Too much in my opinion, I think a 1 or 2 minute silence would have been enough to show respect.

I'm with you. The tribute at Wembley on Tuesday night was great, and very emotional. Doing the same thing again would be a bit OTT in my opinion.

Taking it a little too far now. I fully understand why Paris is getting more attention than Beirut and Kenya, however I do think playing the anthem before each game is showing a bit of disrespect towards Beirut and Kenya.

The truth is we don't care about Beirut and Kenya, we're showing solidarity with the West, as well as the rich amount of French footballers that play in this league. Can't understand why it's "too much" or why it's a big deal to do it. It's hardly taxing.

It's showing solidarity, is a one off and it's a bloody belting anthem so why not.

This is too much.
Wembley was nice, fitting, and well received. Leave it at that.

How is it "too much" exactly? Can you show "too much" solidarity? Is it "too much" to handle? I think a bit of perspective is needed if you're seriously complaining about this.

Complaining? No.
More like, a feeling that it's a little crass.

The whole point of Wembley the other night was because it was a one off, special, England hosting France in the national stadium etc.
By all means let's hold a minute silence at every game this weekend, of course. It's not a big deal, but I don't know...La Marseillaise again just feels a bit like the Premier League going for a PR stunt.

If it's not a big deal it's not a big deal. What's the difference between silence and an anthem being played? It's not the norm? They're both tantamount to the same thing.

The Premier League is much more diversified and appeals to a broader global audience. It represents more than the sentiments of a single nation.

Not sure if playing the French anthem will go down well at some clubs.

It's going beyond a heartfelt show of solidarity, which we've already had, and wandering almost into the realms of narcissism. It makes no sense to be playing the French national anthem before Premier League football matches, it's just a sad showy celebration of "look how bloody caring we are". It's making it about us, not them.

There always comes a point when it's "too much". Would anyone agree with it being played at the start of every single game until the end of the season?

I think it's a show of unity. Nobody would have a problem if there was a minute's silence, because they're used to it. For me that is a display of grieving, while the tone for this tragedy is standing together and showing a united front. I think playing the anthem is therefore more than appropriate.

As I said before, the Premier League represents more than the sentiments of our nation, it's more diversified and is seen by a huge global audience. It contains players from all over the world, and a tonne from France. It's completely different from the national team paying respect.

OK, but in this context do you think it's too much?

Will we be playing the Malian national anthem too? A mash-up mix perhaps?

Diversity doesn't mean only french though.

I'm not sure why football is always the conduit for 'remembrance'. Whether it's poppies on shirts or minute silences. I don't understand why football has these silences yet cinemas, gigs, theatre doesn't. Would you feel comfortable at work if your manager called all the staff into his/her office to play the La Marseillaise?

The Premier League is a weird beast I don't fully understand so perhaps it's normal to do this. I just find it odd.
