I see St Johnstone are still making hard work of their Armenian opponents. Level on agg with 20 to go but now against 10 men.

And St Johnstone scored late on but lose on away goals. Shocking result really. Aberdeen scrape through.

I watched both legs of the Aberdeen game. They are through 1-1 on away goals, after a 0-0 tonight. Both games were pretty dull. Most people expected an easy win, as last year they beat Daugava Riga 8-0 in the first round, but this was a totally different prospect. The Macedonians had a few internationals, plus a few Brazilians, and look like they have some funding behind them.

Going through is really all that matters, especially given what happened to St Johnstone. Rijeka of Croatia next.

Edit: The best bit about the game was watching the seagulls. About every 5 seconds a new seagull would fly past where the camera was. I thought Jonny Hayes was going to square it to this one.

Poor set of results for the British teams overall. Linfield and Aberdeen through with underwhelming results. I guess the big story is Newtown of Wales beating Valletta to get themselves a tie against FC Copenhagen. Should be a great experience for them.

West Ham will face Birkirkhara FC of Malta next who beat Ulsses of Armenia 3-1. A team who hadnt previous scored a goal in Europe. So not a massive increase in quality then!

Knew this had to be wrong as soon as I saw your post, as Birkirkara are one of Malta's most experienced sides in European football, though admittedly, that is not saying much! But had to check as I thought your 'have never scored' claim was a bit odd. Turns out I was right :cool1:

Hi mate. Sorry my post wasnt clear. I wasnt referring to the Maltese side. I was referring to Ulsses of Armenia who hadnt previously scored until their tie in Europe.

Ah! Don't know anything about the Armenians as I think they only started qualifying for Uefa comps these last few years. It's sure getting hard to keep up with all the European sides playing in the UEFA comps nowadays, especially in the Europa League, as there are more sides taking part than ever!

I don't expect Birkirkara to trouble WHU, but I have no doubt at all that they're stronger than the Andorrans. For starters, I think the top Maltese sides are a mixture of semi-pros and full pros. OTOH, players with Andorra's football clubs are all part-timers, just like the San Marino and the Faroe's ones.

Looking at Birkirkara they've got an Italian influence with the manager Tedesco, remember the name from the Football Italia days. Also they have a 36 year-old Miccoli, who I think was in the Palermo team that knocked us out of Europe the last time we participated.

Aberdeen are playing away in Rijeka, Croatia tonight. They are looking to make it to the group stages for the 3rd year in a row, so are a pretty good side. Hopefully it will be like the Groningen game at this stage last season, and Aberdeen will benefit from not being favourites. The two first round performances were appalling, and throw in the final month of last season, and it's been a while since they've played well, which is a worry.

Aberdeen 0-1 up at Rijeka. Big step towards a great result there.

Linfield also doing well in Slovakia. 2-1 down but the opposition down to 10 men. If they keep it like that they'll still be in with a chance back at Windsor.

0-0 at Upton Park at H/T. Gotta be a floodgates job there, surely?

A few good defeats if there is such a thing as Newton of Wales only lose 2-0 in Denmark v FC Copenhagen.
UC Dublin only lose by 1-0 to an 86th goal v Slovan Bratislava. Very decent efffort/
Linfield held on to take an away goal in a 2-1 defeat against Trnava.

Aberdeen now lead 2-0 but Shamrock have conceded at home to Odd of Norway.

WHU seem to be underwhelming again and Inverness are behind.

Great result for Aberdeen. Poor from West Ham really, but they'll go through.

Disappointing for Cally Thistle, they look like heading out.

For the first ten minutes, Aberdeen were on the back foot, just looking to hold on. The Croatians hit the post from about 3 yards with the goal gaping and it looked like being a long evening.

After that, they suddenly found their feet and it just got better and better. By the end they were totally dominant and in charge of the game. This is against a side that has made the group stage 2 years in a row, and had only lost once in 52 home games. Sevilla couldn't win there last year, and they won the whole thing. From being awful in both legs of the first round tie, from nowhere the Aberdeen team of the last two years came back.

Goodwillie had his best game in an Aberdeen shirt. Ward looked solid in goal, and Graeme Shinnie is just a superb footballer. It's been an ideal summer for Aberdeen - no players out and strengthened the two weak positions, in goal and left back. They look good to push Celtic again on this form.

Southampton vs Vitesse will be interesting what with Brown and Baker being there.

Pretty funny to say on the evidence of the last game it won't be a walkover either...

Although I did have a dream last night that we won this game, but lost the first leg of the next round 2-1. Definitely putting some money on that.
