Our local rag reckon we're getting Tony Andreu on loan from Norwich. Attacking mid with 13 goals in the Scottish Championship last season.

Charlie it looks like permanent signing on two year deal, if so that's a cracking signing.

I watch it when its on and its league two level with the higher league teams, so 19 goals in 43 games from midfield is just what we want .
Scottish Prem is low Championship at best but mostly league one level

Its difficult to make generalisations like that - Andrew Shinnie was in the Scottish Championship last season and looks a cut above anything we had playing a similar position last season so far, on the other hand you have Stephen O'donnell who was playing in the SPL, came to us and looked very much out of his depth but has gone back to an SPL club.

Only had a year at Hibs and their fans don't seem to rate him very highly, albeit they think he wasn't given much of a chance. I suspect he'll be battling Danny Wright for the starting target man role alongside Mo Eisa.

Heard from a reliable source that Mansfield have bid £200k for Jon Stead. I would be gutted to lose our talisman at this stage of the season - best striker I've seen at Notts since Tommy Lawton. He's tall, can run moderately well and will often get his shot on target if you give him enough space - a complete player, like Ibrahimovic with arthritis.

Motherwell' squad has a high proportion of ex-League 2 and National League players as do a majority of SPL clubs. The majority of the SPL is League 2 standard. There is no way that the Scottish Championship is any higher than National League level especially as the likes of Dumbarton and Brechin City are part-time.

Heard from a reliable source that Mansfield have bid £200k for Jon Stead. I would be gutted to lose our talisman at this stage of the season - best striker I've seen at Notts since Tommy Lawton. Hard to believe that that is true really. For it to be true we must have been paying Mackail Smith an absolute fortune, which isn't actually that ridiculous when you come to think of it!

The others that have left may well have been on a fair old wedge but we've brought in a few that you would think will be too, Collins for instance.

It doesn't exactly shock me, I never thought we were looking at a big wage increase this summer as we shifted a lot of high earners and reduced squad size.

CMS, Green and McGeehan would have been huge earners for the level. Also I think Marriott would have been on a big wage, not when we first signed him, but he signed a new contract last summer when there was strong interest from Championship clubs and his star was very high (in fact I think Darragh MacAntony, bastion of truth, claimed that Marriott took a pay-cut when signing for Peterborough this summer). O'Donnell would probably have been on a significant wage too, had a great season before he came here and was linked with clubs higher up. Smudger signed a new deal when he was on the way to winning our player of the season in League Two so probably a hefty pay rise from his initial contract etc.

Of the ones who have come in, you'd say that Collins, McCormack and Stech will be top earners at this level for sure, but maybe none of them commanding as much as CMS did? Hard to guess. Shinnie would be a top earner too but he's only a loan, we'd have no reason to do that unless Birmingham were paying a good chunk of his wages still. Lee, Cornick, Stacey and Shea won't be cheap, but I also doubt they are on huge wages, the first three are young and haven't exactly achieved much yet (would Cornick or Stacey be paid more than Jake Gray was for instance? Similar points in their careers), whilst Shea was brought in with the explicit understanding from both parties that he would be back-up to Stech.

Then again that doesn't take in to account things like JJ and Pelly contract extensions, which presumably (especially in the former's case) included solid pay increases. I'd love to see the accounts.

EDIT - just read the article in question and it's worth pointing out that Sweet would have written it before we signed Cornick, so he doesn't count towards the calculation.

Hull linked with Nathan Smith which would be a blow but if we get the money back into the budget may go somewhere to softening it!

I would be disappointed if we didn't get at least £1 Million for him to be honest so see how this one develops.

I would be more interested in seeing the accounts of other clubs who generate a lot less income but still manage to compete well in the transfer market. The "Financial Fair Play" regulations don't seem to be having the desired affect.

Well we're not chartering own our plane for our pre season training camp. I'm guessing that will answer the last point.

He knows what's he has spent. You don't get to be a millionaire from nothing by not being aware of your finances. He was avoiding the question. Firstly he does not want to publicise the investment and secondly a she explained, he sees the football club as part of the bigger business and therefore some costs are combined and not directly accountable to the club alone.
