Back in court Monday on an assault charge after attacking his wife in June. How on earth can Rovers fans be happy with this fella in the dugout?

Horrible cnut.

They were mad to appoint him. Trouble follows him everywhere.

How will that impact his re-trial for the Barnsley incident.

Any jury will look at this and have their opinion based on the latest charge.

It won't. Any jury members will either not know who he is anyway so won't even take note of this, or they already know he's a serial offender.

I think for the club they have to get shot. Sponsors and female fans won’t want to be associated with the club. Tbf, most Gas fans have disowned him now. Probably gave him the benefit of the doubt before, but this . . .

We were very split before he was appointed. I've personally never liked him. Obviously being our manager though and he does tlak a good game, he didn't do bad at Fleetwood so you want to give him a chance and believe he is a reformed character. We are in a very sticky situation at the minute as he isn't actually guilty yet but if we stand by him and don't do anything then effectively supporting domestic violence. Will be interesting to see what the club say and do next.

If Barton had not had the privileged life of being a footballer he would 100% be serving time along with his Brother and Cousin for murder.
Absolute twat of a man just needs sparking out.

He’s a strange one.

Where you see his interviews, not about football but in general he’s quite an articulate lad, he comes across well.

However, ever since his days at man city he’s clearly got a screw loose and whereas maybe 1 isolate incident might be overlooked, he’s a catalogue of incidents the length of your arm.

Be surprised if rovers keep him now

I don’t see how the Rovers board don’t suspend him until this is resolved at least. That way they’re not presuming guilt but showing that they take it seriously.

I just think when you look at his history for any board employing him it really should be a red flag so can’t be shocked when he’s linked with something like this.

I know its Barton but please remember its innocent until proven guilty.
Absolutely. We all have to make our way in the world, pay our way and take responsibility for our actions. The club will wait to see how this unfolds and then consider if they have to take any action.

Not much point suspending him when the court case is tomorrow. An outcome will likely be decided tomorrow - he'll plead not guilty, but I don't think it is likely to go to a trial.

Yeah I completely agree. If found guilty I'm sure Rovers will take the correct steps.

He definitely speaks quite well to be honest, this Tweet a great insight into his morals:

So his wife has said today that no one is accusing him of violence against her. So it throws into the equation another woman, not that that changes anything - potentially anyway. Seems like the wife talk is paper talk. Also worth noting that no ambulance was called or needed.

I think the entire fan base has said that if guilty, that’s it. But how long does this go on for?

As for the Stendel case, that also seems less of a clear verdict than originally the papers had made out. It was said that Barton had punched/head butted him but as it turns out, there were apparently no witnesses (in a full tunnel) and Stendel could only confirm that he felt a knock on his shoulder that knocked him over. I think he will get away with this one tbh.

Big picture though is he’s a mess and has a lot of baggage. Only been here 6/7 months and we’re dealing with 2 court cases.

Personally I’ll wait until more info comes out tomorrow before casting judgement.

In life you find that these kind of charges and allegations have a tendency to follow certain people around. It’s very often not a coincidence.

He's not a bad lad, he's just misunderstood. Said the wife, mother and family of every scumbag ever.

We should always have sympathy with the victim, not the perpetrator but as Agombar alluded to, we have a system of justice which is not perfect but we have to follow. Once that has run its course, any necessary recriminations can follow. For what it is worth, my opinion of the gas manager will coincide with those of most people and I am confident Agombar will concur.

The papers don't really get this kind of thing wrong - they get the tip-off and confirm with the police/CPS. And even if they did get it wrong, they'd have been forced into a correction by now (haven't seen any corrections?).

It looks like his wife probably never brought about the charges, but someone must've called the police and they gathered enough evidence to build a case. The 999 call to police will probably play a big part.

Hard to prove what went on if there are no witnesses (we don't know who saw it) and a victim not willing to press charges so there's a good chance he'll get off with it. But the police don't send stuff like this to court if they don't believe there's enough evidence for a conviction.

Can you trust his wife coming out and defending him? Not so sure it holds much weight for me

Yeah I agree. Let's wait and see what the hearing states and go from there.
