I bought an Amazon Fire TV box and Stick when they first came out for the simple reason that they were the only android boxes you could get that had Amazon Prime, Netflix and able to installi kodi on.

Not regretted buying either, they both still work really well and do exactly what I need. Thought about a Nvidia Shield when they came out, but couldn't justify buying one when what I already had works fine. Now I have a new TV that has smart features and can play Netflix and Amazon Prime on that I will probably get something else just for kodi in the future.

I'm going to get myself one of them Nvidia Shield TV boxes, they look the boy. They can keep that remote for £40 though, jesus. I'll see if the TV remote can do the job, or see about getting a cheaper one!

I got the remote for free with an Amazon deal back in December, as well as the wireless game controller you always get with the Shield TV. Both were shit so sold them for £60 on eBay, which effectively meant I got the Shield for £90. Was happy with that.

If you buy one I suggest the first thing you do is install the full version of Android off XDA. Nvidia's software is limited as it's based on Google's Android TV.

What remote do you control it with?

I looked into one of them, but they're ridiculously expensive for what they do. Simply couldn't justify it.

What did you pay? And are they official Nvidia controllers? I sold my controller for £38 so you could potentially get nearly £80 back if you sell both of them. Just to let you know, if you install the full version of Android the Nvidia bespoke wireless doesn't work for the controllers. But they're shit anyway so it's no loss, normal wireless works fine. I bought a second hand Dualshock 3 and run it using the Sixaxis application for games.

£150 for the unit, £10 for the air mouse. Yeah official Nvidia ones. It's a promotion they seem to be running at the moment. Are the controllers pretty useless? If so yea I'll end up flogging them.

What games do you run on it? Games from Play or using the Geforce stream thing? I can't see myself using great deal for games

Would it not be easier to use something like this than an air mouse?

No. I have one and the mouse pad is ropey and too small for effective use. An air mouse works like a Wiimote, plus turn it over and you have a full keyboard on the back. For me, they work much better.

Air mouse is a bit of a misnomer really, it's just a point and click remote. LG have been doing their TV remotes like this for a while now

So Virgin and other UK ISPs have been ordered to block access to Putlocker, Putlocker plus, Couchtuner, MerDB, Rainierland, Vidics, WatchFree and XMovies8. That has implications for Kodi users. There are ways around it of course. My RealDebrid account is a wonder.

That will make the square root of fuck all difference to Kodi users who access it via VPN. Which will be virtually all power users out there.

I have Kodi on an Amazon stick, but when I watch films it is very juddery, for want of a better word. Makes it un watchable. Any ideas how I would fix that? I have probably played around with a setting somewhere and would rather not have to re boot.

Also, what would you recommend for Football?

The problem you likely have is the Amazon Stick itself. It's one of the lowest specced Android media players you can buy, it simply doesn't have the horsepower required to play certain file formats.

Are you running a build on it or vanilla Kodi with selected addons? What type of files are you attempting to run? And are you going via a VPN? All can effect the speed.

My tech knowledge is sketchy and as I am at work, I dont really know. I just followed YouTube to get Kodi. I only have one add on at the moment, which is Exodus for films.

It wasnt ever as bad as it is now, so I will probably start it all over again. What step by step would you recommend I use to follow? I havent got it set to get via a VPN, it is set up as normal from my Fibre connection.

If it still does not work then I will have to scroll through this and find a better box to use so make it clearer. Christmas is coming up so I will treat myself.

I would recommend you go to your apps section in settings, then clear data within Kodi. This will effectively take it back to looking like a new install. Then install Fire TV Build. This is a small, lightweight build specifically designed for Fire Sticks which contains everything you need. Do a Google search for how to install it, it's very simple.

Thanks for the tip with FireTV Build. I have similar problems like QPR_Matt with my Amazon FireTv stick. I have Kodi installed on an Android Box, my Tablet and the stick. On all devices I have the Titanium build installed which is a big too much for the stick, on the other devices it works fine.

I've got a Sony smart TV with google play and downloaded the Kodi app. Will I be able to view sports and films via the apps within or am I best off using my fire stick....?

I've not used a TV with built in Android and the ability to install applications like Kodi. The most important thing is the power of the TV's CPU, if it can't deal with the decoding of 1080p files or streams without stuttering then you're better off with the Firestick. The storage of the TV is important too, it will need at least a gig to have Kodi installed along with a build.

What's the best build?

I downloaded popcorn flix earlier as it was recommended by a friend but it seemed to consist mainly of films I'd never heard of...?

I wouldn't go for a build, but I know a lot of people do. I prefer just to install just the addons I want.

Sports - Castaway (set up the subreddit section for HD acestream streams for all matches)

TV/Films - Exodus and SALTS

Then you can just install more niche stuff to suit your tastes - KissAnime if you like anime, Ultimate Whitecream if you are a pervert etc. I've also got a Real Debrid account which gives you access to a lot more HD links and links in general.

Try Fire TV Build, it's lightweight and covers everything you need.

There are advantages and disadvantages to builds. But for me a good build is better than vanilla Kodi and individual addons. The problem is that there are so many bad builds out there, people sometimes judge the premise against them.

I'm surprised you haven't come across issues. More and more streamed content from addons such as SALTS, Exodus and Phoenix are being encoded using HevC. The Firestick doesn't come with a native h.265 hardware decoder, so it will either refuse to play or will play with problems as the CPU attempts to software decode but falls short.
