The 4 biggest clubs are Leeds, Wednesday, Forest and Derby. End of thread.

I'd agree with Walkley, although I'd probably move Blackburn a bit higher on that Premiership title alone.

What defines a big club? Could be down to trophies won, most time spent in the top division, biggest stadium, famous players etc..

If were talking in general I doubt you could see past Derby, Forest, Sheff Wed, Leeds and Wolves (in no particular order). Some other decent sized clubs in the league too with plenty of history.

The fact we've never been in the Prem works both ways in something like this.

On one hand, we're shit.

On the other, our crowds aren't to dissimilar to some of these clubs who have had multiple spells in the Prem and picked up extra fans along the way.

Either way, we're near the bottom of this one so bollocks to it.

Walkley, what have Brighton done to deserve being 10th on your list (and 10 places higher than Reading).

Seem to have this discussion a lot with Brighton fans, about which club is bigger.. We're about as identical as it gets.

Both clubs have very similar league histories, Brighton one more season in the top flight, Reading one less season in the bottom. Both clubs have failed to win any major honours, though at least Reading have won something.. Reading's highest league finish is higher, and our lowest isn't as low as Brighton's. Literally all Brighton have over us is attendances. Given how much emphasis you put on attendances perhaps I could understand you rating Brighton higher, but by 10?

I dunno mate, you were quite good before World War I

We were pretty good up until the early 60's to be fair, then Tom Finney retired and then....yeah....

Ended up talking out of my ass slightly there, but this is the difference between Brighton and Reading:
Tier 1: Brighton 4 seasons, Reading 3 seasons(Highest finish: Brighton 13th, Reading 8th)
Tier 2: Brighton 22, Reading 21
Tier 3: Brighton 55, Reading 56
Tier 4: Brighton 7, Reading 8 (Lowest finish: Brighton 23rd (91st), Reading 16th (84th)
Cup wins: Brighton 1x Charity Shield, Reading 1x Full Members Cup
Historical average attendance: Brighton 11.5k, Reading 10.3k

Walkley_Owl you're telling me that there are 9 clubs that are smaller than Brighton but bigger than Reading? We're almost identical.

Doesn't help that we play you every season now. Hillsborough has lost some of it's appeal.

But anyway, this season Reading took 856 fans to Hillsborough, Brighton took 675. They were both Saturday 3pm kickoffs.

:bye:

Theres no logical way to rank teams on size, its kinda pointless argument as its all about perceptions.

I'm not arguing that Reading are bigger, I think i've even said Brighton are slightly bigger than us (largely due to slightly larger attendances). But you rank them 10th biggest club in the league and Reading 20th - makes no sense to me.

Ah well, it's only opinions....

Probably just explained why to be fair - PL football brings a lot of tag-alongs, but you have to get there first, hence why Cardiff, QPR and Hull could possibly be labelled as bigger clubs than us now.

Not complaining this time, but i'm surprised almost everyone rates us as bigger than Fulham? I feel they are at least mid-level in this division.

Thought we would have 21st place cemented tbh.
