I asked this on the other thread but reading it back it sounds like trolling. But I am genuinely interested.

Not knowing too much about Cooper what's the deal with him? His record is patchy. ....I understand he's an ex player ad a bit of an FGR legend. You all seem very pleased. Good appointment you reckon?

Very good.

Swindon's 14/15 budget, according to Lee Power, was less then 2m.

For Cooper to get them to the league 1 play off final whilst playing great football was a real achievement. He's also won the Trophy at Darlo, the Conf North by a mile with Kettering and had them near the top end of the Conf before leaving, and he also had some great cup runs at Tamworth and Kettering.

His record is a lot more impressive then a lot of managers. And he's a club legend who still loves the club. Which helps.

The style of football in his play-off season with Swindon was just what we'd like. I'll be delighted if he brings that. Definitely had his failures too by looks of it but not well enough up on the details of them.

I hope he's rubbish, or you go up this year, then. A decent manager with your budget is just what the rest of us need.

He has had one or two failures, but when he's been at a stable club especially with a decent budget, he's done well.

Basically, we've just appointed someone who has proven capable of playing great football and has talked about doing the same here (no more Pulis inspired "I love 1-0's" crap), knows the area and club very well, has good contacts and is a fans favourite. It's no wonder a lot of our fans are happy.

Listening to his interview, Coopers signing, which has got to be the world worst kept secret, makes your Chairman a bit hypocritical though doesn't it.
But he certainly appears to be a popular choice

I gather Notts County have confirmed no permission was sought to speak to their manager but he had nevertheless received an offer from another club. :£:£:£:£

Isn't Cooper's record at Swindon slightly in that Power was signing the players, most of which were loan signings from Prem Clubs using his contacts (Tim Sherwood being one)?

Apparrently he had a release/ trigger clause, if they got a certain number of points he would stay on. They didnt.

Im a little more wary of his appointment, merely being a legend and knowing the area isnt good enough, nor is playing exciting football if you are letting in more than you score. It all can work both ways, sometimes putting needless pressure on. You end up with either stupendous success or desperate dive- clubs are littered with these sort of appointments, many work but as many do not, then the legend is tarnished.

Rumours of Hurst is being looked at by Notts County. As a manager no, but maybe as asst he could do well. Our previous but one asst manager Dave Kevan went there as well last season.

According to Notts, he met the target but decided to leave, having received an offer while under contract.

Notts County have been a bit of a joke since the Sven affair and those shady owners, he's probably looking forward to some normality at FGR.

Wouldn't judge Cooper on his time at Town. He reportedly had very little to do, with Chairman Lee Power accountable for signings and the style of play and Luke Williams in charge of coaching and implementing the aforementioned style.

It was increasingly hard to like the man, however - he was defensive and brash in interviews and was ultimately a victim of the way things are run at Town these days.

He had Yaser Kasim at Swindon so was always going to do well there.

He's had more than his fair share of weird short term jobs over the past few years, since leaving Darlo. I'd be a bit concerned about that if I were a Forest Green fan. His Darlo team that won the FA Trophy were very good, but then it went tits up the next season. His time there is probably the most relevant yardstick, in my opinion.

Has there been any confirmation on whether it will be Cooper or Bartlett in charge on Sunday? I know it was heavily expected to be Bartlett, but haven't seen it for sure anywhere.

Yep, announcement on the official site says Scott will be in charge at Wembley.

Impossible to judge Cooper at all on his time with us. He certainly said the right things and seemed to quickly realise what the problems were, but basically buried his players in the media and, whilst everything he said about them was true, it all smacked of media management and trying to get the fans on side. His attempts at actually solving those problems were far less successful.

Can't blame him for leaving, though - we're being run into the ground at the minute and desperately need a takeover to go through in the next few weeks. The fact that he sees FGR as a more proposition says it all about where we're at.

I suspect that's because we interviewed him when the job was available back in January. I can't see us making an appointment for a while with the ownership still up in the air.

I always think of Cooper as being dodgy as fuck for some reason. Seems to have had a hundred jobs and the longest he's stayed in one is about 10 minutes.
