Maybe I'm missing something but didn't they pledge to recruit an extra 50,000 nurses, 5,000,000 extra GP appointments per year, £34bn extra funding for the NHS per year, 40 new hospitals, free hospital parking etc.? You can never fully trust any manifesto of course, but it doesn't sound too bad, without being completely outside the realms of possibility either.
Well those hospital builds & nurses have already been shown to not stand up at all.

Well kinda. The 50,000 new nurses included 18,500 that they want to persuade from leaving the profession, so 31,500 even if you don't count them. They're definitely playing fast and loose with the hospitals claim though, they've only budgeted for the seed money to get those projects started.

But that’s a huge difference, 35% roughly?

In 2015 the Tories campaigned to train 5,000 additional GPs by 2020. Its end of 2019 and there are actually fewer GPs. Unfortunately when it comes to healthcare, I don’t believe the Tories, never mind Boris, at all

Which cuts are you referring to? Because as far as I can tell the only time the NHS budget has ever deceased in real-terms is under Labour in the 70's and in it's infancy under the Tories in the 50's. Even during the economic crisis it only ever stagnated. There are admin issues no doubt, but it's not a money problem.

The whole issue of the NHS is a curious one. As a politician you can't ever really come out and downplay the problem because it's an emotive issue and lives are on the line, but the truth is that our health service performs about as you'd expect for a developed nation, and leagues better than some. According to the WHO we perform roughly on par with Canada, Germany, Australia, Sweden etc. yet we behave like we're in a constant state of crisis.

Probably the cuts of police force, GP's & schools? My mum is a head teacher and the sh*t they make them go through is a disgrace.

Regarding NHS, it may perform ok but it's also the worst it's been in a while as well & it's only getting worse. Leaving the EU will make that worser still.

Jezza has played a bit of a blinder today in fairness to him. Instead of people talking about that car crash interview with Andrew Neil, the talk is all about that 451 page document from May's tenure and whether it shows that Boris wants to sell off the NHS or not. It doesn't of course, but for him I suppose it's much better than people talk about something so stuffy and ambiguous even if they're refuting it, than him refusing to apologise for anti-Semitism or dodging a question about his love affair with Britain's enemies.

Yet somehow it’s not even on the BBC website..

I have to say, I really respect the BBC and use them as the source of a lot of my information, but some of their info has been so pro-Tory it’s frankly disgusting

I have come to the conclusion that I want Larry the number ten cat to be PM ahead of Boris and Jeremy.

By the way, I think Rees Mogg is playing a campaign blinder - total silence.

Yougov's MRP model, which successfully predicted the 2017 results in 93% of the seats (even Canterbury and Kensington) ten days before the election, is out on Wednesday night. If that shows a big Tory majority I might worry.

Does 68 qualify as worryingly big?

Con 359 (+42) Lab 211 (-51) Lib Dem 13 (+1) SNP 43 (+8) Plaid 4 (-) Green 1 (-)

If that is accurate and doesn't change it's not good for Labour. Shows labour gain zero seats and their lowest number since 1983.

Bear it mind though it shows around 60ish seats within a few points so still all could change.

Swinson also in danger of losing her seat

I also said I might dismiss it as propaganda.

On the plus side, this year they have released it ten days earlier, and the direction of travel does seem to be in Labour's favour in other polls. Hopefully it won't be quite that bad but Brexit does seem to have demolished Labour's prospects.

Wouldn't that be a shame.

Give that guy a cigar.

Maybe it's because Tory rule decimated South Yorkshire in the 80's and this set of lying scum have had 9 years of doing their very best to make it worse.
I'll never understand why working men vote Tory, but each to their own eh.

I've never voted Tory, but if it were between them and Labour in Rotherham it would probably be an easy choice, especially if I had daughters to worry about.

Oh the old Rotherham grooming scandal, that's unique, never hear that from the away fans.

Of course it didn't happen anywhere else in the country did it?

Grooming young kids is a disgusting thing, it deserves to be taken far more seriously than trying to score points on a football forum.

Says quite a lot about you though.

I think EG was taking it seriously, in which case it’s a fair point, no? The point about it happening around the rest of the country is irrelevant as he specifically referred to you voting in Rotherham. It’s an awful topic but one which needs to be confronted rather than avoided.

FWIW, the projected majorities are below 5% in at least 30 of the seats allocated to the Tories. YouGov has suggested that a nationwide 6-8% swing towards Labour could wipe out the majority entirely.

If I were a Tory strategist, my main concerns would be (1) the 11th hour surge in voter registration, which you’ve already mentioned; and (2) the possibility of Labour taking a decent chunk of the Lib Dem vote (currently at approx. 15%) as we get nearer to polling day and more centre-left Remainers realise that voting for the Lib Dems is basically a waste of time.

Still reckon a hung parliament.

P.S. YouGov are aiming to do another MPR poll much closer to the election.

No he wasn't, he was using it to score points in a political discussion.

It did happen in many other places but he chose to name just one because it suited his agenda.

Nobody in Rotherham is avoiding this issue all right minded people want to see the scumbags who were responsible punished.

What is this 'points scoring' you refer to? Because it reminds me a lot of gun advocates in the US bleating that people should 'stop politicising it' every time someone shoots up a school. As for right-minded people, I think many of them would look at how many Labour councillors had to resign, how many council staff said they were afraid to speak up because of the ethnicity of the perpetrators (who represent 84% of all grooming gang members) and the fear of being branded racist and maybe put two and two together.

You just shared a meme about working class Tories being akin to turkey's voting for Christmas. It seemed ironic for someone from Rotherham who votes Labour making this argument. That's why I only mentioned Rotherham. I would have thought that was obvious.

You're right that it happened elsewhere though. It also happened in Rochdale under a Labour council, Oxford under a Labour council, Huddersfield under a Labour council, Bolton under a Labour council etc. A coincidence no doubt.

Well you are right about the Turkeys that for sure.

You are also right about Labour councillors resigning rather than facing the music. Those that chose to ignore the whispers are equally guilty of allowing these monsters to carry out these terrible crimes.

Thankfully most of these people have been rooted out, though I suspect a few will have managed to stay under the radar.

I still fail to see what this has to do with anyone's decision regarding voting for Labour on National issues.

It's quite simple really, Labour has better policies, especially for the North of England that always suffers the most at the hands of Tory rule.

Sure they say they are going to spend money on the NHS and other neglected services. My question would be, why haven't they bothered for the last 9 years?

As I said in my first post on this thread, people will vote for who they want, that's their right and I doubt very much that it's possible to alter entrenched views.

I wouldn't waste my time trying TBH.

Far less to do with the ethnicity of the perpetrators than the contempt of the police and council for young working class girls with so-called "chaotic" lifestyles. That you buy the police's post-hoc excuse of PC gone mad doesn't make it actually true.
