Hmmmm lets think maybe 600 plus appearances ..England international from u16 to full international
Played all along the back 4 and midfield.......Never been controversial, comes across as articulate.......
Will have done all is badges.
Rather take a chance on him than someone who been sacked by 10 other clubs

Exactly. A bunch of England caps or coming across as intelligent is no guarantee of being able to manage a football team.

Also Graham Alexander, who was sacked by Salford a few weeks ago iirc.

If you are looking for non-league managers Dave Challinor from Hartlepool or Gary Johnson from Torquay are decent choices.

Good shout. Gary Johnson’s record as a manager is mostly phenomenal. Tranmere lad Dave “the Exocet” Challinor would have to bring his own towel with him if he was ever to be offered the Rovers job though.

Alexander is an obvious one but would it change anything? He has had a bigger budget at Salford and was meh last season.

Honestly he’s not my favourite but he’s a decent manager, GC turned Bristol Rovers around from 18th to 4th when he came to Mansfield.

Quite frankly I think the Salford job isn’t what it’s cracked up to be either.

Who next in the hot seat at Tranmere then? Don’t think we’ll be chasing anybody else’s manager because I can’t see us paying the compo.

Clough is a big favourite for Mansfield at the minute.

Doubt any decision is made untill next week though.

Paul Cook would be ideal but can’t see it. Adkins is out of a job!

If we get Clough we'll probably sack him after 6 months.

Just an observation, but it looks like everything’s gone a bit Pete Tong since you scabs went Tory in 2017.

John McGreal for Tranmere? Was speculation before Jackson was appointed and he still seems to be out of work.

Local journos have suggested we are interested in Paul Cook.

Whether he is interested in us is another question I suppose.

Hey, not everyone from Mansfield is like that. I bleed red. Red. Let me tell you, Thatcher was the worst thing to ever happen to me and I wasn't even born. My family still haven't surrendered.

He managed us last season.

He took a while to get going but I liked him and wish he never left. He seemed to leave because he fell out with our chairman who wanted to sell one of our best players. Hurst seemed to be slowly getting it right when he left which was annoying.

He plays 4-4-2 and it's very average, not very attacking or defending really pretty balanced.

Hurst now backed in to favourite, same thing happened to Clough yesterday. I imagine both have applied.

Fans don’t seem keen on Hurst, but unless you appoint Carlton Palmer you never know how it will turn out.

We have spoken to Simon Grayson apparently. Not sure about him, based on his recent record.

Graham Alexander is another that has been linked. Despite his recent and probably harsh sacking, his overall record is excellent.

Are you prepared to give Alexander a massive budget? If not he will be awful.

He failed here despite our largest ever budget being given to him, the fact we didn't go up to the Championship that season was criminal.

I think Salford realised that, he couldn't get it done despite having a huge budget.

When Simon Grayson was appointed by Bradford City a couple of years ago, we were still in league 1, he actually said in press conference that we were lucky to be getting a Championship manager, I cannot imagine his over inflated ego would allow him to manage in league 2.

He would inherit a decent playing squad here, but there would not be much room for manoeuvre in terms of new signings.

That’s pretty much the same for any club due to the cap.
