poor back pass led to their goal, afraid we've been guilty in of this in a few games already this season.Went with an Everton fan who behaved impeccably. Lot of youngsters out there who did themselves proud !

Bloody penalties. I'd like to think if we had Jamal Blackman in goal he would have saved at least one of them. However sounded like we didn't deserve to go through.
Still not got to the third round in 33 years.
That's what you get for gubbing us 7-0 - seems so worth it now doesn't it :P1:

Disappointing 3-2 defeat at Newport. We led twice and missed some great chances. Made lots of changes but it was still a strong team so no complaints.

Quite fancied a big third round tie but you can't have everything.

Got to agree was ok at Barrow in the National league and lge 2. Cost us last season in the Pizza cup away at Hartlepool not played since.
Evatt does not include him on the bench so i cannot see him playing again. Best for both us and him if we could loan him out for the season

No big reward for MK Dons or Morecambe then.

Basically all the PL teams drew each other it seems!

Think this is possibly the dullest set of draws I can ever remember, if I didn’t know better I might think that the TV advertising sales guys had gamed the system to maximise their £££ from the games that get televised.

All the magic of the cup…neatly removed.

Anyway.

We went out to Brizl City, but that’s OK. We played a bunch of dev squad players, whereas I believe BCFC were taking this more seriously in terms of their team choice.

Ainsworth never takes this cup seriously (I mean, if we can put out the stiffs v Man fucking City last season, of all teams…) so not surprised.

Definitely a good thing to give the dev squad guys some senior football though, and we were still in the game till relatively near the end, so I’d say that’s pretty positive.

Lost 3-0 to Brighton, played pretty well but undone by clinical finishing. We do play some lovely stuff but are lightweight at times and stand off teams too much, although will say Olly Casey looks a very decent young CB, has impressed these last few games.

Ouch. I haven’t seen FGR since the last time we played you, so I can’t comment on the current side, but that sounds like a dangerous way to play in this division.

Unless you can 100% out-football any given side (which let’s face it is pretty unlikely with the average calibre of players in the teams with smaller wage bills) then you stand a serious risk of getting bullied.

The best footballing side I’ve seen at this level was easily Swansea when they were on their way up, but in their case I think they kept several of those players in the Championship, and maybe even in the Prem (?), so they had the quality to play that way.

Terrible draw for Wednesday away at Southampton. Don't get me wrong, Southampton are a good club, just a massive distance to travel for a midweek cup game, a fair to little chance of progression and a probable poor turnout will do little to fill our coffers....

Think the above comments sum our performance up, last night was pretty similar to our home league games against Ipswich and Plymouth, where we started OK and created some reasonable chances but were ultimately undone by not being clinical enough. Brighton were just a bit slicker with the passing and movement, which you would expect from players from a Premier League team, but ours couldn't quite match them. At times we did move the ball around nicely, but on occasion gifted possesion back a little easily.

That said, I'm proud of how we have played in all three home games, no team has completely destroyed us and we have tended to get into the games a bit more in the second half...but giving two goal leads away, to probably the only chances all three teams have had at that point, is currently the killer. If we can stop doing that at home and maybe score the first goal ourselves we might be on to something!

Our next three home league games are against Shrewsbury, Accrington and Morecambe...I think we really need to get at least a win and a draw from them or the home fans might start to get a bit restless. The three after that are Exeter, Bolton and Pompey...which is a bit more scary!

Our kids got the same draw in the Youth Cup last season and sprang a shock mind.

Its what they wanted, ever since they got rid of seedings in the second round.
No Premier League side will be 'embarrassed' at a lower league club, and you have the big all top flight ties that Sky will pick as the live games

Shit draw on a Lincoln level and also a general one.

EDIT - I think the 3rd round is either the midweek before or after FA Cup weekend?

Sums us up at the minute to play appallingly and lose 1-0 at Chippenham then win 3-1 at Bristol City.

It wasn't their full strength side, nor was it ours, but it still shows the wild inconsistencies in our squad.

Exactly my thoughts. We had a lot of players out, but we took it to them, taking advantage of some slopping defending, and then defended as a team when they bought more of their big guns on!

Draw is on Thursday night, next round played midweek before Christmas.

Us Charlton and MK through from this division, Gillingham from League 2. Sheff Wed and Derby could join us too.

MK Dons and Charlton at home to PL opposition and Lincoln away to Southampton (come on the Imps!)

With the ties straight after the World cup probably got a good chance if these big clubs basically play the kids.
