I think this is a great time to reset all the leagues
1 point awarded for every season spent in the top league...Old First div
2 points awarded for each season in the Premier League
3 points for each time you have won promotion
4 points for every league title you have won
5 points if you have played in a European competition
6 points for Each Fa cup win
7 points for every ground with a capacity over 25k

Seems only fair

Bolton would be back in the top division with about 150 points
Bradford Championship about 80 points
Oldham lge 1 40 points
Tranmere lge 2 20 points
Barrow National league 10 points

Kick the likes of Salford FGR and Newport out
Reinstate Notts County

Sounds like a plan !!

If there was a league for bullshit merchants he would be in a world of his own.

Liverpool would be one of them I think (AFC Everton).

And Woolwich Arsenal. Around the time that they moved north of the river, Clapton Orient were establishing themselves as one of the best sides in London. Those tossers arriving on our manor is essentially what forced us to move to Leyton (ourselves screwing the amateur side Leyton FC [RIP] out of their ground in the process).

This is a consequence of ceding power over a long period of time. FIFA, UEFA, FA, PL whoever, will have had ample opportunities down the years to prevent Club's from being as powerful as they are but time and time again they've compromised.

It was only a matter of time before owners opted for a more American, closed-shop style of football system. Big Clubs, or rather their owners, don't like competition, they don't like the unpredictability of sport, they like control. The Glazer's have come in, used United's own money to buy the Club, and take £m's out a year and invest little (relative to United's money making machine) but Henry and Liverpool came in all nicey nicey yet he's shown his true colours over the last year with PBP and now this.

Of course it's driven by money, we know that. These PL Club's think that they can bank an extra few hundred million and then bring that advantage into the PL, skewing it more than it is as it stands. Juventus don't have a pot to piss in now (Serie A being a league not in the best shape either). Barca have a near £1bn debt and the way Madrid are run has been biting them on their arse for the last two or three years. The Spanish and Italian sides need the PL 6 with them, because they're the ones who'll bring the money. Fair play to Spurs for managing to bag a place at the top table as well. Crikey, there's hope for us all there.

There needs to be no compromise when this is tackled head on. They've had compromises for years. Give 'em an inch...

It's a sorry state when the Club owners think they're more powerful than their domestic, european and world governing bodies and can create their own competition.

They'll never be a better opportunity for FIFA, UEFA, FA, PL etc to come down firm and hard on these lot. No more ceding power, no more compromises. They need putting back in their boxes and the American owners need to stop trying to turn this into an American type set-up. Allegri and Perez will take more money however it comes, they don't care about the set-up.

It'll also be interesting to see whether a player breaks ranks. I know Milner did last night to an extent, but if one of the big hitters does, I think more will follow and it'll snowball.

great post luke i agree with every word.

it feels like we're at an inevitable cross roads. this day was always coming but we didn't think it would be here so soon.

the choices are to concede further power to the top clubs and further break football. Or, we fight to save the game. every fan of english football knows ultimately that this is how the system became broken. some might have ignored it whilst their teams racked up points and titles but they can't have been happy when chelsea came to the party, or man city and they're obviously shit scared of someone else coming now.

i think they can be defeated. they don't understand what makes football so incredible and they don't understand the reasons that the clubs they control are so revered across the world. its the fans. no other sport has fans like football and if you continue to dilute that it will become less interesting very quickly.

they're monetising not only the history of the clubs but the passion of the fans. they don't own either and have no right to cash in on it like this.

i think we fuck these clubs off with immediate effect, get them gone from every single domestic competition, if we can't do it then lets form our own fucking league and do it properly. Not for the benefit of the new 'big' clubs, but for the pyramid itself. if we can defeat these bastards then we win forever. if they want to come back then they come back on our terms, they can start in tier 10 and learn the true value of the pyramid as they work their way back up.

failing that, i think non league football will be booming in 10 years time when the hundreds of thousands of disillusioned football fans try to rediscover what is so special about the game.

we should negotiate with them, but we should negotiate for our game back. They should be made to consider what they can give us, not the other way around.

They won’t fuck those clubs off, because they’ll lose money doing it. 12 of the14 other Prem clubs are majority owned by foreign owners (mainly Chinese and American) who won’t care about the history/tradition or ‘legacy’ fans as much as they will care about the hit to the EPL ‘brand’ without those clubs. And the two clubs owned by English owners are West Ham (Gold and Sullivan) and Newcastle (Mike Ashley) who are some of the biggest money grabbers going. No chance will any of them do anything other then posture, and most would jump at the chance to join this Super League if they could.

im not sure they can afford not to though.

the choice they're giving us is to either concede power permanently to these 6 clubs in england or else.

it can't be considered, you can't allow 6 clubs to enshrine permanent wealth and power and still have a competition with integrity.

there's never been a better chance to wrestle back power. i think in either option, the rest of football in this country is about to take a massive financial hit. we might as well take the opportunity to clear the rot.

the only other way out of this is for them to shelve their plans, which im not sure they will do now.

This feels more like a “war” than a “skirmish”, as a consequence the campaign against the 12 will only be won if they take the gloves off, which I doubt FIFA and EUFA will do. I liked Alan Shearer’s line that the 12 threw a couple of hand grenades so let’s throw a few back now.

I do not have much confidence in EUFA or FIFA, and personally it seems to me that this may come down to what the UK (and other) Government can and will do. There are certainly tax things they can do, and the Competition and Markets Agency has already said they are looking into this. I suspect civil servants will be looking at what Statutory Instruments (I.e. powers relevant Secretary’s of State have from existing legislation) they might be able to use. Creating primary legislation (Act of Parliament) will take time and is it notoriously difficult to prescribe the behaviour of individual organisations.

I’m sure the majority of fans and EFL owners throughout the leagues will agree with kicking them out, but the only people that can are the stakeholders in the Premier League and I can’t see them doing it, you instantly smash the value of the league to pieces.

Sounds great to us, but tv/streaming platforms won’t pay top dollar for a league without the big 6. The 14 other clubs have committed to some big contracts or even building new stadiums based on a lucrative financial model that will disappear virtually overnight.

The only positive is this has united football fans, 99% of clubs, governments and the organisations such as FIFA, EFL, UEFA so hopefully finally this is the straw that breaks the camels back and we see the change thats been long over due in the way football is run and financed.

Agree 100 per cent. Hence why I suggest BoJo may rather improbably be a saviour.

if the 12 back down or are forced down the negotiated deal will leave them with more money and not less. I am not convinced that the changes you and I would probably want are any closer, rather further away.

You always talk bollocks so its it is extremely difficult to tell.
I have finally got to the stage where I was tired of having to wade through piles of their $#!?£ and put them on ignore, only the second time I have done that on this forum, I can't even see what they have posted if someone else quotes them...happy days!

I might review the situation and unblock, if they grow up and start talking sense.

Sorry to butcher your post but just wanted to highlight part of it and comment.

I have never been impressed with UEFA, believing that they have always put money over principle, their stand against racism has been at best lukewarm. A few years ago Arsenal players were racially abused during a game against PSV Eindhoven...what was the punishment PSV received, it was a fine of around £3k and a warning to control their fans in future. If PSV had been booted out of the competition and banned for a number of seasons it would have sent out a strong message, racism is not and will never be tolerated. UEFA - Fail

Don't get me started on FIFA, it is hard to think of an organisation that has been more corrupt in recent years...not just the time when Septic Bladder was running the show and siphoning money off for his retirement pot (allegedly, cough, cough...bollocks!).

The players issue is an interesting one, and for me key. If a stand is made and players from the break away clubs are banned from international football it could go one of two ways. Either players put principle over money and sign for clubs who are not in the European Super League, so they can represent their country, or just take the money and don't play at international level. That is a hard choice, the career of a footballer is relatively short and some may regard safeguarding their future as most important, rather than representing their country. If enough players take a stand it could seriously undermine the ESL if the clubs are unable to secure the services of the World's best players. The ESL could end up with what is regarded as an inferior product, which could seriously undermine the teams that play in it.

However, this is all about money at the end of the day...I'm not overly hopeful of a good ending.

I'd much rather support my home town club than passionless plastic teams... relegate all 6 of them to NLN/NLS, save Grimsby and Southend and bring in an extra 4 from the National league.

I seem to remember a few years ago, I think in Scotland, the clubs there had prepared letters of resignation from Scottish League if too much power was awarded to Celtic and Rangers.
Apparently it would take a 3/4 majority in Premiership to evict the errant six, which could not be mathematically achieved.
I wonder therefore if the threat of resignation of 14 clubs from Premiership will make everybody look closely at the full implications of what the SIX propose.

that's where im at too. a meet in the middle compromise will just mean we have this fight in 5-10 years time rather than now.

the super league is what they're doing when they think they have enough power to dictate global football. what will stop them if we give them even more money and even more power to dictate to the rest of us.

If 3 of those 4 include Notts, Halifax and Chesterfield and neither Bolton, Tranmere or Exeter go up, this forum will certainly have a lot of ‘characters’ next season...
