Aston Villa have won the European Cup, and are a big historic club with a huge fanbase. Why do they not deserve to be part of this, but teams like Man City, Spurs and Arsenal; who have never won the the competition in their entire history deserve to be in it.
Because dollar.

Ah right, didn't know that about Leipzig. Seems odd praising them and PSG, but fair play to all clubs that have rejected it. Any kind of faction in the ranks puts a huge spanner in the works, keeping FIFA, UEFA and the domestic governing bodies on the same side is surely key to stopping this.
The PSG owner is balls deeps in UEFA.

Red Bull probably cared about the PR. They are already detested in Germany.

Sauce?

They’re running out of clubs with the European standing to ask aren’t they? I guess they’ll turn to Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord since France, Germany and Portugal aren’t playing ball.

How long before the owner of one of the teams decides to move them somewhere else, as happens in the franchised World of North American sport, just to be nearer a larger fanbase. Man Utd could be vulnerable, very few of their fans live anywhere near the North West, they could probably sell out a 100k stadium week in week out in somewhere like Malaysia or Thailand.

I think you’ll see games abroad, the whole “39th game” debate will come up again and clubs will accept playing in the likes of Saudi Arabia, China, India, America etc. The only thing that stopped them before was FIFA and co effectively ruling it out.

It’s so unbelievably far from where we are as League 2 clubs. They can go, they’re not in our sport anymore.

Find it cute that people think this 12 team Super League will be restricted to just 7 cities. How can Americans maximise revenues with 2 teams in a small market like Manchester or 3 teams in London?

It'll expand over the next generation and whilst London will always have a team, the days of Manchester and Liverpool on the footballing World stage are numbered if this goes ahead, with more lucrative cities around the World being preferred instead.

Instead of Turin, Manchester, Liverpool and multiple Madrid, Milan and London teams, you'll have Moscow, Istanbul, New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Johannesburg, Dubai, Mumbai, Sydney, Shanghai and Tokyo queuing up for a franchise.

Exactly it's all about the money and not the fans, it won't be long before it's a world super League and the clubs won't be playing in any other competitions, and each will just be a franchise to sell on to the next highest bidder

Another thing worth noting is it'll be suicide for the players if they agree to this.

Players have a lot of power in the game right now, as do agents, and owners don't like this one bit.

So if the owners take charge of the league, they can set a wage cap across the board and stagnate player revenues whilst making themselves richer. It's the American closed-shop way.

Any player in support of this idea is about to get a nasty shock a few years down the line...

This might sound a bit bizarre, but maybe we are about to see football split in the way rugby did all those years ago into league and union...I don't mean having different rules and numbers of players but you have one code that is very much the working man's (or women's) game and another that really isn't. There is minimal overlap between the two games, few players ever cross over between them...and as for the fans, they have as much disdain for each other as many union fans have for football.

(Caveat: I can speak from experience here, being a football fan who lives in an area that classes itself as rugby...I am tired of being viewed as similar to something that gets on the bottom of your shoe, when someone hasn't cleaned up after their dog, when you mention that you follow football and not rugby).

Unexpected consequences. This is the first time that I have actually agreed with Boris Johnson!

I’d be very interested in a Salford fan’s take of Gary Neville’s outburst on Sky. Hard to disagree with what he said, but...

Our gift to the footballing world in these testing times: The opportunity to get your hands on an XXXL hideous salmon shirt that we can't shift even despite reducing them to £20 a pop.

To be honest any owner of a Liverpool or Man Utd shirt deserves it.

Why are Spurs in it? - apart from one final 2 years ago have they done anything in Europe of note and they haven't even won a trophy since 2008 and haven't got to an FA Cup final since 1991?

And as for their league record - well football probably still had long shorts and heavy balls with coverage in black and white the last time they won that!

Read somewhere else that they need 3/4 of the twenty prem teams to vote to kick these fuckers out so theory is Spurs are in there to stop that majority being possible :D

Well said Bolton. Bravo :bravo:Proper club an all.

Let's all forget about that hilarious closed PL proposal now eh
That was mooted by a employee of Bolton
It was over ruled by the clubs then owner

As a founding member of the football league and a team who enlisted en masse for the second world war as one

Yes we are a proper football team

Good! If they end up having the gonads to do it which remains to be seen.

Fuck that, either reinstate the 3 losing quarter finalists that aren't involved with this, or finish this seasons competition and then ban all those breakaway clubs from next years Prem and CL. Handing the CL to a club without semis or a final is shit. Might as well award the Prem and FA Cup to Leicester or West Ham.

Hence the branding "The Super League" - no mention of Europe. New York Red Devils and Atletico Shanghai are being trademarked as we speak.
