Is it right that Chester accepted a grant from Flintshire County Council? I've been told this is the case, but could be bullshit. Hard to sympathise with you if so.

Edit: just read above. You can't have it both ways chaps.
We have had more grants from the English side plus we are a community football club so it’s not just about football

ok how does this one grab you?
I generally agree with your posts about Covid. I’m just pointing out that the A & E issue at Barnet General Hospital is not new and that it is structural and existed before Covid.
This just makes the government’s tardiness in vaccinating children and their determination to keep schools open without any modifications all the more neglectful.

Hospitals were in a similar situation in 2016 and 2017 and 2018.... Over 300 were dieing everyday from flu as well.

Didn't lockdown then.

Welsh rules applied to the Deva when the smoking ban came into force in Wales before England, not sure why this should be any different. Chester play in Wales so should really abide by Welsh rules.

I think it's all bullshit to be fair, but I don't think it's right for Chester to play games in front of supporters if we can't.

I'll add that I feel Chester should get a grant from the Welsh Government to keep them in business. They don't deserve to lose out on income simply because they're just on the other side of the border.

MSM haha. No doubt you have better ‘sources’.

Without wanting to derail the ‘is Chester actually in Wales?’ thread… I don’t think this is really about data any more. As far as I can tell, it’s pretty much accepted on both sides of the argument that the individual risk of Omicron is much, much lower than previously due to a combination of vaccination and it being ‘milder’, but it’s transmissible enough that enough people will still become ill to put serious pressure on hospitals.

It’s now a case of whether we’re willing to accept reality or not IMO. The population is vaccinated up to its eyeballs against this and those who aren’t have either caught it already or have chosen to put themselves at risk. In this context, you have to accept that any measures we bring in now are likely to have to be permanent (or at least annual). Which is why England has been right to resist legal restrictions, but the government also needs to accept reality and invest in healthcare capacity and staffing because this isn’t going away.

No they weren’t.
How many people would be dying from Covid if there were no restrictions in place?

It’s pointless comparing it to flu, whether favourably or not. It’s what I meant about denying reality - Covid exists and isn’t going away, so comparing it to what we deemed acceptable from flu is entirely pointless. What society/government needs to do is have a conversation about what measures we’re willing to take to minimise its impact. Ongoing lockdowns/legal restrictions every time cases are going up would be one way of doing that (I’d strongly disagree, but it’s a fair enough position), but people at least need to be honest in that we would be doing that for years at a bare minimum.

And that last sentence is why this has all come about.

A bit of common sense is required to resolve this so I won’t be holding my breath , we both know where the shit stirring which has caused this has come from.

Unfortunately I don't think common sense is a thing anymore!

I'm interested with the situation with TNS. Their ground is wholly in England right? so their situation should be the opposite to Chester but that is patently unfair where one club can have crowds amd noone else can (although Cardiff, Newport, Swansea and ourselves also think the current situation is unfair!)

The whole country should be under the same restrictions- whether that is a lockdown or complete freedom, or whatever inbetween is decided. This situation just highlights that.

Well that would come from Westminster.

Drakeford, Sturgeon etc just buzzing that they can make an important decision. That Drakeford is a proper gimp.

Other countries with devolved legislatures have varying amounts of restrictions. The UK is not alone in this respect.
I haven’t seen anything from Drakeford that makes him particularly gimpy compared to other politicians.

I don’t know if it’s Drakeford personally, but there definitely seems to have been more ‘ridiculous rules and absurd interpretations of them’ coming out of Wales than anywhere else. The Chester thing just being the latest.

The Chester thing isn't a ridiculous interpretation of the rules. It's a little unique given the circumstances around it but it would be a stranger interpretation to not apply the rules to them.

Let's not pretend that it isn't England who are the outlier when it comes to current Covid responses compared to the rest of the world. The Welsh restrictions only look odd because you can travel a short distance away from their border and there are zero precautions in place, which sort of undermines the whole thing.

Has there been any talk on the Wrexham side about the possibility of streaming your home games during the restrictions?

Yes, we have been given the go ahead starting with the Trophy game against Folkestone this Saturday.

Had to move kick off to 5.30pm though as can't stream a game at 3pm under current UEFA rules.

Good stuff, so I should be able to stream our match on the 25th then I'm assuming?

We had secured permission to stream the Boxing day game against Solihull so I suspect we'd be fine for the game with yourselves.

Precedent was set here. The Deva is a contained site with access from England only, if we arrive from England and stay within the confines of the stadium for the game and exit then we will be within an arrangement already agreed by the Welsh Government.
IF (And I don't know) Chester have received any funding from Flintshire Council (Welsh Gov) that applies to Welsh based clubs then this should be followed through and Chester scationed however is appropriate. You can't have your cake and eat it to, and someone should have known enough to check and confirm this.

If they haven't then it's all a bit farcical, it's hard to believe that this hasn't been cleared up a long time ago though, it is not news where the ground lies.

At first read I thought the whole thing was hilarious to be honest, but with a bit of perspective I wouldn't want a fans owned club to take a big hit or possibly go bust as has been reported due to these daft rules even if they were rooting for us to go bust when Covid first hit (A possibility before R+R)....we need to be bigger than them.

The grant was specifically linked to the hospitality trade and aiding covid secure environments and was a UK wide scheme, not Welsh. Funding applications were administered via the licensing (alcohol) authority which is Flintshire. We were entitled to it either way.

Confirmed here that any league games behind closed doors will be able to be streamed.

I think is hoped that we will be out of restrictions by then, the club alluded to it whilst confirming the Folkestone stream (restrictions could be lifted on 14th but too soon to affect Saturday).

Personally think we will still be in them then, Drakeford will try and keep this in place as close the 6 Nations as possible.....He will have to relent by then £££.

There was a report on BBC News the day Brighton were the first to use COVID passports at the AMEX and they said they were checking 10% of the crowd on the way in. Did you see any kind of checks going on?
