Dixie Dean. Started his career at Tranmere Rovers. Indisputably one of the top strikers in history.
Good shout. I would argue that the only one who is in the same league is Jimmy Greaves. Neither of these played for Bolton.

Can't remember who it was, could have been an old Swindon player from the 90s or something but anyway someone who had played under Hoddle was on a podcast talking about his training sessions. He used to join in and just take the absolute piss. He'd also lay into people a bit and be like "what you need to do is this..." before pinging a ball 75 yards onto a bottle cap or something and the players would just look around confused and say "...errrm, sorry but...we can't do that?"
It is rumoured he did the same thing with the England players and they asked him to stop taking free kicks in practice as he was much better than them!

Let us see Bigger Stadium Tick........More Honours Tick..............More wins head to head tick.......More years in the top league Tick
Have you anything going for you.....Even the writers of fools and horses acknowledge that Bolton are the bigger club by naming Rodney Charlton Trotter
Trotter being the main name and Charlton the name nobody has heard of lol
I believe that biggest home crowd watching Bolton was 69,912 in Feb 1933 against Man City. This indeed a very impressive amount.

However, as I am sure Bobbin will confirm, 75,031 were at The Valley to watch Charlton against Villa in 1938.

Jimmy Greaves is no World cup winner............Bolton have had world cup winners
Oh is that one of the parameters now, is it? Moving the goalposts mid-game here. You're on the ropes here masi. Jimmy Greaves and John Aldridge are moving in for the knockout blow.

Hope that team doesn't concede many penalties. Because that half wit in nets won't save any.

OK, I'll bite. No Cheltenham players will get in that, even when we had players on their way down the most famous we had was Andy Gray (he of Sky fame) and Clive Walker.

But, better than that team to have played for any other team in the Championship and League 1:

GK - Gordon Banks - Stoke - England's greatest goalkeeper and arguably the World's best in the 60s (only Lev Yashin would be better in most people's eyes) - also a World Cup winner

DR - Antonio Valencia - Wigan - You've already said he gets in.

DL - Ashley Cole - Derby County - Champion's League winner, won the FA Cup more times on his own than most clubs (7) - Marcos Alonso isn't fit enough to lace a prime Cole's boots - could also have gone with Stuart Pearce, but could argue he didn't win enough.

DC - Bobby Moore - Fulham - Speaks for itself really

DC - Rio Ferdinand - QPR - One of England's greatest ever ball playing centre-backs. Won Leagues and Champion's Leagues.

ML - John Barnes - Charlton Athletic - Arguably the best player in England throughout the 80s.

MC - Paul Gascoigne - Middlesbrough - In my opinion, England's greatest ever player.

MC - Danny Blanchflower - Barnsley - First man to captain a double winning team in the 20th century and also became the first captain of an English team to win a European trophy (CWC in 1963 for Spurs).

MR - Stanley Matthews - Stoke and Blackpool - First ever winner of the Ballon D'or. Arguably the inventor of true wing-play.

CF - Alan Shearer - Blackburn - League winner with Blackburn, Premier League's top scorer, League champion, captained England to their only other trophy aside from the World Cup in 66 - Le Tournoi in 1997.

CF - Christophe Dugarry - Birmingham - World Cup and European Championships winner.

And unless the Bolton diaspora was massive in the 1920s, the vast majority were rooting for the team in claret and blue.

Moore was not even Fulhams BEST player at that time
Cannot disagree with any of those players but they have to have played for the same team not a combination

So why did he get a World Cup Winners medal in 2009?
Because rightly so he was given one for being in the squad
Boltons 1939 team won more Medals that year than your so called World cup winners

And they rank higher than any world cup winners medal

To be fair to masi51 his opening post in this thread naming all those ex Bolton players just proves I think without any doubt now that Bolton Wanderers are indeed the biggest team -
In the world
In Europe
In England
In League 1

In Horwich.
