just reading through the shoutbox and some belters (no names mentioned...) are claiming that bristol are a bigger club than hull :fl:

time for some discussion then, with it being the end of the season and not much happening in this league. your club order in terms of size in this league, and explain why if questioned. happy to give facts and answer any quires. we did this on the other forum, some got a bit carried away.

1) leeds
2) forest
3) wolves
4) wednesday
5) derby
6) birmingham
7) blackburn
8) hull
9) PNE
10) middlesbrough
11) ipswich
12) bolton
13) bristol city
14) charlton
15) huddersfield
16) cardiff
17) burnley
18) brighton
19) qpr
20) reading
21) fulham
22) brentford
23) rotherham
24) mk dongs

thoughts?

This has been discussed many times.

Leeds miles ahead of anyone else. Then Wolves,Wednesday, forest and Derby. That's debatable.

Bristol city are bigger than hull

So we're smaller than Hull who have spent a massive three years in the top flight, but bigger than Charlton who have spent over 20?

How the fuck would North End be 9th??

We've been out of the top flight for 50+ years and our home crowds are little over 10k.

Good trolling.

I'd say 2-5 is debatable but I'd put us second

I'd defo put derby 5th. Very hard to choose between the other 3. 2 European cups probably swings it for me though. Wolves probably just edge you too imo but like I say very hard to choose, everyone has a different opinion.

Don't know tbh just always seen them as a pretty big club have they not had more success than you over the last 50 odd years and very very similar crowds? Like I said hard to choose and I don't really know the facts just what I've always seen them as.

Dunno pal, from the era I've watched they were always below us in the league and attendances, if we go 50 years back do we go back to 150 etc? Playing devils advocate

Well yes I suppose your reyt how far back do you go. Either way not much in it between you both. Other argument what people will have this year, why pick Wolves on TV more than anyone else.? Then leeds, forest and Derby twice as much as you?

QPR should be above Brighton for a start and as JJH has said no way should Hull be above Bristol City.

Wolves

First Div titles: 3
FA Cups: 4
League Cups: 2
(UEFA Cup runners up: 1 )

Sheff Wed

First Div titles: 4
FA Cups: 3
League Cups: 1

Derby

First Div titles: 2
FA Cups: 1

Notts Forest

First Div titles: 1
FA Cups: 2
League Cups: 4
European Cups: 2

There isn't a huge amount between us in trophies won (although special mention to Forest being European Champions twice). It would be hard to pick who is bigger between us 4 on the basis of trophies alone, Although it's very close, if I had to pick, it would be:

Leeds
Notts Forest
Sheff Wed
Wolves
Derby

To be fair there hasn't been much basis on the opposition we've played on TV. I assume we were on TV a lot earlier in the season because of how we ended the previous one. We were an exciting, attacking team that scored lots of goals. Now were just shit and haven't scored at home in 3 games. Of the top of my head, we have played

Derby x2
Hull x2
Birmingham x2
Notts Forest
Leeds
Huddersfield
Middlesbrough
Reading
Cardiff
Brighton
Sheff Wed

Probably 1 or 2 others I forget.

Without looking could of sworn Wednesday have won 3 leagues but I'm obviously wrong. Would of had a bet on that too. Anyway all clubs that should be in the top flight but that's football and that's why we love it

We should be above both Hull and Bristol City but other than that pretty spot on as far as we're concerned.

Bristol City are bigger than Hull btw.

Hull are closer to 18th than 8th. Same level as us/Brighton IMO, though I wouldn't care if they were above us purely for more seasons at this level. You can go back within 20 years and Hull had a league season with an average attendance under 3.5k!

Just had a look at our roll of honour and it has to be said, for a club of our size, we've got a decent haul.

2 First Division Titles, Runners-Up 6 times,
2 FA Cups, Runners-Up 5 times.

We were a force in English football for around 8 decades until it all went Pete Tong in the 60's.
