My thoughts on that has always been that it's because Manchester is a two club place, and other than Bristol City, every other major 'City' with their hometown in the name are on their own (i.e. you can call Birmingham City 'Birmingham' without anyone being confused with Villa). So while Leicester and Hull fans call their club 'City' the rest of the country calls them 'Leicester' and 'Hull'.

And other than Sheffield, it's the same for, well, United.

The opposite, until recently, used to be true in Europe would call Manchester United 'Manchester'... Which was also fucking annoying!

edit: Congratulations to ManCity: Gladbach had no chance in this match. Could've been much worse than 0-4. At least no 0-7 like Celtic so Gladbach has a better Goal Difference now

Dortmund without problems in Warsaw. 6-0 is a statement. Unfortunately Real Madrid could turn the whole match in the last minute and in stoppage time and won 2-1 against Sporting.

Boring and ridiculous Leverkusen done it again. Played like a World Champ for 30 min and was 2-0 upfront and could've been up 4 or 5-0 . And then Moscow with one counter attac make them nervous and they are shitting themselves 2-2 and at the end they even had luck.
