I would like to place on record my delight that Rui Faria has also been fired.

I heard from a Roma fan they have not won a game in a month? Kinda reminding me of Liverpool, unfortunately, American owners who've put quite a lot of cash in the club but it's just not happening for them.

Interesting though that is, I don't know what it has to do with Mourinho's chippy and belligerent assistant at Chelsea getting the boot!

Oh jeez, well I thought it was odd to mention Roma's manager in this thread xDDD
I misread / mistook it for Rudi Garcia (who also is apparently on the brink).

Are we pretending Fergie wasn't as big of a c*** as Mourinho now or something? If a managers conduct was that important to Yoonited then Fergie would have been sacked 100 times over.

There is one obvious candidate to be the new Chelsea manager and that is Alan Pardew.

“He is ready for the step up to join a team in the Champions League. He has the ability, the ego and the bravery.

“Pardew can handle any owner, even one as demanding as Roman Abramovich. After all, Pardew survived four years at Newcastle United under Mike Ashley and that was remarkable in itself.

“Pardew has the ego to walk into any boardroom and any dressing room and not feel intimidated.

“Perhaps Abramovich will think Pardew is not a glamorous enough appointment but Crystal Palace play attractive football.

“If not Pardew, then Abramovich should consider Mark Hughes. Right now Stoke City are playing the sort of football that would excite the Chelsea owner.

“What the Chelsea players need is a compassionate manager. Pardew would heal the wounds and get them winning again.”

Fergie was tough and demanding and sometimes outright irritating, but he had / has about 10 times more charisma than Mourinho.

WHo doesn't do that? In terms of player respect, Fergie is in a different tier to Mourinho.

i disagree, never have i seen a set of players show more respect to a manager than those inter players did with mourinho, or the chelsea players first time round. but either way player respect is irrelevant to the discussion when talking about yooniteds supposed reluctance to sign a world class manager because his conduct is deemed inappropriate. i'm merely demonstrating that assertion makes zero sense given their most successfull manager ever displayed the absolute worst conduct of any manager in the country during his 26 year yoonited career. he's got more fines and touchline bans than mourinho has games managed.

You've gotta admit G 2 d B, his oubursts and public mind games were properly amusing. Mou sorta lost it towards the end, I've always been a massive apologist for his distastefulness but it got like really bad after the Eva shit.

Until recently I'd have loved him at United.

Meh. It's a bad patch but he's taken Roma more forward than any manager since Capello. Roma are still in the CL remember.

Will some admin please merge the Mourinho threads? I miss being mod. I shall go on strike very soon, believe me!

Dunno what to say about this really. It's a great shame it's ended like this - he'll undoubtedly always be greatly revered for what he's done for the club but the results were so bad that I really don't think the board had much choice. It's all very well saying that Chelsea wouldn't have been relegated, and I agree that the very thought is absurd, but our form, at almost the midway point in the season, very much pointed to a survival battle. Apart from Mourinho's customary three points against Wenger the only league teams Chelsea have managed to beat this season are Norwich, Villa and West Brom (and they didn't convincingly dispatch any of those). I've got no idea what happened behind the scenes to precipitate this but something was clearly broken and I really don't think Mourinho knew how to fix it - he looked utterly lost towards the end of his tenure.

3-year theory?
The idea that the physical and emotional intensity he engenders in his teams leaves them burned out after a couple of years looks quite compelling now. He - and Chelsea - were very clear when he returned that this time would be different; they were planning for the long term, building a dynasty. This season casts serious doubts that he can ever do it. He was given far more leeway than any previous Chelsea manager, but just could not steady the ship when it started rocking. The conflict he brings, which he needs (and he has said that he needs it) to whip his teams into a frenzy, works for a little while, but eventually everyone - players, staff, the board, the media - yearns for peace, and when the tide turns he is Cnut, bellowing helplessly at the sea. Or something like that.

Steve McLaren, Brian Kidd, Walter Smith, Carlos Quieroz and Mike Phelan. The only leader of men in there is Smith and he was at United for five minutes.

I said coaches, you don't have to be a leader of men to be a great coach.

What has that got to do with the original point of Ferguson being a charismatic leader?

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
He might get the Man City job if they boot Pellegrini and Pep snubs them.

Don't think he'd be a 'fit' at City when one of the reasons reportedly given for Mancini's departure was that he was constantly rubbing players and staff up the wrong way. He probably needs to give England a swerve for a while now anyway. (Although I'd love it if he went out to prove that he really is special by taking over at Bolton (or Charlton so he can stay in London)

Rumours are that Mourinho is already talking to Roma, and the odds on Pep rolling up at City have been slashed by the bookies. Current thinking is that MP is going to move upstairs in the wider 'City Group' as a man who has managed in England, Europe and South America and had success in all three.

But all mere speculation.
