That is just bollocks. 400 deaths a day, nearly 20,000 in hospital. But you don’t give a shit because it’s not in the Sun or your mate Kev’s Facebook page.

And what’s all this shit about haz mat suits? I think a few extra precautions or restrictions before Christmas would have been a good idea, because that’s what the experts said, not a full lockdown. Why not argue against what has actually been said, rather than the voices in your head?

Actally, scrub that, don’t bother replying, I’m worried some of the brain dead twattery of this thread might be as contagious as corona virus.
Yet you attended a event with thousands of people? Did you wear your haz mat suit?

400 deaths a day or 400 people who happen to die because of a positive test within the previous 28 days.

20,000 in hopsital and half are in there for other major illnesses not due to Covid. Facts from ONS data today.

Like people have said stay lockdown yourself if you’re that worried, those that want to will get on with life will enjoy.

We're two years into the pandemic and people who clearly follow it a lot closer than the average person STILL do not understand data lag and how our reporting works. It's important to look at the date of death not the reporting date (in the same way specimen dates of cases can be more important than the reporting date).

You'll see significantly higher figures on Wednesdays as the reporting figures are backfilled in over the weekend and public holidays. We've had lots of non working days (9 out of 19) where extremely low deaths have been reported as a consequence these are then 'backfilled' in on reporting days.

England hasn't had a single day since February 2021 where COVID deaths on the actual day have exceeded 200 a day. The best way to actually assess deaths is by taking the moving average or at the very least comparing amount of deaths to a like for like reporting day the previous week (which given the Christmas and New Year period) isn't possible for another week until the reporting stabilises.

Finally on your last point, the issue I have with that is that the extra precautions and restrictions were based on modelling which completely dismissed empirical evidence from South Africa on Omicron about it having significantly more 'milder' outcomes. The data inputs you said yourself re the 6000 deaths a day and obscene amounts of hospitalisations turned out to be bollocks. You can make the case that the Tories played their hand on putting weight in the South African data than their modellers, and I wouldn't disagree but now we have the benefit of hindsight it's absolutely true that it was the correct decision. If the models produced showed the outcomes we are experiencing now, there would never have been talk of moving to Step 2 of the lockdown roadmap.

This is what I meant when I was rather crudely saying people have 'rotted their brains'. Most people generally do not have an idea about levels of mortality in this country and how to carry out risk calculations from a policy perspective which isn't helped by a certain set of scientists like Independent SAGE who have realised there is a good hustle out of a never ending pandemic. If you were to be told, pre COVID, that 4 million people (as estimated by the ONS in their latest report) have a virus and it results in 0.2% of people going into hospital. And of those, the majority of them have an average duration in hospital for 3 days that people would say you should only be able to meet 6 people outside and you can't go to a non league football match?

The issue with the 'just the flu' and 'yeah but how many are 'with' or 'of' covid' arguments prior to vaccines is that it wasn't true. Thanks to vaccines these two statements are actually valid - as the wave we are seeing now is the equivalent to a bad flu outbreak which we have had contingency planning for decades; none of which included telling people to meet no more than two households outside in January.

The squeeze on Omicron has been staffing issues and a predictable lack of foresight from a Tory government to ramp up healthcare capacity for a virus which was always going to become endemic rather than be eradicated. That's a separate issue but one we are sensibly tackling by reducing isolation periods in the same way South Africa and the CDC have done. Indeed SA went further by allowing COVID infected clinicians to continue working in their COVID wards, not quite sure on that one, but its a testament to just how different of a wave we are dealing with this time and restrictive NPIs may not have the desired outcome they did with the wild type and alpha.

Restrictions in Wales to be lifted over the next 2 weeks, starting with outdoor events.

There's a chance we'll be able to witness our annual defeat at the Racecourse on 26th February then?

Did the Welsh Government run it by TheEndIsNigh before lifting the restrictions? Or has the soppy little bellend not admitted he was wrong yet?

21st January is the rumoured date for outdoor restrictions to be eased, so all of our home league games should be fine. Only the FA Trophy game at the weekend will fall victim to the current restrictions but I couldn't really care about that.

Son of Cod GTFCfish Gladders get your travel booked for the big game on the 25th!
Cheers mate appreciate that. Unfortunately, I've since budgeted for not going to this opting to get back up for the Alty game tomorrow at BP instead. I was kind of hoping Wrexham away was gonna be streamed from a purely selfish perspective but it's great that you lot and hopefully a decent amount of Town fans can go see it. I can't see it being a massive following though, I suspect plenty of people are in similar positions to myself in that it's all getting confirmed a bit too late to now plan a trip to Wrexham (it was gonna be an overnight job for me). You never know though, the West Yorkshire and Manchester based Mariners do travel well midweek most of the time. If we're both in the same division next season, I'll be making Wrexham one of my top priority away days.

If you bring 400 that'll be more than most. I'll be surprised if the overall crowd isn't above 8000. Under the lights, cannot wait.

I was thinking there'll be at least 500, we've taken four figure followings to Stockport and Alty midweek this season, they're probably the best gauge for this one I reckon although they're a lot easier to get back on public transport for those Manchester/Leeds based Town fans.

‘The science’ is a fairly non-sensical term at this point. There’s nothing remotely approaching a scientific consensus any more over the best way to approach this.

And I totally agree that the reasons no restrictions were brought in was because it was politically beneficial to the Conservatives. That doesn’t mean it was the wrong decision, just made for the wrong reasons. The fact is that countries who did bring in restrictions - Wales, Scotland, France, Holland etc - are not faring notably better than England is at dealing with this wave.
The French who have been reporting numbers of 350,000 cases a day despite less testing than the UK (and a good balancer as the population is almost identical).

Even Germany although reporting (and testing) far less cases has been having similar if not more deaths in recent weeks also.

Its overly difficult to compare nations due to testing variations and measures of how they actually record cases but in this wave I think England has had it relatively spot on. (for once).

1450 tickets sold for Wrexham away already…… :animatedf:
Heard we've reopened the Kop as a way of accommodating the thousands of Grimsby fans descending on North Wales.

Who was the Twat that decided to build the ground in Wales in the first place. There was always going to be a problem of one kind one day.
Land in Chester is very scarce, we were desperate and devolution didn't exist at the time. At the time we were having to travel 80 mile round trips for home games exiled in Macclesfield after being forced out of Sealand Road just up the road from the Deva.

Which produced the oddity that after staging league football for Chester City, Macclesfield Town were refused entry to the Football League in 1995 because of their ground.

Yep, very harsh. We ended up paying them a fair bit over the two years which went towards the improvements to it.

I’ve tested positive for covid today and I feel like absolute death, if this is the milder of all the variants and also after being triple jabbed then I’m fucking pleased I never caught one of the more severe ones.

Sorry to hear that mate, hope you getting better soon. Delta is still kicking around so you might well have that one.

I got it 10 days ago and felt the same after being triple jabbed. Worse than man flu.

My daughter got it first only had one jab and no symptoms!
