Unbelievable. Government have said that plans to stop pilot events are only effective from October 1st, which means that pilot events scheduled to take place this week at at the weekend are still on.

Good spot. That is idiotic and will confuse the messaging even more.

Just spoke to the chairman of a National League side. The league has said it is now not going to start without fans. But furlough ends next month. Which means there is going to be wholesale redundancy for players, coaching staff and administrators. Disaster looms for many clubs.

Sad to hear - the *Government will naturally put health of the people first but hopefully they can find a way to help clubs as they are businesses and people's livelihood's will be lost.

As it's football they probably won't be that bothered though unfortunately.

*Maybe if they had better testing and kept sending out mixed messages the situation wouldn't be so dire.

We've all been able to go to the pub since July - shock horror it's created an increase in numbers as people get more relaxed.

I agree with most of this post but I find the post-election buyers’ remorse very weird. It was very clear pre-election that giving Pifflewaffle a constitutional blank cheque for 5 years would be disastrous for the country.

Not sure how it's weird, there was only ever really going to be one winner (as proved in the results) and it was barely a two horse race. Country needs another party that can compete but thats for another section. The Election was frankly like choosing between a slightly different colour of dog sh1t for dinner. I don't for any minute think things would be different under Corbyn, the fact that Starmer is blindly nodding along to this madness makes it worse.

A compromise at this level could still be possible is my hunch, as long as the test events this week go well. Maybe limited to that 1,000 going forward.

I know we’re in a unique position with our ground, but it seems particularly barmy that we couldn’t have 2 or 3,000 in with the space we’ve got, considering some of the things you are currently allowed to do.

I don't see it because they they're just going to have to do a compromise with League 2 who won't be happy that we have a percentage inside, then League 1 will want a compromise and it continues on up and before you know it we're all back.

They don't care about football but I think we all already knew this, but what a kidney punch this news is today, absolute sickener for everyone.

Going the Merthyr/Guernsey route is probably looking tempting for a fair few clubs right about now.

Did our glorious buffoon just say these new measures are going to be in place for 6 months?

Grim news. Wonder how many clubs will still be in existence in 6 months time? I for one would be very surprised if we are.

That right there is the death knell of lower league and non-league football in this country. Absolutely depressing.

Starmer literally just backed the PM on everything. So much for an "opposition" leader.

Where has this "six months" bullshit come from? It was two weeks yesterday.

As a part time club, Stones don't pay players in pre-season, only when League matches start. So this impasse - whilst still damaging - may not be as damaging for us as it could be for others who have significant financial and contractual commitments.

Even a club like us though will have severe overheads if there isn't a season of football. Stoneshare was about contributing to the playing budget but in light of today's news and with no guarantee of furlough being extended, it will end up being used trying to ensure the club remains in business.

Well, it’s been nice knowing you all. That could be the end of the non league football. What a joke

The FA need to pull their fingers out here, stop asking the government for explicit permission at absolutely every turn and reclassify non-league as non-elite. If the government have a problem with that they they can tell clubs to stop.

They have been utterly useless throughout this entire situation.

You can as the pause on allowing fans back into stadia doesn’t come into effect until 1st October.

Yeah, I thought it was strange that Bath rugby have now stopped fans being allowed into their Premiership game tonight.

For them saving lives will come before saving any sports clubs and the jobs that will go because of clubs suffering.

For NL, NLS and NLN clubs, it literally is as simple as that. Ollie Bayliss reporting on Twitter that it's the FA and the NL who determine whether their leagues are Elite or not. Let's hope for some common sense, there is very little of it about at the moment..

Apparently Bath were told within the last hour or so that they can't go ahead.

Dartford still offering tickets to their friendly tonight. I genuinely don't think the government particularly care about the NL and it's more the FA holding us back at this point.
