That's pretty fucking rich coming from you

We had multiple positive tests though so had no choice, and we also sent second strings to Leiston and Wrexham early in the season when we had an outbreak.

Rock and a hard place. If it's a loan then the board will never accept it, so the season's over. If it's a grant, then the NL board members will just defraud taxpayers again.

It’s mind boggling that we could be within weeks of having to halt the season and yet some teams are still buying players like it’s just a normal season

IF the National League does get cancelled this season which is looking possible would that then open the door for Macclesfield or even Bury FC trying to get their act together and be the 24th team next season?

No. Macclesfield no longer exist and Bury applied last season and were rightly rejected.

Seasons over, might as well cancel tonight’s games.

This is getting silly now, any team in the National League that wants to stop playing should be booted down to the jumpers for goal posts leagues.

If it meant taking an £400,000 loan to cover the final 5 months of the season (it was £84,000 each National League club was given per month from memory) or being relegated to Step 3 then regrettably I'd rather we take the latter in such a hypothetical situation.

We're a supporter owned club so a debt that large would cripple us, it's just not worth it. Interestingly a couple of Chester directors liked our Chairman's tweet last night so I'm assuming their viewpoint would be similar.

Which just goes to show how much a a farce this grant/loan/money distributed has been, clubs were asked to submit what their perceived losses would be if no fans were allowed in, all clubs did this and they were rejected/ignored by the powers that be and clubs received either £95,000 I think seven in the National got this and the rest £84,000, did Wealdstone need £84,000 a month to cover having no fans in the stadium? Probably no right?

And please you bunch of fannies, I'm hardly being serious am I.

We are in the same boat as you because we are fan owned and we don’t have any assets we only Spend money we have in the bank, it would be like gambling everything on the roll of a dice only two teams can go up a lot of the rest would just go under.

This is the problem that the NL has, as bad as its administration is. Trying to represent the interests of Notts County and, say, Hungerford Town at the same time when they’re so far apart.

I totally get why the smaller clubs in the league wouldn’t want to play on when all that’s being offered is loans. But I can also see that the damage of not playing on for us (and at least a handful of other clubs) would be much greater than the loan.

Just off the top of my head - it would presumably mean that we lose the parachute payments and academy funding without having had the opportunity to get promoted (without mentioning a title challenge having been abruptly ended last year and having played a play-off final without what would’ve been a huge advantage in terms of fans). I imagine we have lots of players earning more than the maximum amount you can claim on furlough. What do we do with the two or three we have who could play in the league now and, certainly in Roberts and Wootton’s cases, are worth some serious ££? Can they just walk away, as they’re effectively being stopped from working?

It’s going to get extremely messy.

Does anyone know what the trigger is for the loans to be repaid? If they are structured like Student Loans for example - increased levels of revenue and profitability trigger repayment - then for the majority of clubs they will never be paid back anyway.

And secondly, is this more of an issue for the part time clubs than the full time clubs? I would assume most full time clubs have investors/backers as income in this division definitely won't be meeting expenditure, regardless of whether fans are in the ground or not.

I did say my reply was hypothetical - it's not me being a fanny going off that reply.

Looking from the outside in I'd have said no to us needing £84,000 a month. Realistically I think we'd have averaged around 1,400 for the season but the club could have put a legitimate case forward that we'd be pulling in more than that.

Nail. Hit. Head. It's impossible to represent clubs whose structures are so far apart but that's the problem with the league being covered across 2 steps of the pyramid - it's not like the North and South clubs could end the season but it continue in the National League. One size fits all is what the NL administrators/board are going to have to do here and it's going to screw over a whole bunch of clubs one way or the other.

Perhaps enough of a public outcry could see the DCMS change their minds and the next tranche of funding be delivered via grants? If it's going to cost the government as much if clubs were to furlough their staff then they might as well go down this road.

It could be that the league have been compromised by the government’s inability to no longer fund grants. If so, I get it! The alternative of taking out loans however does not work. The short term gain creates a long term loss for club and community

Maidenhead haven't had a game since Boxing day.
At this rate we may finish this season in around 2024.
