Of all the shows returning in 2015, this is probably the one I am most excited about.

I wish GRRM would hurry up and finish book 6 though.

I keep telling myself that there will be news on the new book soon, and keep getting disappointed when there isn't

Me too. I'm relatively new to the series (only discovered the books and the show last year) so haven't even been waiting that long but it's still hugely frustrating.

I don't want to be in a position where the show is further along the story than the books.

Only watched the first 3 series but getting series 4 on boxset when it comes out next month I think?! Will be easily done by time Series 5 appears. Like already mentioned I can't wait, probably the most eagerly awaited series on TV this year.

I think (hope!) that the next book might creep in just before the end of the year

If it doesn't then the tv series will surely overtake the books. I think we'll see the ending on the screen rather than the page anyway but I'd at least like to get one more book out before it is overtaken.

I'm hoping that WoW's being timed for the end of this season, would make good sense marketing wise to bring it out just as the show catches up.

Even then it'll have been 2 years since I finished DoD, it's too long! Re-read them all twice already in that time, and probably will again before this season

Book 6 coming out just as season 5 finishes would be great. Sadly, I reckon it'll be a Christmas release so even more waiting.

I shouldn't imagine this season will cover both books any

Surely it will be at least 2 seasons before we catch up.

Yeah I think that may be wishful thinking on my part, sadly.

On another note, do people think they'll catch up with the books this season or split what's left over 2? All the noises seem to suggest they're splitting it but I'm not sure there's enough in the way of content for them to do that and keep up the same quality. I mean I still loved it but Feast for Crows in particular was hard work!

Well, we've already caught up with Bran.

The showrunners are also reportedly cutting a lot of things (no castings for JonCon, Young Griff, Greyjoy Brothers, Quentyn, Arianne etc) so I imagine the show will have caught up with nearly every character come the end of season 5.

It's a difficult one because of the books running side-by-side, rather than two separate, chronological novels. Personally, I think they'll squeeze both Feast and Dance into one season and cut a lot of things.

That would suggest they won't be catching up this season though I'd have thought. I mean they can't just completely cut out JonCon and Young Griff when they're going to be crucial to the story

We arent completely there with bran

I think they'll add some things to make it more interesting and make it last 2 seasons. I wouldnt be surprised if this next seasons finale or penultimate episode has some dramatic moments the books never had.

They want to get it wrapped up in 7 seasons don't they? All of Feast and half of Dance in this one, Second half of Dance and Winds in the next one with the final book in the final season. Seems like they'll have to cut a lot to get it all in but that seems to be what they are/were planning on doing.

I'd prefer it if they did this. In terms of what actually happens there's not really more than a book's worth, and I worry the quality will suffer if they try to pad it out. But at the same time maybe they know they need to drag it out a bit to avoid overtaking the books? It's a tough one

If they do it in 7 seasons there is no chance the books will be finished in time.

I'd love it if they flesh out some of the backstory, some flashbacks to Robert's Rebellion maybe

We're not sure how crucial to the story they are yet though. If, as suspected, Young Griff is the
mummer's dragon
then they may just decide not to include him, so as not to confuse show viewers.

I don't know, it's still a major plotline, and a major part of Tyrion's storyline, I'd be disappointed if they cut it out.

To be fair, they've credited the TV audience with a lot of intelligence so far, it's part of what's made the show such a success. Although I was amazed when they cut Lady Stoneheart, so who knows.

I just think a lot of people are going to bed left disappointed. Arianne and Quentyn are both fairly crucial parts of the Dorne masterplan yet seemingly haven't been cast, yet the other Sand Snakes and Trystane have. I think we'll see a lot of merging characters and plotlines together.

It's inevitable they'll have to condense a fair bit given the bloated nature of the books. I can see how they might be able to cut Arianne and split her role among the Sand Snakes, but Quentyn would be a big loss - if only for that awesome scene near the end!

It's not without precedent though for them to omit a character from the original cast list only to have him turn up in the show anyway... fingers crossed!

I hope so. Was so pissed when the credits rolled at the end of S4, that would've made the perfect finale!

I hated Lady Stoneheart in the books so her being cut is fine with me.

Halfway through A Feast for Crowd and still enjoying it. Hoping to be completely up to date with the books by the start of season 5.

I'm not sure if I'll watch the show from now on due to potentially spoiling the books. I'll probably end up watching as it'll be difficult to avoid, anyway.

Didn't enjoy S4 as much as the other seasons although it wasn't bad. The Tyrion/Tywin ending was pretty anticlimactic.

Edit - Oh, and the lack of LS.
