According to telegraph on twitter we tried to extend Amonds contract in Jan.
I think it makes sense to offer one year contracts at this level, especially when we didn't know what league we would be in. Chances are most of them wouldn't have signed longer anyhow. Bogle makes sense as we paid a fee and if he was/is successful theres a good chance we can make money on him.

Anyhow good luck to Amond hopefully he does score lots of goals but he still has to prove that at this level, our last two 30 goal strikers have both been replaced, Amond can be too. I don't care where he goes either I don't get the fishys obsession with us being bigger than others, we aren't we struggled to average 6k when we was in the championship for starters. If other clubs offer more money, longer contracts then you can't blame the players. Hopefully its a sign that Fenty has learnt from our previous time here that its time to make sure we don't throw money at things in the hope we stay up and we build sustainably and not have to rely on him in the future. I don't care if we stay in lge 2 for 4 or 5 years finishing midtable as long as we never go back down and build the club back up and hopefully finallu get that new stadium to push us on.

We've signed LB Zoumana Bakayogo on a 1 year deal. Should be a good signing for us, did ok with us in League 1 last season, one of the few players that actually looked FL standard. He'll do alright in L2.

You'll have to come up with a quality Song-o for him.

Pretty annoyed that Amonds gone, I feel like if we'd have offered him a decent deal he would've stayed. The question marks over wether he'll cut it again do remain, they did with us when we came up but it doesn't mean nobody wanted him to stay. I certainly did and it's annoying that we're now having to build a new squad having seemingly not done enough to get players to stay.

I agree with this but at the same time i still think that we have to be thankful for where we are, we are in the Football League but having to rebuild, whereas had we not gone up we would have lost the same players plus McKeown and be having a full rebuild in the Conference and probably looking at a season in Conference mid table.
Must feel shit at the minute for a lot of our fans losing all our players, but could be a lot worse and i think a lot of our fans are not properly grasping that at the minute.
We are Football League and for me, it still feels great! :)

Is there any truth in the rumour that this recruitment firm is based in The Channel Islands and as such offers foreign players low tax benefits?

Read another rumour that you've offered £2800pw to Amond, does that seem likely?
.[/QUOTE]

Never heard that one before & to be honest it sounds like complete guff.

£2800pw,can't see it.And if we were offering that kind of money,we'd be getting players better than Amnond

I thought the first rumour seemed far fetched but does tie in with you signing an Irish player and a Congolese player from us. Fair enough on the wages too, there's no way of knowing that for sure. I hope you Hartlepool fans learn how to spell his name though. So far I've seen Almond, Ammond and now Amnond.

Just me who's thinking that this summer seems to be a lot quieter than last year? Pre-season training starts (for most teams anyway) two weeks today. You would've thought most teams would've wanted their summer trading sorted by now almost.

Well out of our million signings last summer, by this time of the year we had only announced three of them (four if you include McGeehan although he was signed during the second half of the previous season all bar the official confirmation). The last week of June/start of July is usually marked by a flurry of activity (last season we announced six signings between the 22nd June and 9th July plus we found out we had CMS on trial).

Don't think anyone's attempted his Christian name

Rigg is not a striker by the way. He is a winger or plays in the hole. Don't expect him to play up front. He tries hard but his legs/pace has gone.

One of our signings tomorrow is apparently Rhys Browne from Aldershot. Scored against us this season. I'm just pleased we have a player atm.

I suppose we should really give Hartlepool a lot of credit for their forward planning giving our players 2 year contracts, as when they get relegated next season, they'll already have the players who know how to get out of The National League. :bg:

Rumour down here is that we've been unable to agree terms with Ben Davies for next season, and Grimsby are front runners to get him.

He wants improved terms and 2 years, but we're only prepared to give him a year. Grimsby are apparently offering what he wants and his wife is from the area. Tweeted that he's moving house following his return from summer holiday.

Won most of our player of the year trophies last season. Became a firm favourite with his energetic 100% committed displays, but legs started to go towards the end of the season.

I heard yesterday that we were close to signing him, but i would be very surprised if we were to offer a 2 year contract to a 35 year old.

According to Podge we offered him a 2 year extension in Jan which he rejected because he didn't know what league we would be in, then when he wasn't offered 2 years this time he couldn't understand why so left.

It's absolutely shite from us to not offer our best player a 2 year deal, back to penny pinching again.

To be honest I'm surprised Grimsby have let so many go.

The whole 'can they make the step up' - didn't Amond score 30 goals last season? And he was okay at Morecambe beforehand. You only have to see how few get relegated after promotion from the Conference to know its highly likely they would have.

Worry more for Grimsby than the likes of Hartlepool, think Amond is a good signing.

I loved Amond. But the stats show he was a bit of flat track bully. He is replaceable but guaranteed goal scorers don't come about easy. Hopefully, Bogle becomes the player we all thought he would.

As others have said, we definitely needed new blood; finished 4th in a poor league and scraped through the playoffs. We're basically trying to replace 6 of the airwaves players and both fullbacks. Fullbacks are down and if the rumours of Vose and Browne are true, we could have wingers too. There's rumours that we may be going 4-3-3 this year as opposed to last year's 4-4-2. Perhaps Amond wasn't seen as right to play in a three?

Fwiw, I would've liked Tait and Nolan to stay, but you can't argue when Nolan goes up a league and Tait is moving back home, possibly in the SPL.

Amond has said in his interview that when he was only offered 1 year he got the gist it was because of playing new systems in League 2 and he would be getting less game time so that seems to figure true, also maybe Hurst secretly didn't want him to sign it it would seem going off that.
