Nobody likes us, we don't care.

While we're at it. If anyone can spare any cash, we're about £5k away from our target for frost covers. Please give generously.

Frost covers don’t stop games being postponed for frozen pitches if temperatures drop to minus two or below. They’re actually pretty pointless and cause more harm then good to grass, but keep donating.

Gillingham
Gillingham Football Club LTD (Company Reg 00039175) claimed in a 6 month period somewhere between 300 and 600k. Now bear in mind these figures are for a short period where HMRC is making this data available (Dec 2020 - Jul 21) the actual total amount claimed must be six figures plus.

Do you really believe this amount of money only went on "non playing staff"? Even if that was the case, do you think its right and moral to castigate other teams considering the huge amounts of taxpayer money propping up shit clubs like Gillingham despite other revenue streams being made available? Especially when its very likely they claimed a fraction of what Gillingham did.

Thanks for playing.

Who's next?
We have quite considerable non-playing staff and the vast majority were furloughed, it’s quite easy to see how that would add up quickly to over £300k. We took an EFL covid loan to cover squad costs which we are currently paying back, until it’s paid back we’re under a transfer embargo.

So no. We weren’t using furlough money to pay players, let alone bring new ones in.

Sounds like you need some new ones....

So in conclusion what we knew before was that some clubs used the furlough scheme to pay their non-playing staff as per the intended manner, some clubs didn't use it and Chesterfield played the system and used it to improve their squad. However following this shock exposé from WhoWasFone what we now know is that some clubs used the furlough scheme to pay their non-playing staff as per the intended manner, some clubs didn't use it and Chesterfield played the system and used it to improve their squad.

Unless you acquire an itemised bill from HMRC for each club, we've no idea which employees were put on furlough (because, apparently this matters hugely?). Literally the only thing you can go on is how much in total was claimed through the scheme, and when. It's all conjecture otherwise, you're just guessing x club must be more morally superior (wouldn't mind working behind the concorse bar at Gillingham if they can run up 600k in half a year in non playing staff wages, jeez). Not a soul also knows what any money was then used for, at any club do they.

I would argue there's zero evidence we used it to improve the squad. We'd have improved the squad regardless, it needed doing. James Rowe has made like 20 signings, but we only managed to get THESE 2 in particular because we saved on a handful of fringe players wages for a few weeks?! It's absurd.

Literally does not matter though tbh. This frothing at the maw/pretending to give a shit, from clubs who used the same scheme, to an even greater extent in a lot of cases is like.... OK?

I really don't care about it all, I was merely pointing out that this thread doesn't really offer anything additional. If Chesterfield did find a loophole then fair play to them, overspending of any kind is always a risk though and that's where my concern would have been if I was a Chesterfield supporter.

Without really going into it or looking back at past threads though, it seems like you did a bit of shopping at the back end of last season (could be wrong on that) that you might not have done in a standard season, which could have been as a result of the whole COVID/furlough situation but again it's not something I'm personally arsed about.

You have to be pretty dense to think that ‘non-playing staff’ refers to a few teenagers working behind a bar on a match day.

Of course you dont care, Grimsby Town claimed £300k more in furlough payments that Chesterfield FC did yet you accuse them of finding the loophole.

Ok PuB which roles in particular impact on the playing side not one iota, and can run up of this kind money. A period by the way it seems Chesterfield FC claimed nothing. Is there a nice view up on that moral ivory tower of yours?

Yeah, we still had John Fenty in charge. We furloughed fucking everyone mate, that was in the media when it happened, you don't need to include us in your big reveal thread.

I'm not sure this thread has had the desired effect you were hoping for has it?

Firstly this is a conversation for the grown ups not fans of teams who are playing at pub league levels.

Secondly, how is me pointing out hypocrisy not the exact point of this thread. How are teams claiming what must be millions in furlough payments realistically going to claim its only office staff affected?

Teams like Mansfield, Leyton Orient and Gillingham et al are taking the piss out of the taxpayer. They are a disgrace when compared to clubs who clearly can manage on similar revenue streams.

Why are you annoyed at me and not the teams taking the piss using our hard earned tax money?

A large reason we went down was because of the massive penny pinching.

Stockwood said the other week the accounts for the last FY look like showing a small profit as one thing the previous regime did well was keep the finances in check.

Yeah no shit, not spending any money (and hoping the season would just get cancelled) is the reason we got relegated and the club was in a shit state on and off the pitch but hey at least Fenty made a small profit!

Because Chesterfield also took the piss, moreso than any other team in this league?

all the teams you have listed below are League teams

publish a list of all of the NL teams and thats a starting point for the same discussions that we have had in this forum for the last 9 months

I've already listed some you remedial, hello Grimsby? The Dagenham fan admitted furlough money was used on players. Hollywood Wrexham used furlough money at the same time Chesterfield didnt. Wrexham using tax payers money is taking the piss. You should be ashamed yet you come after me.

Don't be mad at the guy who turns the mirror in your direction.

Wrexham furloughed players and didn't even make up the difference, they had to make up the difference later.

Wrexham have lost all credibility in this argument.

Hello Chesterfield! We were in the league in December 2020 when your date range starts.

Also, are you going to post any links to this data?

Ha! I'm not the one desperately trying to convince everyone that my club didn't play the system like a fiddle while the entire nation suffered.

Does someone else want to tell them or should I?

Also do you not see why this issue needs to be challenged?

Not the entire nation. Plenty of Tories and Tory pals did very well. And this gormless country teeming with fuckwits will vote them in next time. In fact blame them for making it so easy to exploit the system.

There's a 35mb ODS file in the link above listing all the claims and the amounts from December 2020.

Didn't realise Rishi Sunak mentioned there was an embargo on bringing players in during the furlough situation.

Can't wait for someone to tell the Chezzie fans that by the time we get to Jan their glamour tie at Stamford bridge will either be behind closed doors or open only to those without a pocket full of Kleenex ;)
It's the law of Bojo.

Anyone still following Bojo's rules need to get their heads checked. If the pr1ck can't follow his own rules I'll be damned if I am.
