I suppose the 12 NLN clubs calling for an immediate suspension are also tinpot too, yes?

Anyone that thinks this is motivated by league positioning are ignoring the serious health & safety and financial risks faced by clubs.

Calling for a suspension is quite different to self-implementing one before it gets called.

Tinpot definitely funny how team in these leagues are happy to play on in FA cup and trophy when prize money is available.
Darlington have earned nearly 100k from cup runs this season but can’t play on,
Chorley over 250k,
Funny how all teams are struggling.
Slough and Haven’t wanted play offs to go ahead, was their no danger then.

At the moment it seems only N & S clubs want a suspension. Are they prepared to play maybe 3-4 times a week to catch up with all fixtures because i don't think this season will be extended because of the Euros and the FA will want all fixtures completed before then.

Darlington are still in the FA Trophy, with a winnable tie at home. Yet we are still calling for the league to be suspended.

I think the issue has more come to ahead because of the lack of funding now available, and the lack of testing during a national lockdown (which we only entered 2 weeks ago).

Does the decision have to be unanimous between levels? The logical cut off point for where football should stop ‘happening’ is there really, where it reverts from vast majority full time to vast majority part time.

Funny seeing the number of clubs now saying regular testing like the EFL is desperately needed. I remember Ardley talking about this when we had our outbreak, and saying that we’d proposed at the funding meeting that some of the initial grant was used to fund regular testing, and we were basically laughed out of the room.

If the league stops then i presume you will withdraw from the Trophy.

I should certainly imagine so, yes.

Not doing so would be double-standards.

The proposal isn’t as self-serving as being made out.

It took the EFL a few months to sort it, and admittedly it's all being paid for by the PFA as well, so the NL have no chance of sorting it before the end of the season!

Do NL Club's really want to be forking out for twice weekly testing, though?

We’re probably going for option 2 (which wouldn’t have surprised me) however it seems our ever cautious board wouldn’t mind more information

You cancel the season you still have to pay the players - people talk about furlough but can you really see the government rolling over and paying that to the clubs? Not a chance they will. Furlough is for people who can’t work but the government has allowed the NL to continue working.
How can a football club be classed as ‘working’ if it’s main income stream has been cut off through no fault of its own?

Of course furlough can be paid. The only criteria for claiming it is that players can't work while receiving it.

I can see a scenario where most of the NL want to crack on (awaiting a statement from Dover, Weymouth etc call for null and void) but NLN/NLS the majority don't, what happens then? Do NL carry on without relegation? Does the lot go?

It's very tinpot teams refusing to play already, if we do carry on they want points deducting. Not surprising to see the bottom half of NLN voting against playing on, and others nearer the top wanting to carry on. It's hard to play the health and safety card when the split is so obvious, as it was last year.

Infections are falling now will the peak some 3 weeks back which will mean less games off, should be easy enough to finish the season from this point but without the finances in place it’s a tough one. Those who have relegation close by will obviously want to call it off yet we’re last season calling for it to finish regardless of the situation.

It isn’t about league positioning, FFS. There is still 25-30 games still to play!

In fact, in our statement we called for promotion & relegation to be guaranteed!

It’s easy for people to sit and say it’s down to league positioning, on their ivory tower.

It’s clear that the reason for the call of immediate suspension is because of:

1) Lack of testing
2) Inadequate funding that will put clubs at risk.

Have you ever considered that, the lower down you go, the more clubs rely on match-day income & league payments as a % of their annual turnover, thus rendering any loan as funding or future funding cuts as unsustainable?

In 2 weeks time we'll al be under even stricter restrictions, probably a curfew, so this is utterly pointless.

Why? Infections are coming down in most areas. And hospital admissions have plateaued, the peak was 3 weeks ago. Nonsense.
Not to mention it's just been announced the R number is now between 0.8-1.0. WHO also issued guidance 48 hours ago for labs interpreting PCR tests to ensure the number of cycles are reduced, to reduce the sensitivity (which may be driving large numbers of false positives). This may mean the number of cases come down as a result too.

Let’s not get too carried away. The peak of patients in hospital was only on Tuesday, with the patients on ventilation beds figure still rising in the present.

The peak wasn’t 3 weeks ago at all.

Not sure that’s entirely the true picture, the new variant has yet to take hold in much of the north and we’ve had record death rates this week. Hospitals are still very much on their knees too.

The peak of Infections was 3 weeks ago when the new variant took over in the most densely populated areas of the south it topped out at 80,000 infections on the 29th of December. But you’re correct on the ventilation part that will rise still further as might deaths for the next week.

The infections won’t be as high as the areas of the north are not as densely populated, whilst the local rare might be high the actual number won’t be like a few weeks back. Hospitals are on the knees every winter with people who should be In homes or at home receiving care they’re and are now where they should be but are now replaced by covid patients. Days are gone where the old or frail would take up beds for weeks on end.

It's no coincidence those voting for a suspension are in the bottom half and those wanting to crack on are near the top. Like Turkeys voting against Christmas.

I support Chesterfield not Man City so i'm well aware of the importance of having fans in the ground, and there's no chance that is happening this season in my opinion. Nulling and voiding just kicks the can down the road, they need to lobby the government to sort out the funding issue with the DCMS, Lottery or whoever is having their bit of the pie to get involved and help out.

The lack of testing has been common throughout and never been an issue before and the funding has been inadequate all the way through. Boreham Wood have made about 5x more revenue than they do with fans in the ground, it's been a joke and some clubs have been shafted, whilst some clubs have benefited.

I don't agree we should play without funding, I think we need to find a way to get the season finished with a similar support package in play to what was on offer Oct-Dec. There's no reason a package can't be negotiated rather than simply chucking the towel in, furloughing 30 odd staff each and it costing the government more in furlough than it would just give some grants/0% loans anyway.

The current lockdowns aren't working and the government gave the public a final warning this week. That's why.

With the R rate now negative in the south, there is no reason why the new variant would take hold in the north unless people aren't observing the rules as well up there. Which I don't think would be the case.

If the R rate is below 1, which it now is, then we can only assume that the lockdowns are working. The biggest problem right now is poor isolation rates for those who test positive, which is down to zero controls on those people.

I am not sure which final warning you are referring to.
