Unless I've missed something - Bury have been expelled from the EFL, the club hasn't folded.

In that respect, Bury are a special case compared to all of the phoenix clubs mentioned in this thread.

I agree, but they are such a basket case financially that no credible businessman will touch them with a bargepole. C&N's statement when they pulled out of their bid were pretty damning. If it is sold, it will be to some charlatan like Joe Cala who will just prolong the agony.

I see zero point in resurrecting the current iteration of Bury FC, the big question now is the future of Gigg Lane.

I have all the sympathy for Bury fans. However it’s an insult to the Football pyramid to add a club so relatively high up the pyramid just because they were great 100+ years ago. It’s franchising through the back door

If someone takes on the debts of the existing club and is able to revive it then I'd say there is a case for being accepted into the National League at the lower level. However if anyone is willing and able to do that surely it would have already happened before they were expelled from the Football League?

They've already been expelled from the Football League, a decision that won't have been taken lightly. Anyone like Andy Burnham suggesting they should be simply accepted back again doesn't comprehend the gravity of the situation they've created, leaving other clubs with unfulfilled fixtures and leaving the whole league to run a club short for the season. That's not just bad luck, they (specifically those who mismanaged the club, but effectively the club itself from everyone else's perspective) screwed up the season for a lot of other people, cost every other club in the division a home fixture with all the associated revenue, while season ticket holders at other clubs have been shortchanged.

Looking at Bury’s last available set of accounts, they lost between 2.5m and 3m in EACH of the three years to that date. Probably a similar number again to 2019. They massively overspent money they didn’t have and won a promotion on the back of it. Yes they had horrendous owners but the consequences of that massive over spending doesn’t mean they get a free pass to start higher up the pyramid than they should.

Start again at bottom, as others have done, and Bury will find eventually find their natural level, be it back in the Football League or as a non league club.

He's talking absolute shit. There won't be a club short in the National League if the FL cut League 2 relegation down to 1 place, and they should not be put in anywhere else at the expense of other clubs who may have done no wrong.

If a Bury phoenix club then they should apply for whatever league they can get and be happy if they get a place in the North West Counties league, and if placed any higher than that treat it as a blessing. Saying that clubs at that level won't be able to handle their travelling support won't cut it, they seemed to cope with FC United fans when they first started up. It may have been through single match groundshares etc. but it was manageable.
Weeellll, it actually did cut it for us as part of our appeal. That said things have changed since then.

Well Hereford were put in the Midland Football League and regularly took 1k to away games. My club Long Eaton United got roughly 800 against them but it was a Tuesday night game (our ground can hold about 3.2k)

I loved our trip to Long Eaton. Great little ground, good pubs. Spent the first part of the day at Warhammer HQ.
The Midlands Premier was (let's be honest) a perfect restart place for us. It took us 2 months to get started, really.

So at the moment no plans to setup a phoenix club.
I really don't get how these MP's think there will be buyers queuing up to take on a non league club who are millions in debt.....surely if anyone wanted the club they would of done it when they was actually a league club.

If they ain't careful they will have no team to support next season if they continue to drag this out.
Phoenix setup is running alongside attempting to keep club going. I would support either or as long as that utter bastard Dale (or Day who is the original twat) have NOTHING to do with it.
Dale buggered about with the selling of the club, a lot of fans think his brief when he took over was to shut the club down (money laundering is the suspicion)
The promotion last season was NOT on massive spending, that was in the preceding seasons and budget had been drastically cut last season, even those on obscene money ended up not being played.
Day, Dale Deakin (Capital Bridge Finance) and Glen Thomas all to blame.
We start where we are put but don't blame us for trying to get a higher place, that's human nature.

Don't make the mistake of getting 2 clubs up and running - Scarborough did that in 2007 and 12 years later the highest placed one crawled into tier 6.....

wouldn’t that be the better thing to do and not have the taxman et al chasing the club for daft payments.

The NPL is great anyway! Cracking days out

Why go to Crewe when you can go to Nantwich instead of Macclesfield you can play Buxton etc

If Bury have to start again, then we're talking at best the North West Counties League (which they will obviously piss) as a starting point.

The door was closed on re-starting in the Evostik after Halifax and Chester. Bury might try the "no one will be able to cope with our travelling thousands" excuse but that is unlikely to wash any more now that there is a rule stating that any new club cannot start higher than step 5 in the non league pyramid.

Hell we were put at step 5 and we were only "treated" as a new club.

First fundraising game Sunday at Radcliffe, sold out 2000 5 days before game, we were all expecting another 2000 pay on the day, Radcliffe said they couldn't manage so a 2000 crowd it was.
Looking at ways to up the crowd limit next season there IE more turnstiles/stewards temp seats etc
A good day had by all and we will be back.

That will make things much more difficult- what's happening to Gigg Lane?
In the hands of some very dodgy money men
1 day we may return to Gigg but we will return to football next season (somewhere in the non-league structure) and Radcliffe is only 1.5 miles from Gigg so makes sense.

Superb gesture
It's NOT the fans fault it's bloody dodgy money laundering and I really hope this money does NOT go to the official Bury FC but Forever Bury instead.

Why would anyone even do that? I don't even donate to my own club apart from buying a ticket.

Even if I had the money to spare I wouldn't donate it my (or any) football club.

In all honesty, I would hold fire until BFC is officially dead. That way NO chance any cash you generously donate will end up in the hands of dirty arsed money launderers
I thank you for the thought though

I'll do it because as a fan I feel for them. Nobody wants to lose their club. If other clubs all wither and die, who will we play against on a Saturday ?. Would be the same if it was Wrexham or anyone (maybe not Stevenage)
