Oh goodie, we return to Fortress Gresty Road. Literally can't wait for what is sure to be a feast of football.

We at least will have some bodies back. Kingsley, Haber and Wilson will be available for selection. Kingsley will likely slot straight back in for Baillie, with Turton switching back to RB. We'll also likely have Jones back on the bench so long as he gets through our U21s fixture in the week. Not sure what Davis does with his attackers. Keep 4-3-3? Go 4-2-3-1? Or how about a simple 4-4-2 with both strikers starting? Radical idea I know, but maybe give it a whirl eh Steve? It'll be 4-3-3 though.

As for Gills, fair play to ya. Steadily built a good squad over the last couple of years and it's now one of the strongest in the league this season. Looking very good bets for the play offs at least.

Very tough game this. Gillingham have got goals all over the team and that's without McDonald as well. As we won on Saturday, we can have the obligatory "have we turned a corner" thoughts, only to find out come this game that we haven't. I just don't see us being able to handle Gillingham here. Far too much talent for our stuttering group. We'll lose, could even be a heavy one. Crowd will be low too. Roll on next Tuesday.

Blimey, a Gillingham match thread started more than 24 hours before kickoff? Wonders will never cease.

Despite our pleasantly surprising start to the campaign I still struggle for positivity ahead of games, but this one I'm going for a Gills win, 2-1, so congratulations Crewe, that means back-to-back wins for you.

Be just like Gills to have a good start to the season then go down meekly to the team at the bottom of the table :ffs:

Hope not, but I'd take a 1-1 or 2-2 now.

The away team wins more often than not whenever Gills and Crewe meet in recent times, so on that basis I'll go for a 2-2 draw.

Would be typical Gillingham to lose to bottom of the league but don't think we will
Crewe 0-2 Gillingham

Perhaps if you got Nick Powell back on loan from wherever he is at the moment. Where is he btw?

Still at Man U. But reports suggest he has no future there and he's even become disillusioned with the game. Not that surprising. Seemed to go downhill during his loan spell at Wigan, suffered a number on injuries which have knocked him in more ways than one. Had a number of off field issues it seems. Be interesting to see what happens with him if he does get released.

Such a waste of talent. Doesn't matter how good you are league 2 to United is too big a jump.

Perhaps, but then, we were never going to turn down £3m and he was never going to reject Man Utd was he? Funny thing is, he is far from a spent force. Still in his early 20s, if he gets his act together and goes to a club that will give him regular games, he can still have a good career. I fear he isn't interested though. Probably made enough at United to live like a king for the next decade.

Got to say. If he is ready to quit the game then a return to Crewe, especially in our current state, is hardly going to be high on his agenda. If the quitting football stuff is bollocks then we've more chance of getting a fully fit, 22 year old Dean Ashton back.

Fergie's retirement has put the biggest downer on his career and in hindsight, Man Utd was not the best move for him. Shame as he had/has such amazing potential, just looks like he could be another Seth Johnson/Dean Ashton.

Powell is finished, prefers a beer to playing football. The kid hates playing the game and even tells everyone close to him how much he hates playing it and that it only pays his bills.

Personally I can see him coming back to Crewe...in a coaching capacity some day in the future, definitely not as a player.

Think there's a game on this weekend.

Why'd you have to bring up Nick Powell Cramborne?

Best individual performance since Dean Ashton carried us that was. He just bossed it. Cracking 2nd goal and did all the work for Ajay's too.

That was the moment when I thought the kid could be a bit special.
Always a shame when, for whatever reason, they don't seem to fulfill their obvious promise.

One of my few home games in recent memory, I remember applauding Powell's magnificent strike.

We had a young prodigy who scored in that game too, and soon after he was being tracked by Liverpool and Spurs. He's now at Folkestone Invicta. Funny old game.

Simply to point out that Crewe haven't got that sort of player with that sort of talent anymore (no disrespect to the Alex btw).

To quote Jim Bowen 'have a look at what you could have won'

No 'r' in Camborne FYI Aus :lac:

Got a feeling SD will treat it as an away game and set up with the intent to play on the break. Don't think will work vs a good Gills team

Crewe 1-3 Gillingham (Inman, Dack 2, Egan) 3,866 (318 Gills)

Interesting to see whether Edinburgh sticks with the 3-5-2 that started at Chesterfield, or revert to the 4-1-2-1-2 that we've been playing most of the season. I guess that depends on the quality of Crewe's wide men, as that was the reason we switched to 4 at the back last weekend.

I'd love to see:

Nelson
Egan - Oshilaja - Ehmer
Jackson ----------------------Dickenson
Wright - Dack - Houghton
Donnelly - Norris
But not sure if Oshilaja or Jackson will be available, so swap in Lennon and McGlashan in their place if necessary. Would leave us with a bench of G.Morris, A.Morris, Garmston, Hessenthaler, Loft, McDonald and Williamson. Not too bad.

At the risk of sounding like FIRTHY, I'd hope for a few more away fans than that, 450 would be nice and is eminently achievable

I wouldn't be surprised if we don;t see Oshilaja in a Gills shirt again this season. I hope I am wrong but apparently his injury was worse than thought and he has been having treatment from ourselves and Cardiff. he will not be available for Saturday.
I really think Jackson is the key to the system we play.
If he is fit then we can play the 3-5-2 system with Lennon, Egan and Ehmer at the back and Jackson on the right and either Dickenson or Garmston on the left.
If Jackson isn't fit then the system doesn't work for me as McGlashan just cannot defend and it makes it too easy to get in behind, hence the change at half time last week.
If you play Morris at right back then he is good and solid defensively but isn't the type to get up the wing and the system becomes defensive and lop sided.
Either way with our midfield options and Donnelly on a great run of goal-scoring form I still think we could get something from this.
