Post your shitties.

Here is my first one:

I started on a custom map from the workshop of an island. Wasn't perfect and the silly person who created it made the highways the wrong way round. Anyway, my first square of the map gave me a nice place to build a neighbourhood on the hills which this shot is mainly of. On the other side of the highway was my ugly industrial area. In the distance you can see an even uglier industrial island with all the factories / incinerations plants / landfills. The beach bit sucks butts.

As I extended further inland, and started building more ambitious areas, I decided I wanted some parks, but the ingame ploppable squares didn't really excite me, so I decided to make my own:

Throughout you can probably see I'm zoning everything to within an inch of its life. Traffic built up horribly. I have no room to expand my industrial areas, or to improve my road system in the current areas. Highway looks like it was drawn on by a child. So I decided to retire this city before I could even come up with a name for it. RIP < - >

Started my new city on one of the default maps (Black Woods). Aiming for it to be much more aesthetically pleasing and with room for expansion and improvement in everything I build. Seem to have spent more time placing trees than anything else. Obviously this is just the first square of the map whereas the one above is using 4 squares.

This looks better than the more recent Sim City.

It is, James. Basically, everything Sim City got wrong, it fixes and gets right.

I may have to steal your ideas regarding hand made parks though ZFG. Those are pretty cool.

My city is pretty boring, especially compared to yours. I've not even expanded it yet. And it's all in uniform blocks as well. I usually tend to make a first boring city and then once I get the hang of it and have unlocked a bunch of shit try something a bit more exciting.

I've not had to chance to play much since I got it the other night but I'm purposely avoiding grids as much as possible, loving the free form road tool and just making curly suburbs at the minute. Waiting to see how traffic copes, though have a feeling it won't end well once the population builds up.

Loving the game so far, though spent more time watching it on twitch and youtube than actually playing.

Is this a sequel to city life? Looks very similar. Loved that game so may have to get this.

Not heard of City Life, but this is made by Colossal Order a small Finnish company who also made Cities In Motion series which were more of a transport simulation type games.

Thought about making a city inspired by Midgar. Got to work in the map editor. Realised I'm not really going to be able to get anything to look as big or impressive as the 8 iconic reactors, nor replicate the dark, oppressive, industrialised nature of the place (nor do I really want to - I want a pretty city), but I was far enough into making the map that I'm going to use it anyway. My intention is to just give each individual sector a flavour of its own. So here's that old familiar pizza

Might build the little town of Kalm in the north as well, and maybe some farms, since I'm using the 25 tile mod.

Idealised radial town planning, mate. Filarete, Ebenezer Howard, etc.

We should take it to the art and architecture thread. I love urban landscapes from above stuff, which I suspect is mostly attributable to a childhood playing Sim City and now watching bike races filmed from helicopters.

For those who have it, is it worth getting? Certainly looks impressive.

Certainly worth getting. It's the game Sim City should've been.

Likely to buy this over the weekend, what sort of attractions and places can you build for example is there shops, stadiums, schools, hospitals etc?

Why y'all so shy

Here's the first sector. Definitely going to revisit this as soon as I've unlocked all the zoning types and more of the map. The turdblock that is my industrial area will be moved elsewhere.

I pumped too much poop into the river and it flooded.

Got this a few days ago. That's way prettier than anything I've managed to make so far. Just trying to focus on good traffic management at the moment and any aesthetics is coming second to that.

WAP, there are shops, schools and hospitals + a lot more. Not sure about stadiums but I don't think it will be long before something is up on the Steam workshop if not already, this game has been built with modding in mind.

The one problem my cities seem to get is piling up of dead bodies. Nothing I do seems to create a situation where they can be collected easily.

You need better traffic, and you need to place your cemeteries / crematoriums in well-connected places. Most service problems in this game are down to whether they're stuck in traffic or not.

Also, I think service vehicles of all types (from fire engines to garbage trucks to hearses) will only turn the direction that their side of the road goes, so on the default right-hand drive setting they won't go across the lane to turn left even if their destination is next to them. At least that's how it was at launch - may have been patched by now.

I'd never heard of the game before. I'm getting all up in this.
