POTS will be awarded on Sunday, nominees are Daryl Murphy, Patrick Bamford and Troy Deeney. Slightly uninspiring (but also unsurprising) that all three are strikers, I'm sure there are plenty of worthy candidates in other positions too.

Murphy's been superb all season, for large parts he's carried the team in terms of goalscoring and I think he'd be a deserving winner. Not that the other two wouldn't, of course.

Wouldn't even put Bamford in the top 3 strikers in the league, let alone top 3 players.

Even with the forwards bias, does seem strange not to include other top players who are also in attacking positions like wingers, midfielders etc.

Also means that one of the 3 supposed best players in the league won't get in the Team of the Season

Yeah, I would never put Bamford in that list. There have been some great midfielders this year, Hughes could be up there, and pretty much opposition fan comes out of games against us saying Pritchard was one of the best players they've seen this season.

Murphy for me from that list.

Strange not to have anyone from the top 2 and of course they go for strikers as its the easy option.

Murphy I can understand, Deeney while good of course has been doing this for a few years now, so that's a bit so-so. Bamford deserves to be no where close to this list,5 better strikers in the league at least if not more, plus plenty better players in other positions.

Personally I would have gone with Murphy, Ritchie and then someone else but it's not easy to chose ;)

I'd have Callum Wilson over all of them - been on fire this season.

It irritates me how strikers are always the only players up for the award every year. I would say the best player in the League this season has been Matt Richie. If we have to pick one from the list, I'd go for Chris Martin, because we all saw what Derby were like when he was injured

Seems strange to not have any Bournemouth players there considering they've been top or thereabouts for most the season.

Though, I suppose, given this...
Each manager was asked to list their top five players from this season in order, with the scores added up to get a shortlist and an overall winner.
... it could just mean votes for defenders/midfielders were more split rather than not considered.

Worst player of the three in the list, shouldn't have been close to it. how he won I will never know.

He's had a pretty good year to be fair to him!

Why the fuck didn't we go back in for him. He singlehandedly took 6 points off us and now POTY.

Odd choice from an odd shortlist.

I think choosing a standout player out of defenders, goalkeepers, midfielders and strikers is an impossible task though. Easy to go for the goalscorers

Although it gives good balance that the managers vote for their top 5 players, how many Championship managers have faced the other 23 Championship clubs? Can't imagine too many with the the turnaround you get in managers in this division.

I think it's pretty strange to award the Championship player of the year award to a player on loan from a Premier League club, especially when there are better players than him playing in the division.

Glen Murray is in the top 3 strikers in the last 10 years to play in the Championship? Who ever compromises these lists doesn't have a clue. Eddie Howe as manager?

Our understanding down here (maybe wrong) is that Howe's award is for Football League manager of the decade, i.e. his work across all 3 leagues.

It would be pretty weird if it's specifically for the championship.

And yeah the team is pretty random. Bale - how much Football League football has he played?

Just under a full season for Bale... He was the only of the 11 who was allowed to make some kind of speech too.

Think we deserved to have some representative there, given only Reading and Sunderland have won the title twice in that period, and we have the record points total. But then it seemed like they ignored the first half of the decade completely. The only title winners came in the last two seasons; only Bale (.....) and Whittingham made a team of the season in the first half of the decade.

Not overly trying to be prevocative, but why do Reading fans go on about the "record points total" so much. I know it's off topic, but every time we play you, your fans sing it. It's as if you think this makes teams with a bit of history jealous.

Do you(r fans), think this is a significant achievement?

Not trying to make people jealous, but at a club with very little in the way of silverware and achievements, it is a very significant achievement for us. If it were that easy and small an accomplishment than why has no club beaten it? It is the record points total of any club to have ever played in the football league over its long history.

We're hardly going to sing about winning a Full Members Cup or reaching a couple of FA Cup Semi finals or finishing eighth in the top tier, as many teams can better that.. success is relative to each club and that is about as high as our success has gone. What else should we sing? "we've won fuck all" would be regarded as 'tinpot' as singing about the points total, so may as well celebrate our highs.

I admit every year afterwards it does look a little more desperate, clinging onto that one season, but then it also goes to show how big the achievement was that it still stands.

Thanks, I do find it very cringey to be honest. For instance, we don't sing about our achievements due this being 40 years ago. I just find it odd that your lot sing it so often. I honestly don't think it was that big an achievement tbh, if it was the top league, you've really got something to sing about, but records points in the second tier, nah, to me that is tinpot.

Any way, back on topic :animatedf:

That's how I read it too, which is fair enough.

I don't have anything against Bamford but it's hard to understand why he's won the award, for various reasons that others have already stated.

Or it's longest servants! A disgrace!

Although an optimistic Town fan may want to associate Rhodes with us again, despite his hatful amount of appearances

Yea, was a joke. Not sure if it went to the public vote (which would make me a lot less surprised) or a panel of "experts".

Perhaps even Coppell? I think Howe has done a fantastic job, but Coppell is the only manager to have ever won the LMA Manager of the Year in back to back seasons.

Steve Sidwell, Nicky Shorey, Glen Little, Kevin Doyle - all very credible options.

Kevin Doyle was probably in with a shout until we added a double relegation to his CV
