It's why they are bottom of the league with about 27 games in hand. No desire to play as they are rolling in it.

Board members diverting covid funds for the interests of them or their mates?

Have they thought about joining the Conservative party?

Parmenter has always been an odious little gobshite.

So he’d fit right in.

Wouldn’t be a relegation.

I cannot see the NL allowing that to happen as it would threaten two up, two down.

There will be two teams promoted this season, it's how we get to those teams that will be controversial.

If they don't come up with the funds as grants somehow then surely just pause the league until fans can return? Extend the league into May and June if need be.

Or just promote the current top two, I'm sure we would all be happy with that.;)

last league game is already 29th May, then playoffs, & expect the FA want it all over before the Euros start on June 11th

If null and void how could there be? Especially on so few games.

Who says you have to null and void now. They could suspend and see if fans are back in a few months - If so get everybody to the fairest place which is to make sure everybody has played each other once (average out points if teams have already played each other twice) then go to the playoffs.

No-one can say 100% that the complete farce surrounding the initial grant pay-outs has resulted in the loan option but it's hard not to come to the conclusion that it has.

The NL Board have a) said it would be distributed one way, then haven't done so, b) come up with a calculation that has seen the smaller Club's better off and bigger Club's worse off, c) delayed the release of the independent investigations report and probably wouldn't have done had the investigators not gone public about it, d) effectively refused to budge from said flawed model despite the recommendations from the independent investigation that it needed changing and e) turns out lied to the NL Club's about the second tranche of funding being in grants, which the DCMS have said was never the case.

I mean, they're pretty serious fuck-ups, and fuck-ups that should result in mass resignations/vote of no confidences. The handling has been so below-par it's unacceptable.

At least the EFL came up with a formula that compensated all Club's up to a certain amount depending on gate receipts. It wasn't perfect, it didn't cover everything but by and large the same % was covered through each league.

Why? Not like we'll have anyone playing in it and not exactly a competing draw for TV audiences are we?

It's the FA. They're nearly as bad as the NL board for their decisions.

Not at all like the conference to bollocks everything up at every opportunity - nice to know little has changed.

Yup that seems the most obvious back up plan - come back in April/May and play out a season where everyone’s played each other once.

No. Macclesfield no longer exist and Bury applied last season and were rightly rejected.
Weren't Berry rejected because of financial/ownership issues? If that takeover goes through and they can satisfy the relevant authorities that all problems are solved, then I don't see why they shouldn't be accepted. Macc Town went bust, Bury FC hasn't, just expelled

I would think expulsion from a league and two years of inactivity kills off any right to admission into the pyramid above step 6.

Southport manager Liam Watson

We’ve got this stupid tag of ‘elite’ sport. Well, I’ve got labourers, I’ve got scaffolders, I’ve got plasterers, I’ve got a variety of people who work on different jobs.

“They go to work, they walk in the changing rooms, sometimes they haven’t been able to get home and have a shower, like tonight, it’s a 7 o’clock kick-off. They do that, and someone foolishly calls them ‘elite’ sport.

“There is a reason why someone’s called it elite sport, and it was to do with getting play-offs on last year. We must be the only sport going where you’re saying elite sport, yet we don’t test players.”

He added: “At the first pandemic – because it seems like a back-to-back pandemic to me – you hardly knew anyone who had it; now you hardly know anyone who hasn’t had it. The strain is that bad, it’s that violent, and no one cares.

“The National League, let’s face it, from the start, we’ve had no leadership. Obviously, they’ve made changes at the top.

“I know we were promised grants. I’d actually question whether the DCMS promised with confidence that we’d get grants.

“I think it’s more the case of ‘well, we’ll take the grants for the first three months, and let’s hope we’ll have fans back in then’. Now it hasn’t, and as a director of a football club, I’d never take a loan.

“Why would I wanna take a loan? It might get you through three months.

“Oh, great, so you’ve got January, February, March – this season’s gonna go into June. So who’s gonna pay April, May, June?

“Then when you put it on the balance sheet, you’ve got a loan. The value of your business has actually massively reduced because you’ve got a £200,000 loan against that business.

“I don’t believe that’s something any football club should do, especially to cover up for a league. Do the league have any respect for us?

“I’ll say as a manager, no. As a director, no.

“As someone with a duty of care to a load of players, no.”

He concluded by saying: “There is no care in the world for anyone’s safety, none whatsoever. None for the volunteers, none for the press, none for anything, because if they did, this mockery would come to an end.

“If money is more important than life, count me out, I just don’t believe that’s right. I speak to loads of managers, everyone thinks it’s a joke now.

“You don’t even know at 2 o’clock whether the game’s gonna go ahead. We’ve had cases where someone’s feeling unwell in the dressing room and the game’s off.

“Just call it quits and start again next season.”

People have probably lumped football altogether tbh and called it elite sport.

I mean there will be those who think players at this level get paid thousands a week and live a life of luxury.

The elite v non-elite distinction was always just a bullshit artificial construct by the government anyway. Teams do what they need to do to further their own interests.

Three options on the table according to our chairman:

- Club loans at 2% interest over 10 years
- National League take loan and pay clubs in grants
- Suspend Season

If that's true, why would anyone not choose the second option?

How would the NL take on such a big loan? The main incomes being (I presume) sponsorship, TV (most of which would go to clubs) and a cut of gates from the playoffs... that wouldn't go anywhere near £11m over two decades, let alone one
