Well a win is a win.

Talk about being handed the three points though, we were quite shit for the majority of the game but Palace managed to be worse.

Pathetic.

Penalty or not, we played like we had ten men, absolute joke. Why would you hook off Cabaye when you need to control the game, against ten fucking men? Bizarre sub.

The only highlight is that Zaha had yet another good game, he's showing consistency now.

Definitely not a penalty for me. The idea that any amount of contact is automatically a foul is so wrong, and not how the rule should be interpreted. Your trailing foot getting a gentle touch, not forcing you trip etc, shouldn't be sufficient to be unlawfully impeded.

Drollery this penalty marking. Fall'on the floor trophy worthy.

But, if I used to complain about Dunga not calling Coutinho for br nt before now I have to complain about him not calling Firmino instead of some dubious names. With the right coaching, Firmino is doing very well lately.

I definitely think he could have stayed on his feet. But feeling contact, in the box, 93rd minute, while drawing?

I can't think of a single forward who I'd be sure wouldn't go down in that situation. Of course you crash to the floor hoping for a penalty, it's the obvious and quite uncontroversial thing to do.

Good to wind up Pardew with a last minute controversy and grab the win when a draw was on the cards. Getting one up on Palace for a change.

There was contact, Benteke fell, clear penalty whatever you think about it.

"Klopp's lucky that he wears glasses. My old dear told me never to hit a man with glasses and who am I to go against her word on Mothering Sunday? Any other day I'd have nutted the c*** back to Dusseldorf". - Pardew

Incredibly mediocre performance overall, Palace just managed to be worse.

Milner very silly to get himself sent off but I have no complaints for the penalty. Benteke may have gone down easily but it doesn't stop it from being a foul.

Pardew is reyt funny.

You are kidding, he didn't really say that?

I do love watching Klopp though, he's so enthusiastic about the game.

Always quite liked Pardew, but he looked like he was about to self-combust during the aftermatch interview with Geoff. He didn't even say anything to wind him up or question him.

Don't really get the fuss about that Benteke decision at all, it's not even close to being a dive.

Do people genuinely think that any sort of contact, whether it would be enough to fell the bloke or not, equals a penalty? Sad times.

No but today it wasn't just any sort of contact. It was a clear foul.

Well explained.

If Benteke had tried to keep running and not fall over, would it have made a notable difference to his flow? In full flow a small knock in the right place can undoubtedly floor a guy and it would be a foul, but there's no way in this circumstance he'd be impeded unlawfully with the touch he got on a leg that had just become trailing. It's a sport that allows an acceptable amount of contact, in theory.

I'd like to know why a tiny clip on his left ankle makes his right leg spasm.

Yes it would have made a notable difference. He literally knees (although I will admit it wasn't deliberate) the guys heel, of his standing foot. Was that enough to floor him like that? I don't know about that but you don't have to be running aimlessly like Jesus Navas to be in a full flow. Even if it wasn't enough to floor a guy, it was enough to take him out of his proper shooting or passing position. Stuttering and looking at the ref would never get him a pen but falling usually does.

Official Silkyman translation™ - The player that exaggerated contact this time was not a (Manchester) City player so I am absolutely fucking out-c***-raged.
When was the last time a ref gave a penalty for a foul where the player doesn't go down in the box? Aguero 'made a meal of it', but it was a penalty.

So he didn't give the pen because he thought he got the ball when he didn't, and not because of Aguero's arms.

When did it change from 'there was contact, it was a penalty' to 'not enough contact'?
I swear I did not make this up.

My recollection was the foot was no longer standing when the knee touched it, and that the light brush to it wasn't a swipe that tripped him up via his other leg. Whether he stuttered or went down or not doesn't bother me.

If we're wanting to penalise any brush of contact that interrupts the flow and takes them slightly away from their preferred run, then we penalise every defender for shielding the ball, and every player who dares to quite literally touch another player when a set piece is in play.
