Herd was decent on loan for us in 2008, had we had him all season we may have stayed up.

This is one of the funnier things I've read on here recently.

Morsy to Wigan done it seems. Gutted.

Be undisclosed no doubt but around £250k plus add ons reportedly.

We went on a great run of form at the back end of that season once he signed. Had he been there maybe we'd have turned it around far earlier than we did.

£250K for Morsy! Am I missing something here, why on earth is Morsy going for so little? He's worth so much more than that.

Undisclosed fee. Who'd have guessed.

Good luck to him. If Wigan treat him well and he behaves himself he could go a long way. It'll be good to see how he does without a bunch of no-hopers for team mates.

Good couple of signings for Wigan, they've recruited well this window. Got to fancy them for top two now.

Still did you 3-1 at Vale Park if I recall ;)

Yeah not our brightest campaign either, tbh... lowest Football League finish since the early 80s I think. I hate this league.

Morsy, the best midfielder I've seen at Town in 35 years

Our club is a shambles

Would have liked Morsy at PNE but we've got a shitload of central midfielders at the moment, £250k is a bargain if that's true.

is he that good ?? chesterfield fans going mental on twitter about selling him

In a word, yes. Some of our bitter fans would tell you anyone that leaves Vale is s**t, could be Messi and they'd say the same thing. Morsy was quality for us, unfortunately he became the victim of Adams' shocking approach to managing youngsters. There are still some on OVF saying he's overrated. He's not, he's a great player. He's one of them battling midfielders that can break up play and then looks steady on the ball to pick a simple pass. He can dictate the game and has got a good finish too, he scored a great goal for us at home to Oxford live on Sky. It was in that match though that he was lucky to avoid a red card for a 2 footed lunge. I think Adams warned him at that point, but a few weeks later he got sent off against Rochdale when we were cruising at 2-0. We ended up drawing 2-2 after he got sent off. He never really got a look in after that, and Adams ended up loaning Griffiths back from Orient. We ended up getting promotion, so Adams lovers would say he got it right, but we never really showed the style of play in the second half of the season than what we did in the first half with Morsy and Burge in the middle, and basically stumbled over the finish line. Griff was a bit of a grafter, but not good enough to lace Morsy's boots. We then offered Morsy a 2 year contract but it was clear that Adams' style and treatment of him had had it's effect. We got some compensation when he went to Chesterfield and Smurf managed to get a sell on included to, so we'll see something coming our way from this deal. Smurf still says it's one of his regrets that he didn't do more to keep Morsy.

We've signed . . . fucking nobody. But on the upside we've got shot of about 10 players.

Sounds like a recipe for success to me!

Probably be last-minute.com if we bring anyone in as is usually the case. We need 3 or 4 so hope Power has some players lined up or we risk being in squeaky bum territory again injury wise. Beyond the first 11 it's wafer thin.

Sounds like Vig has signed on a permanent. That frees up another loan slot. As the loan window is open for ages I'd expect any incoming to be yet more loan players.

I understand the thought behind loans but it is beginning to thoroughly piss me off.

We never really saw the best of Morsy and he was a walking red card which for a disciplinarian like Adams was never going to sit well.

Sounds like we have a 20% sell on so the compo plus 50k (if the fee is 250k) and at least we have had some financial benefit from it, Smurf seemed pleased in this tweet last night that the Wigan deal was good for us financially and if that is why we've made these two signings last week and it benefits us in that way then its positive.

Surely though CFC would have been better to cash in during the summer, thus getting probably 4 times the fee and the time to invest some of it in a replacement? Once you take out our slice of the fee they haven't really got much for him at all. Surprised he went to another League One club though.

I don't see how Power thinks we'll get to The Championship with such a colossal overhaul every season. Last season was a one off in my opinion, I don't see us being able to mount a serious challenge when we're constantly having to rebuild.

This season for example it's taken until the last month or so to realise the best formation and for players like BOO to settle in. We need to tie down the bulk and bring in 4 or 5 every year to replace whoever we sell.

Don Cowie and Grant Holt have left Wigan by mutual consent. I know it will have cost them a packet to terminate their contracts, but Wigan have downsized a fair bit over the course of the season. Obviously spent shed loads, but not running a 30 man squad like it initially seems.

Good player, good signing. He looked classy when he played a couple of games for us until he fell foul of the 8 loan players we had at one time and he had to be the one to dip out
