West Brom - I'm not sure why I started liking them, but it was in the 90s. Might be because they were on Central Soccer Sunday most weeks when ITV would show Football League games live in the mid-90s. My ex-girlfriend and her dad were also fans, so I followed them more in the mid-late 00s and have had a soft spot since.

Leeds - I like how they seem to be hated by everyone but don't give a monkey's toss. When we did the double over them in 07/08 they took the defeats on the chin and didn't do the "how did we lose to a club like Cheltenham" bs.

Portsmouth - Their fans have been brilliant every time they've come to Whaddon Road. Also saw a Premier League game against Bolton at Fratton Park in 2006 and the atmosphere for a nothing game was outstanding. Spent the day in a few pubs, and they were all good lads.

Wigan - A very recent one this. Met a few of their fans after our game a couple of weeks ago and they were really genuine lads. Told my son to make sure he keeps supporting his local team as our club needs fans like him and the big clubs don't. Also, again, despite their years in the Premier League, they didn't have the Billy Big Bollocks attitude other fans of clubs who've had a season or two there have (looking at you Bradford).

Still not a single vote for our lovely little friendly club nestled in the garden of England.

I have a soft spot for you, Posh and anyone else who employed Fatty and Shouty - excluding ourselves (apologies for getting Shouty started) and Rovrum, who seem to be having a mini love-in of mutual admiration at the moment.

I have read this post 5 times.

Is there only me that doesn't understand most of it?

Apologies.

The soft spot suitable for Posh, Gills, et al, is a swamp - the deeper and smellier the better.

(Mark Bonner and Paul Warne seem to have set up a Mutual Admiration Society based on recent interviews)

I used to have a soft spot for Rotherham, probably based on naivety on my behalf growing up, same with Chesterfield, only when we played them competitively did I see the vitriol aimed our way, some warranted, some not. Shame it went that way in my personal opinion.

Off subject but that was one of my favourite films growing up.

I worked in Chesterfield for 5 years as a resident engineer in the old Dema Glass factory. My experience there was that Wednesday were the main Sheffield club in Chesterfield to dislike.
Some of the lads there actually watched both Chesterfield and the Blades and people in general didn't seem to have as much of a problem with them.

Obviously Mansfield is their "hated" oponent, fired up no doubt be the miners strikes and the formation of the UDM but they certainly made it clear to me that they put Rotherham in a similar bracket to the Owls.

Wednesday are not liked by most Rotherham fans (no doubt hated by some I can't deny it) because of the "Rotherham Owls" and also their fans perceived arrogance.
The entitlement to be a "big" club playing in the top league and the fact that quite a lot of your fans believe they should be walking this league and not losing to teams like "insert smaller club".

I know not all Wednesday fans are like that because I have friends who have supported Wednesday all their lives and they are all good people,
I also know all clubs have arrogant fans it's just that Wednesday come across has having more than their fair share at times.

You only have to look at the current thread on Owlstalk about Sunday's match to see that some folk think Wednesday should be winning this despite us being top of the league and 13 points clear of you, not only because you are also in good form, but because it's "only Rotherham".
Many are even denying it's a derby because we are maybe not worthy of playing in the same league as the mighty Owls, never mind the fact we are just 6 miles apart.
Don't get me wrong you have an inter-city derby so any other pales into insignificance but you have other local derbies and that is just a fact despite not seeing yourselves as having to be in the same league, having to scrap it out against Doncaster, Rotherham and sometimes Barnsley.

I don't hate Wednesday and I certainly enjoy beating United when we do so but United (Warnock) helped us out when we were in one of admins by loaning us players to keep us going and their fans just seem "more like us TBH"

That's my take on it, the other Rotherham lads on here may wish to add their points of view,
Beaufighter and Reaper over to you.

I like Hull because they're a family team. I'm also probably the only Dons fan that actually quite likes Lincoln because I lived there for a few years and even worked at the club for a season.

however it appears no one likes my inoffensive club either
I could be swayed with an easy three points tomorrow? (Although red and white hoops is a mark against you. A bit too similar to our close friends just along the coast.)

Reminds me of the game I mentioned in my post above - around 2ish I was wandering around Portsmouth looking for a pub and a lad 50-60 yards away clocked me as he crossed the road. I followed him into the pub and ordered a lager as he sat at the other side of the bar.

Pompey fan - "You're bloody brave aren't you?"
Me - "Who me? Why?"
PF - "Coming into here dressed like that"
Me (completely baffled) - "Sorry?"
PF - "Wearing a scum shirt"
Me (even more baffled, looking down at myself to see my Cheltenham shirt untucked below my blue hoodie) - "Ummmm, it's a Cheltenham shirt"
PF - "Oh - I thought you either had a death wish or were bloody loopy"

He then bought me a drink, and was thoroughly pleasant afterwards.

I only have temporary soft spots - for fans of clubs that endured great injustice like being kicked out of your home ground. Wimbledon of course, Newport, Brighton, Charlton and although they are back now - currently Coventry. Be great if they could buy the Ricoh back and kick the rugby franchise out. For some reason I never had a temporary soft spot for Rotherham though. Indoctrination, perhaps, from being on the Pontoon in my youth singing We hate Yorkies and we hate Yorkies...
