He was in the first half, definitely.

You saw how quickly Pep reacted in that first few minutes of the second half and, while it is commonplace to make changes in the second half as opposed to the first, Jose let forty five minutes pass before he made a couple of changes that clearly needed to be made.

He got there in the end but perhaps a result could have been secured if he'd reacted a bit quicker.

Pepe: "Zidane & Mourinho are opposites. One is a good guy, the other one is the bad guy. Zidane was a player & he knows what players need."

Few points:

Starting CB's
Blind has to play. Bailly clearly has a rashness to his play and Blind was working very well with him. He doesn't deserve to be dropped after one bad game. I don't feel confident with Smalling and Bailly as a partnership. Always expect a mistake and Smalling isn't good enough on the ball. Looked all over the place today.

Pogba
We paid £89m for him. Play a system and the players to get the best out of him. Our midfield is all over the place. There is no balance and I don't know what Rooney is doing. Fellaini has done well but he's not a Manchester United player and never will be. He lacks the mobility required in our midfield. It's early, he will come good.

Rooney/Our midfield
He used to be an unbelievable player. He is now clearly finished and has been for some team. We have better striking options and better midfield options. Stop playing him because of who he was. It's 2016. I hope today was the last league game we'll ever see him in midfield. His touch is off, he is getting bullied off the ball, his passing isn't good and he can't dictate games against decent midfields. Please play Carrick in the next game.

I'd like to see:
Pogba (license to roam) - Herrera/Carrick
------ Carrick/Herrera

Rashford/Martial
Keep faith and they will produce the goods. Rashford was again our best attacking player. He'll lose the ball sometimes, but at least he's testing defenders. Martial is having a tough start, but look at what he did last season. He's a top player and just needs a goal. Lingard isn't on their level and Memphis is abysmal. Obviously Mkhitaryan gets in somewhere when he is fit and has settled in.

Ibra
He needs support. Give him chances and he puts the ball away. Simple as. He is having to come far too deep at the minute.

We were the nail in Joses coffin at Chelsea. Although I don't think us beating Utd at Old Trafford would be his final action it'd be nice to add to his current woes. Unfortunately I don't see them losing 4 on the bounce.

*just thought, you've got Northampton in the cup in the week so you can get back to winning ways and we can start you off on new bad run! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS Optimistic.

It's annoying thinking back to one of Mou's earlier pressers when he gave that talk about Rooney not being a midfielder and being interested in "specialist" players, only to persist with a 4-2-3-1 to accommodate him in a #10 to the detriment of, well the whole team - but especially Zlatan and Pogba. It's fucking happening again; he's in a midfield three, even played on the wing ffs. I'ma play some Armchair Manager for a hot sec.

We initially had a central defensive unit of

Fellaini

Bailly - Smalling
Where are we supposed to start a passing game? Bailly and Smalling are also too similar. With the personnel available, the best we can do is

Carrick

Blind - Bailly/Smalling
Carrick is 35 years old and doesn't cut the mustard against the very top teams. We can move Blind there, but then we lose our only ball playing centre back. He also doesn't handle being pressed very well, which tends to happen in midfield.

We have a serious problem in building up play, look clueless at times in possession.

Yup, dropping Blind after one poor game (despite arguably being our most consistent performer last season and starting this season well) is fickle and with Fellaini as the DM it means we've got no one who can pass sensibly out of defence. A Bailly/Smalling partnership might work with someone like Carrick sitting in front of them, but with Fellaini it's a mess.

The main thing we have to do, and should have done years ago when I was shouting about it on TFF and being laughed at, is fuck Rooney off.

He's deteriorated quite a bit since I first advocated kicking him to the curb and we've had supposedly "tough" managers in Fergie, van Gaal, Mourinho, big Sam all fail to drop him for any meaningful length of time - Mourinho still has time before I'll judge him too harshly for it. We've even had van Gaal come out and say his "captain shall always play" and big Sam say "who am I to tell Rooney where to play?".

He must be some kind of scouse black magician to remain in the side.

I didn't see the game today, I'm extremely ill you see, but I've read match reports and apparently he was awful again.

Although, while jokes are being discussed...

I used to defend him back in the day as well. I remember when that Özil is the best player in the league-thread was going (which was the summer of 2013 I think), I held both Rooney and Suarez in higher regard than Özil. Funnily enough, I got more stick for rating Suarez over Özil than I did for Rooney.

Rooney has never been as good as a lot of people made him out to be, he's had a single world class season in a United shirt.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
Some of us have said that for a long time.

So far this season, United have covered the fewest metres out of all 20 Premier League sides (unsurprisingly, Liverpool are first, Man City second and Spurs third).

In an age where pressing is key, that's just not good enough. Whether it's down to United not physically being able to do it or it's Mourinho's choice, I don't know.

United need to back Mourinho. Even in the unlikely event they don't finish in the top 4. Psychologically Mourinho hasn't gotten over the parting of ways at Real and Chelsea (especially the latter). JM probably needs a full season and plenty of love from the MU hierarchy and supporters alike to get back to his old self.

A case of the right manager at the wrong time.

I read on Twitter that Mourinho has now lost 14 of his last 32 games. That aura he once had has well and truly gone. Way too early to make pronouncements about his United career but his sides don't normally start this slowly, and Guardiola's effortless transition at City is making him look even worse.

Shame.

Reckon he's lost the dressing room already. Must have proper lost the plot or something after the city game.

Well if I were a physio I'd be prepping myself for the sack.

After the Watford match he's blamed luck, the ref (and refs in other matches), Luke Shaw.

But no blame on English pundits and journalists favourite Wayne Rooney. 300k a week and I could pass better than him!

You don't count. You think every United player is overrated and every City player is underrated.

Bilo is right - you don't get credit for behind ahead of the curve when it comes to suggesting a football player isn't as good as he is generally perceived to be if you spend most of your time slagging off every facet of the club he plays for anyway. You are bound to get some right.

Broken clock and all that.
