Tbf DSL has a point. Lincoln out and Whitehawk, a club with no fans at all, through. Don't agree with him re Welling though, they only played Barwell.
Also, Alfreton are massive compared to some other sides like Chesham and Whitehawk.

EDIT - I forgot to add that I respect Alfreton fans mainly because it's so easy to support Forest if you live in that area. Same goes for fans of other sides who have big clubs on their doorstep. You all know who these clubs are.

Alfreton aren't massive compared to Chesham, they brought 500 odd to Bristol Rovers today. Would Alfreton have took that many? Home gates aren't a lot smaller, in a lower league.

Similar size I'd say.

Only because it was their cup final Chris. Look at the crowds they get for home league games.

Fair enough I suppose.

Doesn't mean people should begrudge them their big day though. Nothing wrong with small clubs doing well imo.

Not so keen on Steve King btw, so would have preferred Lincoln to win that one.

Sure, and I wish them all the luck. The "but Rovers have a poor home record" excuse doesn't wash with me.

Edit - " I'm thinking Alty, Brackley, Fgr, Eastleigh and Aldershot all have a chance of making the second round, or earn a replay at least."

Football expert or what? :pond:

That's unfair, Chesham is only in Buckinghamshire. Alfreton fans were class last game of last season.

Nah, no excuses for that. They had the game of their lives and we were shite, but we should still beat a 7th tier side.

You'll laugh, Chesham were better than any team I saw last season. Desire and determination was ridiculous for 90 minutes.

Anyway, at least we're better than Crewe, Notts and Lincoln. We don't lose to bankrolled teams, we lose to proper tinpot non-league sides.

You mean small, rich man's playthings that act as a prosthetic dick extension. I guess in that sense yourselves and Whitehawk are quite similar, so I can understand the empathy I guess.

We're never going to have the same opinion on this, we're in different circles club-wise apart from briefly sharing the same division currently.

Your always talking like you support a proper club. But you support Alfreton, who are just as small and tinpot as all the other tinpotters.;)

Well done to those teams, nice to see smaller clubs getting through and getting some much needed income. Imagine Boreham Wood v Liverpool and Whitehawk v Man Utd in the third round. Would be amazing to see.
I don't pretend Alfreton to be a "proper club" and I am openly honest that we are tinpot. However, Whitehawk take the biscuit, Not a fan of Welling and Northwich Vics shouldn't even be in the competition.

Massive Congrats to Chesham. Superb stuff!!

Not only Forest and Derby but Chesterfield, Notts Co, Mansfield and even Ilkeston and their absolute bargain admission prices compared to our £14 to see utter shite.

You can call us all you like but we were regualry achieving crowds of between 900-1200 in the first 6 months in the Conference Premier.

What absolute killed us is that Wayne decided to up the Admission prices from £12 to £18 pretty much overnight which alienated a large chunk of our new found support. He wont admit it but we are still the suffering the consequences of that move even now.

We're not that similar to Whitehawk, who would be nowhere near where they are without their owner. We were already a decent sized and established top flight non league club, but have had a large cash injection following a takeover.

In that sense we're more like Man City, Chelsea or Crawley, (just a little bit more tinpot obviously).

Good fight-back from Brackley and a late equaliser for Maidenhead, along with Chesham's win at Bristol Rovers made for some decent results against league opponents.

Nothing against Braintree, but hoping they don't win their replay at Oxford as the second round clashes with our home game with them.

Shame Whitehawk are a rich man's plaything, or it might have been worth borrowing one of their forwards, who, unlike Rovers, can score against Lincoln

I would have thought it was much easier to support Derby as Alfreton is in Derbyshire & nearer to Derby.

Disagree.

When we were newly promoted to the Conference North in 2004/5 we drew Macclesfield at home in the cup. The gate 2,800. In the replay we took 707 to Moss Rose in our "cup final"

Correct. I know Alfreton is in Derbyshire so don't know why I said Forest. Probably because I watched Friday's game on the box and Forest won ;) Or it could be because DSL watches/ used to watch Forest matches I think (?)

Yes I did. Although I has also watched Derby a few times too. My Dad is from Nottingham and has a soft spot for Forest so he regularly took me to Forest when I was younger.

I've always preferred Forest over Derby, though I don't take that much of an interest in either the PL or the Championship. I think it's safe to say I've only watched something like 3 PL games and 4/5 CHP ones so far this season. But yeah, I would rather see Forest make the PL than County, though I reckon they have more chance of going down with the way things are going! Still, they put in a decent performance on Friday, and deserved the 3 points.

You won't go up, and I'll have a wager of any amount to this end with you.

What, ever?

I'd stick a grand on us going up before you do, but not on it being this year. We're actually not that good.

That being said, I've stuck quite a bit on you to make the play-offs so it could get interesting if both teams are in there.

FEED THE RHEAD!

Imagine Marvelous Matt getting 20 before New Year. Scenes.

EDIT - How a team can go from keeping 7 clean sheets in 10 or whatever it was to being so shambolic is incredible.

My favourite part of the BBC's coverage today was Jason Mohammed with a straight face saying "There's a wonderful story developing if you're a Whitehawk fan."
Their biggest game ever & they didnt even come close to selling out

What a tinpot club :ffs:

Gotta say I'm a bit disappointed we didn't go on to win today - Bradford were very ordinary and we had all the play first half, just couldn't find the back of the net.
Congratulations to Chesham, what a win for them!
At least we'll be in the hat tomorrow but I fear we are going to get stuffed in the replay. Let's hope I'm wrong.

A Lincoln player gets a hat trick in the cup away from home for the first time in 120 years and we still lose thanks to some truly terrible defending.
Can't believe the beeb are calling it an upset....
Mind if you insist employing Kevin Kilbane as an expert no surprise really.
