Lovely finish that, pretty terrible error by the Portsmouth centre back. Portsmouth not really got any tempo going so far.

Herefords ground hasn't changed from when we last played them 15 years ago!
Not the most exciting game to be honest though

Definitely got an old school feel to it. When we last went there half of it looked like it was close to being condemned but the old club had fallen on some very hard times by then.

I guess they couldn’t do much due to going bust and having to re form .

Hereford did well 1st half but Portsmouth quality and fitness told after the break .

Tried to forget that one! We were a league above as well and had only a couple of weeks earlier come close to knocking Spurs out the league cup at WHL.

Awful day.

The Exeter game tomorrow ironically opens some old wounds! Smurf roasting Page by the touch line at full time, going on the coach apparently telling fans he was toast and claiming he felt he had a heart attack in the stand, then he completely lost the plot and got rid of everyone despite a decent league season and went on the YouTube foreign experiment… which of course has taken until this season to finally repair the damage!

Hoping we don’t embarrass ourselves two years running on the BBC

Don’t look like your typical NPL team South Shields. Move it around quite tidily.

Could well see South Shields in the National League within two to three seasons, they're a cut above any sixth tier team I've seen recently. And they're still seventh tier....

We're dominant, but a bit short on goals, so, hmm, it could all go wrong yet

South Shields starting to ask a couple of questions of FGR now. Should mean there’s chances for FGR on the break.

Yeah with March on we’ve now got some pace up top which could help with them pushing forward.

What has happened to Jamille Matt? A shadow of the player he was last season.
Not losing much sleep over ex-Scummer Alessandra failing to fire

Matt's form fell away from the second half of last season and has been out injured a lot this one - I reckon one consequence of Rob Edwards' approach of playing essentially the same players in every league game. Ebou Adams and Kane Wilson have been out injured a lot this season too at their new teams, maybe as an after-effect. We just didn't have enough players to intelligently rotate them.

Is Matt Stevens close to being back from injury for FGR? Think he’ll be almost like a new signing when back.

Burchnall said Stevens should be back by January. Not sure what to expect of him, overall: he was really on fire last season, but his early time with us was more disapppointing

7 changes, Wilson and Harrison injured is a blow but hopefully not serious. Exeter get the boost of us playing one kid up front again so Mipo with Politic.

Connor Wickham out of contract in January. Just got that bit harder to keep him I reckon.

Looking at the line up vale have picked today we are treating it as a pizza trophy match and giving players who haven't played much game time. If that's what we are aiming to do then I suppose they will be happy if it goes to a replay as Clarke likes to give game time to all his squad members.

Vale without Wilson & Harrison is massive.
Would take a replay to be honest

Interesting selection from us. I make it 9 missing and 6 changes from Tuesday night.

No Rushworth (concussion protocol despite not being concussed?!) so a second choice 'keeper, Diamond and Garrick presumably cup-tied, no senior striker so 17(?) year old Draper starts up front and only 6 subs with no attacking players on the bench at all - all defenders or defensive midfielders.

No Rushworth, Walsh, Diamond, Hopper, House, Garrick, Mandroui, Benn and Montsma with Jackson and Virtue on the bench.

Obvious Wilson was a bad tackle so didn’t expect that he’d play today but Harrison is the worry, if it’s a knock and we don’t risk him then in 100% happy with that as today isn’t as important as Oxford next weekend but if he is out for a period that would be a huge knock.

Only bonus is I guess that we won when we rested them both a few weeks ago and Dennis does love the cup!
