My biggest frustration with Rodgers was that when attacking with possession, we had no urgency, no movement, no clear plan. I am disappointed in Klopp that he hasn't changed any of this so far.

We have possession somewhere around the half-way line and everyone higher up the pitch are standing with their back to the opposition goal. One player makes a run towards the ball to make himself available for a pass. Often receives it with his back to goal with a defender right on him and can only pass it back again or sideways. Nobody is making off-the-ball runs unless they believe they will receive the initial pass. It's always just one, on rare occasions two, guys in motion at the same time. This doesn't create spaces and pull defenders out of position, it's such a passive way of trying to build up attacks. Two guys play a pass between themselves and the other eight just stand and watch what's happening. Then it's time for the next two. No chemistry, no anticipation, no off-the-ball movement, no urgency.

And the thing is, if the manager just gave better instructions, we could easily play better. Not saying we'd beat everyone, but at least get more to show for from games against Newcastle, West Brom and Watford than one point with a -5 goal difference. Tell the attacking players to drop deeper to receive the ball. Tell the players to make runs even if they're unlikely to receive the initial pass. Play it faster in the final third, too many of our players like to hold onto the ball unnecessarily. This is what needed to change under Rodgers and I'm disappointed that right now it's looking no different under Klopp.

Makes me think it might be a case of the players not being good enough. Urgency is one thing Klopp demands and quite frankly if the players aren't doing it, maybe that's because they're not capable of it. There's a fair few players in that Liverpool squad that need to be moved on.

he got involved at half time, in the team talk, told them what they were doing wrong, and we were the better team in the 2nd half believe it or not (I know everyone anti liverpool fan and watford fan are on cloud 9 so don't want to believe that) (as he said) despite not getting anything to show for it, and being punished late on, on the counter

proud of klopp? is he your son?

The urgency isn't there when we are comfortably in possession. There's an awful lack of off-the-ball movement. First we would need the players to start working harder when we are in possession and attack as a unit instead of just a couple of players at a time trying something between them. If we started doing that, then we'd find out whether the players just aren't good enough. But right now we're not doing the right tactical things as a team when in possession of the ball.

it's ok you don't understand but I'll try to explain as well as possible: klopp could of easily chosen a formation that would have been more compact, in klopp's post match he talks about compactness of our formation letting us down

I know it was a team in yellow cha but it wasn't the 1970 Brazil side, it was Watford.

lol they still got a good finisher in Ighalo, gifted the first goal, don't ask me what Skrtel is doing for the second.

So you're proud of him being tactically inept?
no because it's not tactically inept (what he did) it was an all or nothing gameplan. counter attacking 4-3-3 is great as long as you score first

what, so you don't think our team is suited to water polo? we were walking it until the pitch became unplayable and the game was played out with the ball 10ft in the air.

5 more points to go fella. you can do it, chin up :)

We were both playing on the same pitch mate...

I dunno, I do worry, even Derby managed a point at St James'.

yeah but league 2 style football suits league 2 standard teams better, which is why you could compete once playing actual football was impossible

So, the 20/30 odd minutes in which the pitch was playable overrides the other 60/70, due to a Sunday League standard pitch?

Okay.

i'm just saying, while football was possible we were all over you. once it was no longer possible you could compete by kicking it in the air over and over, playing on the deck (the method we initially used to batter your terrible midfield for half an hour) wasn't an option anymore. here's hoping you can play out the rest of the season 6ft under water, you might be okay if you can avoid having to play football.

Bald men and a comb?

Think Liverpool can write off top 4, but given their occasional brilliance a cup competition maybe better suited.

Hmmm I think you're all correct we should sack Klopp immediately and go with a begging bowl back to Rodgers. It's the right thing to do.

How long before the media stop wanking off Klopp and pretending he's had a massive effect at Liverpool?

The way some Liverpool fans are blaming him, you would think Rodgers was still in charge.

Also, I see the "little magician" Coutinho has used up his 3 good games already this season.

Klopp can't really be blamed for the squad being shit.
People are using Klopps opening record and Brendans finishing record in as a stick to beat the German with, but that doesn't really make sense when you figure into it that the whole squad was bought to play the formers type of football not the latters. For Klopp to go in there and be doing just as well when the players he has are suited to a different style of play and the man himself doesn't have a clear idea of what those players are capable of, it's unfair and short sighted. Funny though!
It's not like a Pulis or Allardyce job where Klopp first comes in and tries to make them hard to beat, I think that type of takeover is a bit easier and initially more effective perhaps because the expectations are different. He's not gone in to try to stop them losing games, he's there to try and start winning and go up the table. With that he's going to have to take risks with players because he needs to see if they can play his style of football. Those that can't will be jacked in, and then he should bring in players that can play his way. At that point any failure is down to him.

I see that Herr Klopp is saying that the fact that there is no PL winter break harms the national side in major tournaments and club sides playing in Europe. A few things sprang to mind.

1. When we won the World Cup against West Germany (!), the squad had just completed a 42 game league season, and been involved in the League and FA Cups, where quite often there could be more than one replay. Also, in those days you could quite often play on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
2. The squads were smaller back then and there was very little rotation.
3. Most pitches looked like the aftermath of the Somme come January.
4. The balls were much heavier, not like the glorified beach balls they use now

What I think has harmed the England national side and the clubs are;
1. Too much international football, which impinges in to the domestic season
2. This also includes the expansion of major finals tournaments (16 to 24 and potentially 32 to 40 in the WC)
3. The expansion on the CL and the EL, whereby the competition can start in late June/early July in some cases.

I am sure there are other factors involved, but these are a few to be getting on with.

The difference is that the game is played at twice the pace now than it was then and you're competing against players that have Olympic levels of fitness.

The problem is that you're comparing the team in 1966 to the team now.

Our team now is not playing against the 1966 West German side. It's playing against those well rested and energised chaps in the Bundesliga and La Liga and it is certainly not winning any tournaments.

I mean, he's Jurgen Klopp, he knows what he is talking about.

The real question is whether we actually want a slightly better chance at tournaments if it means giving up Christmas football and our beloved carling cup.

Do you really think giving the players a couple of weeks off over Christmas would result in us matching the Germans or Spanish for talent and winning a tournament?

France and England should toss the League Cup. It's useless.
