Sean O'Driscoll now 4/6 to be new Walsall manager on Sky Bet, seems a done deal.

Absolutely silent, club hasn't said a word since Deano left and less than a week ago SOD said he hadn't been contacted... so a little odd.

Would be very happy with that appointment though.

Kevin Keen has jumped up the odds from nowhere to second favourite behind Brown (who is no longer in the running), so there might be something in that. Our chairman is a West Ham fan and was a big sponsor there for quite a while in the past so Keen's West Ham links may also mean something.

18 month contact for Sean O'Driscoll officially announced a few minutes ago.

Decent pedigree of manager for a club our size, clearly the board are seeing the opportunity that is available to them this season.

We generally stick with managers for a long time, even if they don't do spectacular (Dean Smith).

He also doesn't need to "build" anything here as what he "builds" is pretty much complete here anyway.

Why just 18months then?

Are Smiths and SODs footballing styles similar? Just cos Smith has built a team he can work with it isn't necessarily one SOD will get the best out of!?

Because he will be on higher wage than Smith and we can't guarantee to pay that. The club emphasized that it was an "initial" 18 month deal anyway.

We play in an almost identical way to how his Doncaster team played, the assistant manager of that team was also our assistant manager and one of SO'D's best mates too. Deano as well is also good friends with SO'D. Our's and SO'Ds are very similar styles created by pretty much the same people.

I guess any contract is an 'initial x months' tbf.

Sounds like a smart move then, be interesting to see if he hits the ground running

we never really go straight up x amount of years contract.

95% of the time if we aren't in a relegation scrap in League One, the manager is safe and can stay as long as he wants.

Looks a decent appointment anyway, had his bad spells but who hasn't down here, if he can replicate what he's done in the past then we are onto a good one

Well he led us to the second best ever season in our history (12th in the Championship), but that was on a big budget and Walsall won't offer that but he could get you promoted. An impressive appointment.

Keen is sat with the chairman at Rochdale today, so it looks odds on.
