Pearce was immense. Asamoah would have Pearce on toast for pace but he never got the chance because Pearce always got his body in the way and his timing of the tackle was spot on all afternoon. Derek never got the chance to run away from him. Had a bit of joy against the others at times, but never Pearce.

Can't believe what I'm reading here. Carlisle hoof United? We were overplaying it at times from the back, we nearly gifted you 2 goals in the first half from trying to play out from the back instead of clearing it when we should have. We shaded possession today, yet apparently we hoofed it all afternoon against the all passing tiki taka Mansfield?
Yeah right! Your tactics for the first 20 minutes were actually the long ball over the top to try and turn our defence, plenty of them over hit but a couple nearly came off.

Dominated the first half? Fuck right off, it was even from start to finish, a draw was totally a fair result. I was planning on coming on here to praise your centre backs. I'll still do that, because they are decent and strong especially Pearce, he looks like he'll be a great signing for you. But you are a deluded bunch if you think you dominated. Both teams deserved a point, nothing more nothing less.

Pfft, You rolled it out from the back but never tried to play it forward on the ground, passed it between defenders when we were sitting off giving you all the time in the world then hoofed it aimlessly, simple as. Difference is we played balls into the channels and almost always found a man, some cracking balls from hunt and benning finding player in space. Our back four picked off all your long balls all day, the goal was a mistake by taff who isn't used to playing with pearce, had collins been at the back we would have kept a clean sheet.

First half was even, didnt think we deserved the lead, we sat off far too much for a home game and allowed you to play at times,But You never took the game and was in control of it and never looked really looked a threat going forward. Our midfield three didnt play well together and didnt run the show think they were in each others way and didnt create space like they have done, a few misplaced passes and individual mistakes stopped them getting into gear and finding any rhythm. If we had two upfront from the off and the sharpness of the last 15 when we did easily dominate, we would of won by 3 or 4. Green was all over Raynes and its a shame he was so isolated through out the game

Both teams will be fine but i don't think Carlisle are any better than last year. We are a team with potential to be a surprise team, if not mid table at best.

You're talking shite mate.

Have you ever stopped to consider that these delusions that you have about your team aren't real?

I thought carlisle played some good passing moves tbh, their midfield was alright and better than what I saw.

I guess Id say we were probably slightly the better side but not by much - we played too many long balls ourself in the 2nd half relying too much on green

The only one that he looked a bit uncomfortable on was a long throw I'm the second half, which he punched for a corner.

Other than that he handled well and collected a few over the top balls very well. Always talking to the defence as well.

I don't have low standards, I just know what I'm talking about.

Fair, you must just be thinking of a different match that's all - the defence was shaky with him and there were numerous occasions when they didn't know when to leave it or clear it - hopefully he'll get better as the season goes on

Dropped in to check on my 3rd team. I think I'll try to avoid Stags match threads again this season.

Do I have to buy the Football League Paper to find out whether the Cumbrians' defence is up to coping with the Corrminator? and do we need to play a proper right back next Saturday?

I'm not sure to be honest, our defence does lack height and physicality. I wouldn't be surprised if we put Archibald-Henville in the team that day just to nullify Corr.

Bastien Hery, signed him from Rochdale on a free this summer.
Sounds promising.

Bastien Hery was decent & showed good ability and passing, but for all his possession of the ball in midfield, he needs to be more productive with it imo.

He was the lad who certainly ran the show for carlisle, which is why I was surprised at the long ball comment.

First games often dont reflect the season so after 3 consecutive opening day losses it was nice to get on the board.

Green looked class for us, though too often stranded alone, or aided by an ineffective lambe

Tough first game IMO. A lot of work left but we will be fine this season. Mansfield fans are already having a meltdown on stagsnet I see

Having seen the highlights, Rose was very lucky that he wasn't sent off.

I thought it at the time but gave the ref the benefit of the doubt as it was at the other end of the pitch, but having seen it again, that is as clear a red card as you'll see.

Really? I haven't seen the replay but it happened right in front of us. The Carlisle players were certainly trying to get him a red card but "as clear a red card as you'll see"? Certainly not.

Rose had a foul against him after a cracking tackle that won the ball. The Carlisle lad went down like John Holmes on overtime.

Regarding the game, both sides look a distinct improvement on last season but I agree that both look a couple of players short of making any impression on the top 7.

The game was about as even Stevens as you'd get and both will be happy with a point. So many opening day fixtures end in draws, with teams feeling their way in to the campaign. Carlisle seem the sort of side that will build and get better.
Us?... I just worry about our low on numbers squad, particularly at the back, where we are already down to the bones.

Rose was a red card - he put his hands in the lads face and pushe him to the ground. It was pretty obvious.

The ref wasn't the most ept guy around

Grainger went down like he'd been shot, no denying that, but the lad raised his hands aggressively towards an opponents face and made contact. That's a red card.
It was so late on that it wouldn't have affected the outcome, so no harm done but he needs to stop being so stupid in future.

Was a cracking tackle but he was a lucky boy after his reaction not to be sent off. I like him he's like Jamie McGuire but he can actually play football.

Draw was definitely a fair result I think although I did think either side was going to nick it late on. Carlisles red haired player was good and I thought their number 7 had a good game too, think it was Jason Kennedy.

For us Jack Thomas has got to be starting, whether he's 19 or not he's more than ready as he showed last season, he's the best midfielder at the club. To bring him on after 88 minutes was a poor decision by Murray, even with just 5 minutes on the pitch he beat a few Carlisle players and won a corner, it's exactly what we need. Their defenders really didn't like Matt Green either, he was isolated but his hold up play and off the ball action was too much for Carlisle at times.

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
A draw is a good solid start, I think next week is sort've the type of game will define how our season goes as I feel home form will be vital for us this season especially a morale boosting home win early on.

Sounded like we did just enough, probably 2 sides abit nervous at starting off badly as both want a positive start after a miserable campaign last season so I think both will be happy enough to get that first point on board.

good luck Mansfield anyway, hope it goes well for Murray.

Not sure how Rose escaped with only a yellow. Glad he did mind, He looks a good player to have in the midfield and the kind we'll need next week away at County.
