There was a report on BBC News the day Brighton were the first to use COVID passports at the AMEX and they said they were checking 10% of the crowd on the way in. Did you see any kind of checks going on?
Saw nothing there are about 8-10 gates for each entry points and the only people there were to help with E Tickets.

Nothing official, but the BBC are reporting that we won't be forced behind closed doors this weekend. Whether that would be the end of it or it's just 'as you were' until a final decision can be made god knows.

Maybe North Wales Police will turn up to stop your fans from entering the ground, and Cheshire Police will turn up to escort the fans into the ground without hassle leading to an almighty scrap.

It should be the end of it - you're a business registered in England, with an English postcode

Yet you carry on going out and attending mass gatherings yourself? “People must stay inside under lockdown as long as it doesn’t involve me”.

Bore off you fucking melt.
I don't know anyone who has literally stayed inside doing nothing tbh.

That ship sailed a long time ago.

My Mum is probably the closest to that (she still goes on walks and occasionally shopping etc) ...yet she still got COVID!

Whilst the rest of the family who have been working throughout as key workers haven't had it yet touch wood.

It just needs a bit of common sense and luck really.

But isn't Chester's postcode officially an English one (ie their official address is England rather than Wales)?
Yeah it is.

Mind you, it looks like not playing behind closed doors actually means the game might be postponed instead or played elsewhere. A bit misleading from the BBC.

Hospitals were in a similar situation in 2016 and 2017 and 2018.... Over 300 were dieing everyday from flu as well.

Didn't lockdown then.
Seeing as only between 26,000 and 29,500 died in 2018 and 2019 that's not true.

300 a day for the winter months would be 27,000 alone

It's almost entirely about luck, if you live a normal life you pick up bugs. Just how it is.
At around 200,000 daily infections over the last few weeks it's hard to claim masks and lockdowns work, what does failure look like if that's success?

Am just quoting the article, besides I doubt it was 300 every single fucking day for the entire 3 months!!

But there isn't mask mandates in England, and there aren't lockdowns anywhere? so how can you attribute the current infection rate to a failure of masks and lockdowns?

Well, I’m guessing the theory was that locking down in the first place would suppress it to a level where it didn’t just come back again. Which was always a bit of a flaw in that plan.

Lockdowns clearly work, that’s just basic logic. They’re just very bad. It’s the dicking about in the middle that Wales and Scotland are doing that I’m not convinced has any real impact.

If Drakeford stops playing politics you'd hope we won't be far behind. I would say things are looking at least a little bit more positive for the Grimsby and Maidenhead home games.

Again, these stats include people admitted for things other than COVID who then return a positive test. More cases atm so these numbers are always going to be higher. Number of people on ventilators stable...
Whether that’s true or not, they still have to be treated with all the protocols of Covid patients. And some will become ill with Covid anyway.

Are people really downplaying all this because they’re worried about whether they can go to football matches or not?

Nobody is downplaying anything, merely pointing out restrictions are doing more harm than good and its time to live with it not hide away from it.

I see the Scottish government have today got rid of the restrictions on outdoor events This after the number of cases per million were higher than England despite England not bringing in those silly restrictions!

I take points on all sides but people who down play people's reasons for not wanting lockdown winds me up a bit tbh.

It's not just people wanting to watch football matches or go to the pub etc. For some it might. But lockdowns seriously effect people's livelihoods and in turn their health. Mentally and physically.

Chester postpone their next match rather than play behind closed doors. Can't blame them.

Indeed. Everyone has something that keeps them going - Wales banning Parkrun, for instance, is absolutely crazy.

Who does like a lockdown? I’ve been called a ‘lockdown fan’ on this thread and been told that I mustn’t have any friends but at no point have I actually said I wanted a lockdown!

The reason no further restrictions were bought in before Christmas in England were nothing to do with the science and were entirely due to political expediency. As a result people have needlessly died, been hospitalised and hospitals have been stretched beyond breaking point. Some people have tried to convince themselves that the pandemic is over, but for those on the frontline that‘s far from the case.

I am not sure there has been a lock down as such in England for a while and I doubt there ever will be one again.

Even more so after yet another report of a lock down party for the Government!

‘The science’ is a fairly non-sensical term at this point. There’s nothing remotely approaching a scientific consensus any more over the best way to approach this.

And I totally agree that the reasons no restrictions were brought in was because it was politically beneficial to the Conservatives. That doesn’t mean it was the wrong decision, just made for the wrong reasons. The fact is that countries who did bring in restrictions - Wales, Scotland, France, Holland etc - are not faring notably better than England is at dealing with this wave.

People haven't needlessly died, they got ill and died during a pandemic, it happens. Bed occupancy is not through the roof nationally, the NHS hasn't been stretched beyond breaking point.
There aren't extra deaths in England compared to Scotland or Wales, for all their faults I'd take the English government over Scotland and Wales this last Christmas.
You are obsessive, you've name called quite a few on here who had the temerity to disagree with you and even now after the infection rate decoupling from the mortality rate you're still obsessing and wanting everyone to do more.
Even Sturgeon has had to lighten up as the facts don't fit hers and your narrative, Drakeford has proven himself to be ridiculous.
Right, I'm off to Kings Lynn and have a night out with a few mates. Up the mighty Pies.
