You might remember some while back a Cambridge fan by the name of Simon dobbin was attacked and set on by a group of Southend “fans”.

Unfortunately, it left him in a bad way - he now requires round the clock help https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/simon-dobbin-2

Well Sean Revill (Ronnie to stags fans) has a heart of gold and was so touched he set on raising £600 for a 50 inch tv and a 2 year subscription to ifollow. Contrary to belief, us Mansfield bunch are a decent lot in general - everyone in our local has put their hand in their pockets.

Sometimes it’s easy to forget that technically were all a football family, and if any of you wished to contribute it would be lovely if you did.

Edit - he’s already hit £1100 and got onto the bbc - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-suffolk-46962142

Ah wonderful man. It’s gone up another £120.

No sum of money can help him physically but at least it’ll help a little

Well done to this fine gentleman who isn't even a U's fan but a Stags fans.

I wonder whether iFollow can be persuaded to let Simon Dobbin stream the games without a VPN? Simon's in the UK, and watching live streams via VPN's is illegal, though obviously loads do this every weekend. Not forgetting that a good decent VPN is also a a tad costly.

Apparently any club chairman/owner has a free UK pass which he could use that doesn’t need a VPN.

Just read on Ronnies (The lad who did the fundraising) Facebook that Simon passed away this morning. Incredibly sad news.

RIP fella.

Terribly sad new. RIP Simon Dobbin.
I can't imagine what he and his family have gone through these past few years. Finally he is at peace.

Sad to hear this, recall the story a while back and the perpetrators deserve the harshest punishment for it.

Rest in Peace, hopefully his team can continue to do him proud in his memory this season.

He was with a mate. They had stayed behind to watch the rugby and sadly got set upon as they were heading for the train.

I have just read the sad news about Simon Dobbin, an absolutely tragic story of someone who went to watch a game of football and has now lost his life in such a cowardly and pointless way. So angry that the perpetrators aren’t punished properly.

Glad there is a thread in his memory, he would have been so proud to have seen his team doing so brilliantly this season.

Very sad news about Simon Dobbin - I can't imagine what his family have been through these past few years. As Beadle says, the attackers were responsible for this and I wish nothing but ill will on all of them.

Can only echo everyone else's comments. Let's hope for some proper punishment now comes the way of those who were found guilty and have since been released from prison.

It’s the most harrowing story, it’s just so evil. His passing is so so sad.

I hope there’s a retrial, now it’s manslaughter they’d be up for.

Such tragic news and just so sad.

fingers crossed there’s some real justice for the people that did this.

Terrible what happened.

Not sure they can upgrade any charges if they've been in the nick a while (?). There's time limits on these things IIRC and they'll have to prove that he died directly as a result. We all know that is likely but burden of proof and all that.

At least he's not in pain or suffering any more. RIP.

Sickening that every single of one the offenders has already been released from prison.

RIP.

The punishments handed down were an absolute disgrace. The most any of them got was 5 years. 5 years for leaving someone needing round the clock care is absolutely no punishment.

In 2012 I was glassed on a night out. The guy got 5 years for it. I’m absolutely fine, got a little scar that you can barely see and I have been completely recovered for years. How is it fair and just that my attacker got more time in prison than most of Simon’s attackers? Simon’s life ended that day, and our justice system deems a maximum of 5 years in prison a fair punishment? Disgraceful.

RIP Simon.

All out now as well. There should be a retrial for manslaughter, at the very least. They showed no remorse first time around and their families were a disgrace to the Dobbin's after the verdict, absolute gutter scum the lot of them.

It's truly awful news, what Simon and his family have been through is unimaginable, and all for something as innocuous as going to the football. We were in that pub before the game and we left as it was getting a bit heated, whole day had that vibe about it, we've all stayed behind after away games before, it could have been any of us, that's pretty harrowing but obviously nothing compared to what the Dobbin's have been through.

Rest in peace Simon.

Sentencing is weird in this country.

I know a lad locally who got 17 for driving a van with weed in it. He'll be out in 12 years. No violence involved in this either. Feel for him. No idea how drugs offences get the harshest penalties but you can get 5 years for rape or 5 years for kicking the crap out of someone who was left with horrendous injuries.

One of the saddest things I've seen involving modern day football, poor Simon went to a game but never truly came home. RIP.

If there is any justice those who did this will be charged with manslaughter.

I may be wrong and hope I am but don't think that can now be done.

I don't think that a more serious charge is ruled out. I was involved in a case where a man initially convicted of an assault; deliberately driving at a cyclist who was knocked off his bike and in a coma, but later died and there was a further trial on a homicide charge.

Truly horrible situation and as others have said, what happened to Simon could been any of us on another day. RIP.
