The other nations have definitely caught up but a much better showing last night. Laura Trott will be one of the greatest ever track cyclists by the time she retires, a great showing by Becky James after all her issues and if he wasn't for a returning Ed Clancy just not quite having enough then the Men's Team Pursuit could well have won the gold which is encouraging for Rio. The big disappointment was the Women's Team Pursuit but they were missing Katie Archibald. It won't be the same dominance but I'd say we still have a great chance to leave the track with the most medals.

Some strong performances again tonight, the medal count is increasing. I'm confident we'll win plenty of medals in Rio, even if it's not as many golds as in London.

Also, Laura Trott is currently 40/1 to be SPOTY, seems like good value given that she could become Britain's most successful female olympian.

Not good for Lancaster Pro Cycling, who have collectively blown up after the early-season optimistic break away. From 13th to 35th with the finish of Paris-Nice.

Good whilst it lasted, though remaining optimistic Milan-Sanremo. A Bouhanni and Sagan 1-2 has long been in the plans.

Anyway, more pressing matters are I want/need a new bike after mine was stolen and it doesn't look like turning up again. Scouting round, I'm thinking a Boardman Road Team Carbon but I may just be being a sucker for the words Boardman and Carbon. It is also one Halfords have and whilst I'd love to go independent, 10% off with British Cycling is a little useful.

Anyone know anything about actual bikes? Sub £1k ones?

I bought my first road bike just over a year ago so I did lot of research then. Your budget is bit more than mine was, but I do remember that all the Boardman range got consistently positive reviews. That Boardman Road Team Carbon looks great value to my inexpert eye.

Superb ride from Démare, I thought he was out of the running after that big smash earlier. Gaviria looked nailed on until he fell - not only is he in my fantasy team but I had a significant bet on him to win today. I'm never gonna get over this.

Volta a Catalunya starts tomorrow and the mountain stages could be brilliant - Froome, Quintana, Contador, Aru and loads of other climbers are all involved.

It was a big group still together at the Poggio but a 21 year old Gaviria being right at the sharp end after the best part of 300km is no joke, is it. He's only just come off the track as well.
