Would take Palmer as our 2/3rd choice striker but would be very underwhelmed if we don't find anybody better to go with him and Pittman. Palmer linked up very well with the now departed John-Lewis and while he did actually have a spell with Pittman in which they both looked good, it's still not a good enough strike force, not even close.

Palmer would easily get 20 with a full season, no doubt about that.

I agree though, we do need a top striker for this level. Its whether Hurst can get him in, we've never replaced Hearns goals.

I'd be underwhelmed if Palmer was our big signing too. Could quite easily see him going the way of Hannah, scoring lots while on loan but disappearing once under contract. Apart from the goals he scored he wasn't that impressive, if he went through a dry spell he wouldn't bring a lot to the side imo

Which is exactly what every fan of pretty much every club says, every season. Truth is, especially at this level, that having a quality manager makes far more of a difference then any player will.

It will be very interesting to see who this money goes towards signing, and how much of a difference they actually make.

Akinde at Barnet?

Not denying Allen is a good manager (in the short term anyway, maybe he'll prove me wrong this season in his effect long-term) but Akinde was a huge part of how Barnet played last season. An exception rather than the rule, but if that one player suits a system very well and provides quality and goals, of course it makes a difference.

No but you need to sacrifice having a player like that imo. I know Hurst doesn't like doing it but he needs to I think, I'd rather have a 30 goal striker who did nothing for 16 other games rather than a striker who 'worked hard' for 46 with less results.

Palmer wouldn't score 30, and I didn't say I wouldn't want Palmer either, I just hope he is not our main signing and striker we need somebody better if we want to win the league.

Aye me neither, the point is I think this 'more to his game than just goals' ethos for signing strikers has been tried and it hasn't worked.

Fantastic effort so far by the fans of Gy and what they've raised to go towards the playing budget. A Lincoln fan set one up on crowd funding yesterday half tongue in cheek with a target of a quid. Well with no pushing its got to nearly 600 quid in less than a day so think that could be getting pushed a bit harder. All after City fans raising 164k in shares and bonds in April. Great fan power being shown in Lincs.

It wasn't a criticism, more an observation of the behaviour and psyche of football fans.

Very few businesses will be able to get their customers/patrons to raise a load of money to bring in an extra member of staff or two on higher then average wages, who in the grand scheme of things are near the bottom of their profession ability wise, especially when said customers/patrons are already being fleeced to a certain extent.

I'm sure you all do great work for your local community and charities.

Don't be so bloody patronising!

£170k+ isn't bad, mind. ;)

EDIT - I've been away, anyway, and I thought it was a quick fundraiser for some machinery for our new training base?

It's amazing when you think about it, all this admirable fundraising could actually have gone towards a good local cause.

Instead it's going to go into the pocket of some overpaid journeyman mercenary, or possibly two at a push, playing at the lowest level of their profession.

Football eh.
Do you know my wife?
I was telling her how great it was yesterday and and she threw back at me how much better the money could be used at St Andrews hospice.

I'm with you. All they have to do is sack the manager that's all.

Fenty's been after him for months. He sat with him in his box at Wembley and he's down at Cheapside for training most days. I even saw Fenty texting him at a council meeting the other night, in between him checking The Fishy of course!

Not sure why, not like he has loads of money to take over from Fenty, he only won £4.8m didn't he? (obviously a lot, but not in terms of a football club).

Anyway good news, a new face on the board, obviously a fan to go with the two trust board members and a little extra cash if we need it.

£60k now raised tonight, plus £25k to come and numerous donations paid direct to the trust or the club shop to be added at the end.

Fantastic effort and to be honest I'm shocked how losing on penalties in the play-off final has galvanised the fans and club so much, you would think it would be all doom and gloom (especially how our fans were before Christmas towards Hurst) but it has had the complete opposite effect.

Lets hope if we don't make a perfect start the fans have the patience to wait a bit before getting all negative again.

Superb effort. Think your fans realise how close you were, especially with players you brought in for the last part of the season. This money should push you over the line.

This Operation Promotion means the pressure is all on Grimsby this season. Every dropped point will be like a slap in the face to all those donating their hard earned cash to this.

Anything less then storming to the title has to be classed as an EPIC FAILURE.

Poor effort. Stick to whining about how our mean fans say nasty things about your club.

I'LL be interested to see if Grimsby suffer the dreaded 'play off final hangover'.I had that nailed on to happen but I've been impressed by how the club has built momentum over the summer. The Bogle signing and the crowdfunding in particular.

Next year seems to be a season with few obvious contenders for automatic promotion and I certainly expect Grimsby to be one of the club's going for it.

You should storm to the title, given your massive budget and all the advantages you should have over everyone else.

If you don't it will be one of the most spectacular and embarrassing failures ever seen at this level.
