He is but a hattrick against a 10 man Panama is hardly one of his top feats. Lovely free kick though, Argentina look formidable for once.
Not saying it is one of his top feats but he was impressive and ran the show as soon as he came on.

A 30 minute hattrick with a beautiful free kick. Wow.

Messi is brilliant. The maestro of this beautiful Argentina win.
Surely a win like this isn't to boast same as Brazil against Haiti. But Argentina otherwise has armory enough to play like this against the stronger ones. Tata Martino just have to put all their potential in practice.

Paraguay certainly isn't in a good phase. And USA did well even with one man less. Also surprisingly with Costa Rica victory USA finished first on the group. If Costa Rica have played like this since the beginning of Copa América...

By now no surprises with Ecuador and Haiti. That makes Brazil and Peru game even more decisive since a win is crucial to one classify along Ecuador but a tie, depending of amount of goals to Peru since Brazil is very comfortable in terms of GD in case of a tie, can totally change and put both at next phase.

Is that Brazil out?
Unfairly, but yes. Peru better take this chance and win all this thing now to revenge us. But no more hands please, leave it only to the keeper.

Just watched the highlights and that was a clear handball. Sure, it was a big mistake by the ref, but I can see why he and the lino didn't think it was, as it wasn't so clear in real time. But about that glorious chance Brazil missed right at the end in injury time? :dk:

That final chance Brazil missed with Elias was really ridiculous. It doesn't justify the situation as the results without the ref mistake was our. But ok, Brazil probably wouldn't take long to be eliminated anyway.

Venezuela is being very surprising. Until now winning from México. But probably México will try to be more offensive on this second half eventually nobody wants to face Argentina (probable adversary of second place of this group).

México ended up tieing it but still surprising result from Venezuela. Uruguay at least finished well their participation in the competition, against Jamaica, ok, but better than nothing.

And Dunga was fired (finally!) due to Brazil's elimination. For that I have to thank Peru's lending of a helping hand. Hopefully CBF won't get someone worse. Tite is the most probable name, that sounds nice.

Aye Brazil have played like dung under Dunga, and its no surprise that if they are to try and push for success in the Olympics, then he had to get sacked. Hope the new guy doesn't want Coutinho or Firmino in for it though, they've more important things to concentrate on!! ;)

Agree. Actually to succeed in anything Dunga was not the right guy for Brazil but CBF can be very non-sense. But some minutes ago Tite was confirmed to be our new coach and that's very likely. Though it seems Micale will command Brazil at Olympics. Press and CBF are trying to push it as the most important competition for our national team in terms of masculine football but clearly to hide all the flops under Dunga. Also there's absolutely no planning at all to Olympics so a new flop can be very predictable.

Last matches of group phases yesterday. Chile and Argentina doing well as expected. Despite Panamá didn't classify I liked their posture on the time they last. Bravo did some mistakes that could pawn Chile but they controlled well the match after Panamá's goal. Argentina had a very good first half but nothing impressive at second when Messi got in and honestly didn't see any of him.

Phew! What a game. TBH Ecuador were unlucky...cuz their striker was proper shit. Enner Valencia worst striker in Copa.

I only saw the last 15 mins but the amount of chances Ecuador had was phenomenal and they should've done better really.

How's the tournament been regarded over in the states? Are more people getting into it and it been deemed a success?

USA's very surprising. Hardly would expect them getting to the semis even more against Ecuador. Dempsey did very well. Ecuador had a good reaction but then it was too late for them and it wasn't a night to count with Enner Valencia or else things could've been different. Anyway congrats to USA.

Glad to see colombia make it through. Peru didn't deserve to make it through to next round after getting so far by cheating.

Colômbia tactically was the better side but Peru works hard to not take the goal, that's something Gareca got right but the team misses some audacity since Peru seems to play always for the tie not to win with almost no attack. I thought they would risk a bit more even to try to "honor" the chance they got but the excessive cautious posture prevail and that's not exactly beneficial to them and with Brazil it only worked everybody knows why. But still they effort in their defensive way all the match and reached the penalties, that's not bad.

What a half! Genius by Messi for Higuain's first, dreadful passback from the Venezuela defender to let him in for his second, a stonewall penalty for Argentina which wasn't given; Venezuela hitting the post, a world class save from Romero on a deflection, a penalty for them which wasn't given, and then finally a penalty which was, which was saved when Romero read that the player would chip down the middle! Phewww!

Roll on the second half! :D
