We went 4 wins in 30 and were adrift from safety four games ago - Bonner’s position was worse. But he’s done a great job to get you up and you’re still in the box seat to stay up. It’s not like you’d definitely be going down.

He deserved the chance to keep you up and, failing that, have the chance to bring you back up.

Who will you get? Keith Curle? John Yems? Hardly the most inspiring appointments.
Crosby until the end of the season and go from there, we paid 6 figures for DC so can't imagine we will go the cheap option.

I agree with this. Not sure if there were ever any dissenting voices or not against Bonner but sacking the manager isn’t the great cure people often think it is. Cambridge did very well not to take the bait on that run. Sometimes someone is just so inept or out of answers it has to happen but this isn’t one of them.

As for replacement it’ll be Andy Crosby if he wants it. Good guy and did well filling in last year but there’s a huge difference between being a caretaker and permanent manager.

Bonner hadn't lost the dressing room, DC Clearly has, the statement pretty much confirms that when "Senior Players" are involved in the decision.

The players should be the one's getting the flack.

Then you get the players in a room and say to them either fit in or fuck off preferably the latter in many of their cases. There’s form for this with how Askey got sacked.

Issue there is that all but relegates us, I am starting to get tired of Flickers mind.

I don’t know if Clarke had lost the dressing room as I haven’t been following you that closely. The same accusation was thrown at Bonner earlier this season by some of our fans and I’d say there was a fair chunk (not a majority but probably 30%-40%) who wanted him gone in January. Even the likes of me were wavering and I’m generally quite slow to want managers sacked.

It sounds like there’s off field factors affecting this so maybe more to it than we can see.

Weird why did I think he had been booted!
We sacked Flitcroft after he lost in the playoffs and what followed were two terrible appointments and we had to rebuild. What Clarke did last season for you should have given him some credit in the bank for the board to back him after this poor run. Time will tell but I think they’ll end up regretting this decision.

Various rumours,

One was he had told players who were leaving they were leaving or a player had seen a list.

Another was he was offered the Pompey job and they couldn't afford the compensation

Who knows.

Its Flitcroft who seems to be pulling the strings with us and not in a good way!

Its a terrible decision, but one the players deserve the main blame for.

Hope we absolutely batter Vale now on Saturday. Absolutely shocked at this decision.

All the best to DC

With the majority of supporters he still does if you see the reaction on social media or our forum. Generally someone on that run with managers fans can’t wait to see the back of them but not here. There have been a few who were sceptical of him throughout as is their right (even if I disagree) and he has been rather inflexible with his wingback system but nothing I don’t think you could work through. Of all the blame to go around he’s low on the list. Just sad really.

Yeah but if we beat you and Taylor goes back to Oxford he'd likely be relegated so swings and roundabouts!

I think he is out of contract so who knows where he will end up. Supposedly supports Oxford contrary to his previous actions

Vale must have pots of money if they can afford to sack Clarke when its completely unnecessary

IF we'd used this money to back him in January rather than backfire a gamble as it has we'd not be in this situation.

Darrell Clarke is a top bloke and a very decent manager, I get Vale are on an awful run but if I were them I’d have stuck with him. It won’t be easy finding anyone as good imo.

True,

The only caveat to the pasting we are getting as a club is that we don't know what if any part in this decision DC himself had, he hasn't looked himself, not been barking on the touch line like he used to be, did the Portsmouth job falling through affect him? Obviously last year's tragedy and then not really getting any close season due to the late finish/early start. He hasn't seemed himself throughout this run and could be that he needs time away.

A terrible, terrible decision. All the talk about building together as part of a long term goal is all very empty now

From the outside looking in it does seem strange considering that statement from Carol less than 2 weeks ago. Sounded like a close knit team
More established L1 sides are worse off even at this point

Fucking gutted.

4 huge games left. We have to stay up.

Won't fucking bother next season if we go back down. I'll spend my Saturday's doing things elsewhere with my lad.

DC wasn't available when we hired him, we paid 6 figures for him from Walsall.

Early betting has Danny Cowley 2/1 fav which is guess is standard as he is probably the most obvious candidate for a club like us at the moment.

Issue with this is we have no manager in place for the contract decisions come end of the season.

Unless the club reinstate Clarke as manager and fuck flitcroft and three quarters of the current playing squad off then I won't be having a season ticket. He's the best manager we have had since Micky Adams. It isn't his fault that he wasn't given any money to bring players in January, it isn't his fault that the players are putting in half arsed performances and losing there heads with idiotic red cards. They say they didn't want give any money to him for players in January and then have to pay compensation to him to sack him. I give up with them fucking shambles of a club and they get what they deserve if they keep flitcroft there.
