Atmosphere on Easter Monday is going to be something else isn't it? It'll be surreal to see every stand in the ground, including the away end, applauding and belting out DC's name in unison.

Welcome back, gaffer!

Bit weird for a club to post something like that on their own website.
True, perhaps hoping that he'll appreciate the openness. Not sure how we can afford to offer him a decent deal given we have the sixth lowest budget and have sacked two managers this season. Part of it is probably that he's accepted a really basic salary to come and save us, and then there's the direction the club is headed

I don’t think it’s anything to do with money for Simpson. We could offer him the best salary in League 2 but if the lack of drive and ambition at the top still exists, he won’t stay. That’s how I see it.

The corpses that own our club will continue to make cuts, thinking short term to save a few quid and will then act surprised when things turn shit on the pitch again. The 3 corpses never learn from their mistakes and we will continue to go round in circles under their ownership until the inevitable relegation finally happens.

Simpson has probably saved us this season and we’re all grateful for that, but he won’t want to be involved in anything unless he can see a pathway of progression for the club. Therefore he is leaving and we’ll be back to square one again.

If we stay up perhaps we should offer Simpson the Barrow job - obviously we're a more ambitious club :gr: and as Carlisle are the worst team in the history of the EFL we'd be a step up for him..... :fish:

It's only a matter of weeks until he's spotted in the bread aisle at Asda.

Played it well did old Simmo, few weeks ago he was threatening to pack his bags at the end of the season, forcing the Carlisle board to come back in with a three year lumper for him, absolutely finessed them there.

It’s always nice to see a club give a manager a long contract. It will be exciting to see how he does in the National League when your inevitable relegation next season is confirmed by about Christmas.

Fair play.
Been there and done it. He got us out of the national league at the first attempt last time round.

Apart from West Cumbria, where the Wukkies bottled the title against a team with 7 points and a -92 goal difference, then conceded a last minute equaliser in the playoff semi and lost in extra time.

Simpson will have only signed that with guarantee of a competitive budget.

Am trying to remember when he won that World Cup thingy, it should give him some good contacts.

To be fair Simpson always had a good eye for a decent player just tactics were not always the strong point so was surprised he could turn this about with a bad team low on confidence and using change of tactics to work it all.

Still I like a manager usually going into the summer….they should know what they want to keep and remove and what is needed.

Just surprised he didn’t go with DOF with Murphy as manager.

To be fair to him though that that time was his first managerial position besides a brief caretaker player manager spell at Rochdale.

I wonder where we're getting the money from to sack two managers offer a third a three year contract with as you say, assurances of a decent player budget.

So are Carlisle favourites for promotion next season or dead certs for relegation?

We won’t be anywhere near the promotion race. Simpson has said so already, the club and team is in too much of a state. It’s a complete rebuild job. Mid table would be a good season then hopefully build from there.

Suppose it can go in here now they’ve been long since relegated but Crewe have promoted their assistant to being the permanent replacement to Artell. Not really the sweeping change they need and smacks of the cheap option (but expected) I suspect and will be a difficult job for them to avoid being sucked into a dogfight to stay up.

I’m not convinced they’ve massively increased the budget. I don’t think that’s what it’s about for Simpson. He just wanted a plan in place to move the club forward on and off the pitch, a proper recruitment structure etc.
He makes it clear that there’ll have to be some short term pain for long term gain and success won’t come over night. That’s why he’s got 3 years, because next season is about steadying the ship and putting some foundations in place for something more long term than the recent rebuild every summer blueprint.

I think it depends on what we can add to how we do, but one thing they start next August with is momentum which can have a big positive, Swindon a good example of a club a mess but got some positive vibes heading into season and ran with it.

In Patrick they have the elusive 20 goal forward most clubs crave, I think Dennis could also grab 15-20 goals if he could get a good midfield behind him, think he lacks of legs to do it himself like Patrick but he has the skill……..the forward set up is fine.

Goalie is solid enough, then comes the problems, spine of side in defence and midfield is shocking, they lack leaders, make many basic mistakes here, some creativity but unable to control these areas.

Hopefully this where Simpson will work on, if he gets it right then add the firepower and energy about the club it may help them push top 7

Strongly suspect it's a rumour launched as a piss-take after one of our youth team who seems to have been released - surprisingly, but who know what the full picture is? - was reported to be trialling with QPR.

We've binned off Graeme Lee, rather weirdly.
Weird one with one game left of the season.

Genuinely feel sorry for the bloke as he seems a nice guy, but honestly football has been horrid to watch recently.
