Justin Edinburgh managed Newport to promotion.
Flynn's credit is for the 'great escape'

Always insisted since Flynn left Newport I reckon he’s one of those that will only do well with them at this level. The one thing he does deserve credit for is getting them promoted.

I imagine that’s him done in the EFL unless he goes back to Wales eventually.
He got them in the play offs he's never won a promotion in his career has he?

Yeah you are right, thinking about something else. They beat us in the semi-finals via penos, lost to Tranmere in the final I think.

Bonner could be a shout for someone at this level.

I personally would love Warnock. Who needs a strategy anyway

Throw the tiki taka out the window for some old fashioned shit housery.

Would either go really well or very bad.

I agree it’s hard to find a bad job he’s done, but the way County play and it being L2 goes against him.

My greatest memories and my greatest seasons as a Notts fan, by far obviously. What he did was unbelievable and as mentioned he repeated promotions with so many other but probably none as impressive as back to back to the top flight and FA Cup QF.

But I wouldn't want him, not even for an agreed short term deal only till end of season. He's almost the polar opposite of Williams. He may win us plenty of games, the goals we will concede will dry up considerably but during that time he will undue so much. We can't have that.

The next guy comes in will be the complete opposite too. So too much confusion and contradiction and will take a while to revert back to type.

Plus I don't think some of our lot could play (well) for Warnock. He's got some great stories from his days at Notts, Plymouth, Sheff United etc. The infamous Blades footage of him at Millwall away is as good as it comes.

It’s basically come about because the guy who hosts a Notts podcast and used to work in football so is pretty well connected said that Warnock is interested in it until the end of the season. I can’t see it being something the club would consider.

That said, if there’s no one we really want out there, it must be tempting. McGoldrick and Langstaff front two with Jones and Crowley wide, everyone else camped behind the ball. The short corners would probably have to come to an end.

I can't see it jokes aside. Not the owners style

I do think he'd sort our defence though

Warnock would be a great appointment for anyone at this level I would imagine even at his age.

If it didn't go well or was even a bit of a dud then it would tarnish his legacy a tad at Meadow Lane. I wouldn't want that risk for half a season. I am happy to remember the 40 year old manager Warnock rather than the 75 year old version.

What an EFL manager, one of the very very best.

I’m stuck between it being a good appointment because I genuinely think Warnock is a really good manager, but also a short term appointment like that goes against what Notts have been trying to do recently and the massive change in style is never a good thing mid-season.

When we went from Evans to Flitcroft we went from a solid shout for top three to finishing 8th in 12 games due to him trying to implement drastic change, managers can only manage in the style that they know.

All hypothetical because it isn’t going to happen, but I think Warnock gets a bit of an unfair rep on the style of football. He’ll play whatever gets the best out of his set of players at the time - remember his QPR team built around Taarabt playing some lovely stuff. Since then he’s mostly done desperate relegation battles which are always gonna be more attritional.

To be honest I think there’s a potentially successful season here for someone who can just come in and do the obvious - keep what’s good about us (the creativity in attacking mid, Langstaff’s goals, the wing backs) but rein it in a bit. Genuinely reckon we could be about fifteen points better off with some very basic changes (not always playing five forwards from the start away from home, keeping one or two midfielders behind the ball to protect the back three rather than zero, making the odd defensive sub when we’re ahead).

Might not be their style long-term but short-term they'd be mad to turn him down. Shore up the defence, have a strong chance of being one of the four that go up, even if not you'd end up with a very well organised and motivated squad. And they'd have months to identify the right man to take over in the summer. I don't see any downsides

I'm not sure Warnock would be any good in the 4th Div -- His specialist area is the Championship.

It's all hypothetical, because of course Neil would want to manage Notts again but doubt the owners want him unless our target is only available come end of season. Yes he's a championship specialist but if he did join it's on a short term deal he doesn't need to know or specialise in the 4th Div. I don't really want a manager who does tbh.

If we need a stop gap and suits us, get him in, otherwise it's just a former great who is 75 years old now who is interested and no more.

The idea of Warnock is slooooowly growing on me. Jacob’s right, he has got a bit of an unfair rep as being an exclusively long ball merchant. Some of the football even his last Notts team played was really good, it was just in the opposition half. It would still be a hard thing to reconcile with the ‘philosophy’ of the last 4 years.

The whole club feels in a bit of delicate position. Head coach just left, leaking goals left right and centre, transfer talk about our best players, 3 games against top of the league or near it. Someone like Warnock would give us all a bit of inspiration until the end of the season, more perhaps than Jon Vaal Danishman or whoever else might be on the list.

I'd hope that even Notts fans can have a bit of perspective should we not get results over the next month and/or we sell Langstaff for 7 figures. Not confident though...

I find it hard to believe that there's going to be someone available in 6 months, who isn't available now and fits the Burchnall/Williams mould, but maybe we're after something different this time. Even then I expect the owners would only be interested in someone who came in to match what they and the eventual new head coach wants to do.

Agree 100%

A good section of the fanbase won't have that vision, patience and stand back and look approach. But tbh that's usually a certain demographic or lovers of gerritt forward at almost every opportunity
